A Light Found

Through blinding green fumes that seemed to be darker in color than before, passed the stained walls, we got on floor 4.

A single door remained unopened. Does this one have survivors?

Loud knocks alerted us, loud bangs coming from the other side of the wall.

Sebastian quickly moved near the unopened door, standing in front and nearing his head.

"We are mercenaries from Parabellum academy. If you're still alive, speak. If you can't, knock on the door three times." Sebastian spoke.

"Were alive here, we sealed the door shut though."

"How many of you are there inside?"

"4, 4 of us." She replied.

Knock knock knock knock.

"Are you wearing gas masks there?"

"Yes, only 2 of us though." The muffled voice replied back.

"Ok." Sebastian tried the lock, it opened all the way, but his body stopped in motion when he tried pushing it open.

"Door stuck."

"Stand away from the door we'll break it down." He shouted out. He started positioning himself.

Sebastian began kicking, leaning on the door i practically felt the vibrations of every kick.

After a few hard kicks, the door broke down, wide open and hanging from a door hinge. We all went inside. It was a larger room, wide with the windows barricaded by furniture and tape, hastily created.

A woman with a gas mask on her face stood away from the door to the right side. She was clad in heavy long sleeve clothing, her hands were covered with gloves.

Alina immediately ran to her, talking to her.

"First survivor group we found, where's the rest though." Lennox asked, looking around.

"She said they're through that door, they also have gas masks on too." The woman started walking towards a door, she opened it, peering her head inside before returning to us. 3 emerged out of the darkened room, all wearing gas masks and wearing baggy clothing or blankets, attempting to conceal their bodies. but 2 of them weren't wearing one.

"We'll get you out of here, to the exclusion zone. Damon, hand gas masks to those two quick." he ordered, i noticed as the green fumes started pouring through, slowly through the breached doorway. Rushing to the 3, i opened my ammo box, retrieving 2 gas masks, the two took one, wearing it tight.

"Alright, Stephen and Mary both of you take these four outside. We'll search the other rooms upstairs in case there are more survivors." With the new orders, the two left with the survivors. Keep your clothes tight and don't let your skin get into contact with the gas just in case." Stephen spoke to them, reminding them before they started walking down.

Outside we left, the room now being eaten by the noxious vapor.

Our pace was faster, becoming more lightfooted as we rapidly started searching room after room on each floor.

A try on the lock, Sebastian quickly adressed us, asking if there's anyone still alive inside. Silence replied back.

One swift kick and the door broke down, hanging by a hinge. Inside, there was only one person, lying on the floor with a gas mask.

"Shit, check the other rooms for survivors, and get any clothing that isn't tainted, we need to wrap thsi guy up." Sebastian ordered. As the gas moved inside we rushed inside the other rooms. Kicking the door down, it was a bedroom. The blanket was still in place, with one hand i snatched it out, running back to Sebastian who quickly yanked it out of my hand. He proceeded to wrap the blanket around the man, who was unresponsive but breathing. The others brought anything that can be found, shirts, other blankets, curtains.

After Sebastian finished, the man was fully wrapped in different fabrics.

"Alright, let's get him out. Lennox and Luna, get him out, we'll continue the search." The two held up the unconscious man by the shoulders.

Our search kept on, after the current floor was done, we ran to the next one. A closed door was in our sights, quickly stacking up, Sebastian started talking. The other side was silent.

A door kicked down and we rushed in. But only a brutal sight awaited in front of us. The room was partly encased in gas before we even got in. Corpses were around the floor. Wearing blankets among other clothing, but their faces weren't covered. Pools of blood trailed down the floor around the bodies.

Sebastian checked one of the corpses.

"No gas masks, they didn't have a chance." The others examined the other bodies, they were all lifeless.

Searching the other rooms inside, they were barren, empty.

"We'll have to search the other floors. Come on." Before leaving, i looked at the corpses one more time before leaving, they had a chance to survive like the others.

The other floors weren't as fortunate, there were no longer any closed doors for any possible survivors. Nor anyone alive in the gassed rooms.

With the search ended, our new trip was down. Rapidly running down we ran past the other floors. Seeing the dead bodies and messy rooms once more.

Outside the others waited.

"We'll pick up our pace, they need to spend as little time as possible there." Sebastian led us, now with people to bring back to the safe area, we stuck close together. Alina talked to them while we continued.

It felt longer to head back than before. Even with the faster pace. The gas was more blinding, making vision more difficult to see.

"Stop, movement ahead, doesn't seem like any rescue personnel." Sebastian moved forward. In front of us, a shadow approached forward from through the thick green.

Sebastian moved more away from the group, pulling out his pistol and dropping his box.

Sebastian started moving towards the darkened figure, which seemed to now be stationary.

A few seconds later, Sebastian returned, another survivor, through the gas. Picking up his box again after returning, holstering his pistol.

Alina quickly rushed to the survivor, checking arms and legs. It was a man. Weirdly, he had no long clothing on him, only short sleeves and pants with a gas mask.

"Weird, known chemical weapons should have an effect on the skin when in contact." She explained, confused while still checking him.

"We'll check more on it later, we still have to bring them back to the safe zone." Sebastian said.

With no more delay we started moving again.
