A little game and a little grumble

The next round began, we went up to face the new wave. this time though, the enemy count was 100. More enemies ran up to us in the snow, but behind them was an armored truck. On it, a machine gun, manned by a soldier. The truck sped through the snow, its machine gun unleashing rounds into our position. Stephen, who had a long range rifle, fired back, hitting the truck's driver and the gunner. Rounds hit us, our screens turning blood red slowly. Stephen and Lennox's screens faded to black, killed after sustaining too much damage.

Numbers of standing enemies went down rapidly after the gunner and the driver were killed. The wave kept going until the last enemy was killed.

"This next wave is gonna have a tank, i'll try to kill it." Thalia said.

A quick trip back to the ammo table and back up, i was prepared for the next wave. "THE THIRD WAVE" Appeared on our screens.

In the distance, a large silhouette moved towards us slowly. The tank.

"I'll try to kill it quickly." Thalia's character ran forward in front of us, charging straight at the approaching enemy, switching to the rocket. We continued shooting any of the soldiers, some running behind the tank.

Thalia's player fired a rocket at the front of the tank, as the smoke from the explosion cleared, it did no damage. The tank's barrel turned to Thalia and fired. Her screen immediately went black. Thalia groaned in frustration.

"That's what you get for being risky." Lennox joked.

"Shut up. I'm gonna hit the hay for a while." Thalia jumped up from the couch and went to her room. Now, it was just me, Nora, Marcel, Mary, and Alina. We continued on with the round, taking out the last enemies in the open.

"Can anyone buy a launcher?" Marcel asked.

"I can." Mary's player got up from her position and ran away to the bunker.

My ammo depleted faster this time, as i started firing in bursts. From 360, i was down to just 60 left. The tank fired at us, shots nearly hit us as our screens turned red again and large piles of snow were thrown up. Nora and Marcel's screens turned black, leaving us 3 left.

"I got a better launcher. Takes time to lock though." Mary's character gets up from the ladder, now aiming towards the tank. She takes damage, her screen turning redder by the second, after a sound of a click, the missile was fired, the tank fired one more time before it was blown up, going up in flames. The shell hit us directly. Turning all our screens black. "TEAM ELIMINATED" Appeared on the black screens.

"Damnit." Marcel frustratingly got up. "We had that one. But good game guys." Marcel left, heading to his room, presumably to rest.

"Same here, bye team." Lennox joined with Marcel, entering his own room to rest. The group quickly dispersed. Alina though, stayed, reading a book and turning off the tv.

"What are you reading?" I asked.

"More biology stuff." She replied.

"Are you gonna rest like them?"

"I'll just stay here for awhile to read, did you eat already?"

"Yeah, why?" Alina flips a page.

"I'm the team medic, gotta know that my team is in tip top shape, and that includes whether they ate or not."

"So, what did you do before going back here?"

"Went to eat, headed for the library, then the clinic to see if you and the rest were still there."

"Wanted to see if we were ok? That's nice of you." She replied. Laughing.

"How's your wounds by the way?" She asked, still reading her book.

"They're gone now." Alina's face changed to an unsure one.

"For someone that sustained multiple injuries, your body healed quick. Did you even stay in the clinic?"

"No, i just had a few tests ran on me and they let me go."

"Your healing properties are interesting. I still have the sample i took from you a long way back if you remember, studied it ever since. Still a rather interesting thing really." She explained, closing her book.

"I'm gonna join the rest, gotta take a nap. Bye Damon." Alina headed to her room. Now i was alone by myself.

What else to do now? My stomach grumbled. Hungry again? Wonder what the cafeteria sells before lunch. Some small servings maybe, i'll just find out when i get there. With a decided mind, i stood up from the couch and headed for the door. Stepping out, the cold air slammed into me once again.

To the cafeteria i went, from a distance, there wasn't much people sitting around at the cafeteria. Groups of mercenaries walked by around though.

At the cafeteria, i quickly headed for the counter to see what they had.

Sandwiches, more coffee, and and some waffles. With a tray, i got a sandwich and some coffee with a stack of 3 waffles. My stomach grumbled once more, louder though.

Sitting on a table, i started eating immediately, the sandwich had egg and some vegetables in it. Is this brunch food? The waffles had maple syrup drizzled on top of it like the pancakes earlier. Sipping from the coffee, it was more bitter than earlier. I continued wolfing the meal down while my stomach kept grumbling, but quieter this time.

Soon, i finished it all. My stomach, no longer grumbling. Odd that it would starve after i just ate earlier. Wasn't the pancake enough? Or something else. Either way, i didn't feel starved anymore. I felt more energized after eating. Must be the coffee.

Finished and famished, i left. As i walked, i thought once more. What else can i do? Talk with the doctor? Haven't seen him for awhile, and my healing speed did get faster, maybe he also has something to say about that mission. The news said that the war wouldn't stop for some time, i can ask him if what i did really did help or not.
