24. His Life

Ash's POV

I don't think I've been this happy in years. We had thoroughly cleaned the whole place back to the way I remembered, and Alex had let me take him.

It seemed like ever since then he had been more submissive around me, which I didn't mind. In fact, I enjoyed his obedience.

Apparently Alex could cook fairly well. I wouldn't know since all human food tastes like cardboard to me, but the others in the room enjoyed it so I'm assuming that it's amazing.

The third night after we arrived brought with it my blood lust. I hadn't given in to it for over a week, and it was beginning to take over me. I was about ready to go into the forest when I remembered the well preserved bags in the refrigerator. I slipped out once Alex had fallen asleep and made my way into the kitchen. I grabbed one from the fridge and latched my aching fangs into it eagerly. Suddenly I heard a sharp in taking of breath behind me and whipped around on the balls of my feet. Alice stood as white as a sheet a few feet behind me.

"Y-you... You're a-" she was a stuttering mess before she suddenly became fearful. "Please don't hurt me!"

"Damn, what are they teaching you? I'm not going to kill you."

"B-but, you're one of them."

"And that will make me hurt you how?"

"You're all bad! Your kind killed our Luna for no reason."

"That wasn't even us!"

"Does he know?"

"Who know what?"

"Alex. Does he know?"

"Yes."

"He just accepts this! I can't believe this bullshit."

At that moment Alex walked into the room rubbing his eyes.

"What's going on in here?" he questioned sleepily.

"You knew that this bitch was a vampire and said nothing about it!" Alice shouted, beyond pissed off.

"Yeah, because there's nothing wrong with him!" he responded slightly louder, definitely awake now.

"His kind killed your mother!"

"My father killed my mother!"

Alice blinked twice, shocked. "Is that what he told you? If it is, I don't believe it for a second!"

"Why don't you believe him!? You believed him earlier today."

"I didn't know he was one of them earlier today."

"Yeah, well I watched him murder her right before my eyes, how about that!?" Alex shouted.

Alice was completely silent. I was shocked that he said it just like that. I would have expected him to at least butter the biscuit, but I didn't mind his new confidence. I knew deep down that it was mostly for me since he wouldn't want her dissing his mate.

"Y-you... What!?"

"Yeah. Sorry to break it through your thick skull, but your perfect alpha ain't so perfect! Maybe you should see him how I do; he's a lying, cheating, cold hearted bitch in my eyes."

"Well, what else has he done?"

"Other than murder his mate? How about mass murder without a reason!?"

"They deserved it!"

"What the actual fuck did they do!?"

Alice opened and closed her mouth a few times, obviously at a loss for words.

"Just drop it."

She stomped away in a fury and I felt Alex's breath on my skin.

"Sorry, I kind of lost my cool there."

"It's okay, it was kind of hot," I whispered gently. He giggled at me and pulled me into his chest so that my face was in the crook of his neck. It was nice at first, but the blood that ran through his veins began to get much too prominent for me. "I love you baby, but I need blood."

"Then drink."

"I can't! It'll definitely kill you. There's some right behind me that couldn't hurt anyone."

"Oh come on! I'll be fine, I promise."

I hesitantly bit into his neck, but soon my hunger overtook me and I was taking mouthfuls of his very sweet blood. His intentions must be very pure for it to taste this good. Suddenly I realized what I was doing and pulled out of his skin.

He was pale and shaky but nothing life threatening. I sighed in relief and helped him to our room, tucking his tired form into the covers.

I then positioned myself on the window and watched the forest. I was full, happy. I probably had a huge smile on my face but I couldn't help it. He trusted me with his life!

Alex's POV

I woke up the next morning a bit faint but mostly okay. Alice would probably be a pain in my ass, but I couldn't fix that problem.

I was quite upset last night. I mean, no one interrupts my sleep and bothers Ash at the same time without an issue from me. I trusted him. Probably way too much, but I think it was okay since he was my mate.

Speaking of Ash, he was leaning against the window phasing out towards the woods. I had gotten used to the fact that he barely slept. In fact it kind of comforted me that he was there to watch over me while I slept. Even if it was kind of creepy. I stood up and he snapped out of his daze, immediately attending to my every need. "Are you okay?" "Are you feeling faint?" "I think you should lie down a bit longer." Every time he spoke I assured him I was fine, and I somehow even got him to believe it. That was surely an achievement.

We walked down to the kitchen hand in hand to see Alice talking to Hannah animatedly.

"Great..." I whispered under my breath before walking into the kitchen.

"Really!?" Hannah shouted as soon as I sat down. "You mentioned nothing of this."

"Didn't think you wanted to know," I responded, munching on a banana calmly.

"A bit of heads up that we're living with the enemy would be awesome, Mr. Alpha!"

"If we were living with the enemy I would notify you, but we aren't."

"Really? Then explain that," she demanded, gesturing to the bite mark on the side of my neck.

"I told him to!"

"Well I doubt you two are really soulmates. Where're your marks?"

Ash and I pulled down our shirt collars at the same time to reveal my serpent and his wolf in the same position on our collarbones.

"Fine," she sighed, returning to her cereal. "If you trust him to be here then I guess I'll trust him too. As soon as he harms anything I care about, however, he's as good as dead."

"Deal."

I smiled at her and finished my food, tossing the peal into the trashcan.

"Everything that I questioned since we met has now been answered."

"Really? Like what?"

"Why we're here, why he makes faces when we eat. Even why he was so eager to clean the place."

"Yeah, I guess it does," I responded and kissed his lips that still tasted like my blood.

"Love you."

"Love you too," he whispered, kissing me back.
