14—Hunger pangs

Feeling the comfortable weight of the sword in his hands he was surprised at how it felt like an extension of his hands together with the fact that his body that had never trained in it's life, not even mentioning it was a peasant boy's body just a few minutes ago, it seems like his body isn't that of a peasant weakling.

Practicing some of the stances and attacks he'd learned sending out swift strikes on an imaginary foe Merel noticed his attacks were suprisingly fast for a heavy longsword.

Putting his sword back in its scabbard located at his waist after tiring himself out he was reminded of his limits that the dream space had made him forget.

He took this as an inspiration to write a new rune to solve this problem once and for all.

Calling out the tome and inscriptor he decided to inscribe some of the runes which had begun to form a list in his mind.

After a long time spent grasping the 'meaning' he wrote three new enchantments.

The first being 'calm and collected mind' this was to address his lack of focus when writing runes and perhaps stirred on by the fact that if he continued making use of such runes he would one day be able to write runes on the fly without a lengthy preparation phase.

The second was 'endless stamina', with this he would never tire in any aspect or find lack of breath in his lungs, he could practice his swordsmanship for extended periods of time with this boon.

The third and final enchantment was 'increased strength' this was the easiest of the three to inscribe as it was easy enough imagining an increase in his strength.

Tracing the line with the inscriptor and enchanting himself with the runes he had noticed a change in his psyche, if he were to describe it then it felt like his mind had become less cluttered with useless thoughts bringing it to a calm state, a qualitative change.

He had to test the other two to notice the change but he was sure there was a change as his runes hadn't failed once.

Drawing his sword from his waist he marveled at how easy it was in thanks to his newfound strength.

He spent the next half an hour practicing his sword strikes cutting his practice short when he noticed he felt no fatigue whatsoever.

The chirping of birds outside the cabin signalled the start of the day.

Merel didn't find it relaxing like most others as it simply reminded him of the days he stayed up to study only to hear that knowing he has a test today without sleeping that night.

His thoughts of his past life were interrupted by the sound of his empty stomach groaning.

(Couldn't think of onomatopoeia for that.)

Of course he would be hungry he hadn't eaten a single thing in the time he was here.

Merel put the sword away in the scabbard strapped to his waist before starting on the task of finding food to eat he has to first clear the obstacles he used to barricade the door.

Opening the door after clearing it he walked out into the cold morning air feeling goosebumps begin to pop up on his skin from the cold.

Merel calling on the tome looked at the map for reference on where he could start looking for food.

Looking at some slightly forested hills south of his location he decided he would start there.

He would steer clear of large bodies of water no matter his craving for fresh fish, he feared he would find more than he bargained for.

Walking around the cabin and off in the intended direction he quickly spotted some wild deer grazing on some bushes by a small stream.

He was happy at the fact he found some precious meat so early in his search for food and thankful he had a supply of freshwater so close to his abode.

He didn't think he could catch them as he was now thinking on how he could do it he had a brilliant idea beside making himself fast with runes and going on an endless wild goose chase with his stamina he could instead write a rune to make animals friendly to him.

He called out the tome and inscriptor and closed his eyes easily finding himself in a state of concentration in thanks to his rune altered mind.

Imagining an appropriate image was simple in thanks to the movies he had seen in his past life the memories called on easily with his focused mind.

The image firmly in place he began the inscribing process meeting some resistance along the way but all in all he succeeded.

Enchanting himself with the freshly inscribed rune he felt nothing but he didn't doubt the ability of his runes and began heading towards the group of wild deer.
