Chapter 3

The bitter cold latched onto my sweat as I stood on the deck of the rocking ship. The fog cascading against the harbor creating a scene that my ghost pokemon would find calming. I can hear the waves splash against the ship as I look around for anyone to give me any directions. I slowly start making my way further down the deck "Hello?" I mutter as loud as a mutter can get. I keep repeating this word after every dozen steps I take until, "Easy there sunny, you are headed in the wrong direction." I hear in the distance as a body starts to take shape in the fog in front of me. The closer we get to each other I can start making out the sailor uniform the man is wearing, "you must have just arrived, sorry about making you find us instead of the other way around. This late at night we run on a skeleton crew." He finished as he sticks his hand out for a handshake.

"No problem, I am just trying to find a place to crash for a few hours, can you help me with that?" I ask while extending my right hand to finish the handshake. "Aye, just this way lad," the sailor says letting go of my hand and leading me back to where I started. We walked in silence until the sound of a horn ripped through the night, causing my body to jump in shock. The sailor chucked "The horn means were heading back to the sea" the sailor explained as we continued walking as a door started to appear in distance. "That door leads to the cantina and we will walk through it to get to the stairs that lead down to the rooms." The sailor expressed as he walked up to the door and opened it.

We walked into a large white room, with long picnic tables strung together in the middle, with a buffet serving station on one of the walls. As we snaked through the picnic tables I looked out through the windows seeing the lights of the town I survived for one last time, as they got smaller as the boat sailed further away. "This leads downstairs," the sailor said cutting me out of my thoughts as we stood in front of a door at the other end of the cantina. He opened the door that showed a small ledge with stairs leading down further into the ship. "Rooms are down there, just look for any room with a green vacant sign above the handle, once you lock the door from the inside the sign outside will change to red and say occupied. I got to get back to my post if I don't see ya again, good luck in whatever you're doing." the sailor said as he turned back towards the cantina and left as I started making my way down the stairs.

My foot stepped off the last step of the stairs as I made my down the hall passing dozens of rooms with the red sign above the handle. After passing what seemed like the fortieth door I found the first unoccupied room. My hand reached out to the handle and pulled it down as I stepped into the room with spartan furnishings. The room had a small camping cot on the left side of the wall, a few feet to the right from the cot you ran into the other wall with some small hooks to hang clothes and other items, the wall opposite of the door had a small round port window that allowed some vision to the outside world. I closed the door behind me locking it as I shuffled the backpack off of me and hooked it onto the wall. I looked down to my left hand that still clutched onto Ghastly's Pokeball. My right hand trailed along the crappy cot as I untucked the covers, but all I could think about was how happy I got to sleep inside and on something with covers. "This has been a great day Gas" I muttered mostly to myself, as I slipped into the cot while hugging the Pokeball in-between my arms and I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

A roar tore through the early dawn sky as the side of the ship was hit with such force it got lifted out of the water. The roar woke me out of my sleep, as I can't imagine anyone sleeping through something so loud and threatening. I started to scramble out of the bed when the boat was hit thrusting me from the cot as I rolled on the floor slamming into the wall. The shock from my body hitting the wall dislodged my backpack as it fell off the hook and onto my chest. 'I don't think I have ever been so awake so quickly after being woke up' I thought. As I could feel the boat slam back into the water as the ship's buoyancy began to right the boat back in place. I could hear the muffled screams of the very few sailors on deck as I pushed the backpack off of me and began to stand up. I tossed the backpack over my shoulder as I crouched down to pick my Pokeball off the ground as it rolled near my feet. I pulled open the door and ran out to the hall only to slam into something for the second time in the last minute.

"Fuck" I groaned as I bounced off of the person occupying the room across of mine, who seemed to have the same response to this danger as me. I pushed off the floor with my hand feeling the weight of the backpack still slung over one shoulder, as I scrambled to my feet, while grasping my Pokeball as hard as I could to make sure I didn't lose it. Finally on my feet, I look over to see another teen in the same disarray as myself as another roar broke through the night. I braced myself knowing what followed the roar as the ship was again knocked out of the water. I could hear the boat creak and croak defying the odds to not buckle under the pressure as it smashed back into the water.

"Shit" my current neighbor yelled as he lost his footing falling back onto the floor. Without looking back, I began to run towards the stairs that go up towards the cantina, as I could hear the doors behind me starting to open with people rushing into the hall following me to the upper deck. My feet pounded up the last stair as I flung open the door as I rushed in-between the picnic tables and over to the side of the wall where flashes of light leaked into the room from the windows. The sailor's yells were more pronounced now but mushed together into a defiant symphony formed to protect this ship. I looked out through the window as I saw a giant blue scaled sea serpent raise its head and roar to the heavens as yellow flashes lit up the sky as multiple waves of electricity shot towards Gyarados.

The electricity pummeled through the roaring Gyarados, as I could smell the burning scales and flesh as the roar turned into a hurtful wail promising vengeance. A white light began to gather at the open mouth of the sea serpent while aiming its head towards the pokemon that threatened to vanquish its existence. The white light became brighter and denser as it unleashed a beam towards the deck of the ship. A monster crab jumped towards the charging beam as a white glossy shield surrounded the crab. The beam crashed into the shield, as an unstoppable force met an immovable object and white light exploded into the dawn sky. The sailor's defiant symphony went for a chorus as more flashes of yellow melded into the white light, as a painful cry was heard and the smell of burnt scales became palpable.
