49. Void

Benji's POV

I held the gun right up to my neck, and my finger rested on the trigger. I don't know if this will work, but I can hope... Otherwise I'm dead. I pulled the trigger in slow motion, and Mikey's eyes were panicky as I had ever seen them. He didn't know what I was about to do...

As I had hoped, the bullet didn't enter my neck and kill me. Instead, its impact was taken by the collar I'm currently wearing, and the now visible item fell crashing onto the floor loudly. Now, what could possibly defeat this man? I only have a few moments to think before he regains his senses, and I sighed loudly before lifting my hands. I could see Mikey still running towards me, but I didn't mind as my mind went to projecting my magic forward. Instead of doing the stance I was taught, I chose to do a variation of my own that wouldn't fling me backwards if I needed to put a lot of magic into this. My feet stood shoulder width apart in a solid foundation, and I breathed in slowly to fuel the necessary power deep in my chest. I had forgotten to put my aura back up, and I was glad for that now. This... Will probably take all I have.

As I focused on pushing the power through my body, everyone was just then turning to look at the noise of the gun shot. My hands began to Glow at the shear amount of force I was about to push through them, and I was careful to aim my magic directly at Dray. I exhaled into the now cold air from me sucking most of the energy from it, and the action was all it took to open the floodgates for my magic. A large flow of electrified water snaked towards Dray, and his dark red eyes had just barely looked up at me before he was hit in the face. I don't know why I chose water; I guess I thought that water extinguishers fire, and he's kind of the king of hell which is full of fire. Don't attack me for my weird thinking, okay?

As soon as my beautiful concoction hit him, he was knocked off of his pile at the speed. The world was coming out of slow motion for me, and I was able to experience the loud thud of his body hitting the wall. The old demon king was screaming his ass off from I assume the electricity, and I held him up off of the ground to ensure he wouldn't become an unhittable target. I had to keep going until he stops moving... Oh goodness, I'm already in a slight pain. However, as the minutes of him screaming continued, I began to feel the absence of energy in my body. Every limb was shaking, and it wasn't just from the drastic change in the room temperature. Pushing so much magic that I barely have is painful, but to have to get him. The world was spinning slightly, and I felt my previously horribly strong magic wavering like an old man. I swayed treacherously on my feet, and I finally heard Dray's screams stutter to a halt. Just... A bit... Longer! He could just be knocked out.

However, I only had a couple more seconds in me when my magic stuttered to a stop. I felt a huge void in my body as I fell over into Mikey's arms, and I saw him call out to someone off in the distance. The world was utterly soundless, yet he still tried to get through to me. My eyes were trying to drift closed, but he would shake me every time I tried sink down under. His eyes were desperate every time he had to shake me... Like he knew one time it wouldn't work. My body was transferred to someone else's arms, and I faded in and out of consciousness as I was being carried down some kind of hallway. What is this void inside me..? I've never felt this before. Whoever was carrying me brought me into a kind of clinic, and my neck suddenly decided to give up on supporting my head. I feel like a newborn baby with memories.

My body was placed gently onto a metallic table, and my eyes shifted listlessly to find something– anything to hold onto. Mikey crouched down in front of my face, and I could only hear selectively from his moving mouth. "Benji... Magic... Fragile... Dying..? Lost... No..."

I could hear the heartbeat monitor's slow rhythm chirping beside my left ear, and the frantics of everyone around me was strangely unconcerning. I don't think I had the brain power left for that function. Mikey had shifted so that he was hugging me loosely around the shoulders, and I felt a bit of that small void fill up in my chest. "Stay with me, Benji. Everything's gonna be okay," Mikey breathed while stroking through my sweaty hair. The locks stuck to my forehead in a messy fashion, but his fingers were able to come them back to normal.

"Did he die?" I stammered uneasily. There were a lot of breaks in my attempts to get out the few short words, and I felt the effort deep inside of my chest.

"Shhhhh, save your breath. The demon king is officially dead; you did it my warlock master."

"Die?" The single word sounded like fifteen with the amount of wavering and stutters in it, and Mikey swiftly shushed my concerns. His brown eyes betrayed his true emotions, and his hand gently rubbed the side of my head. The motion was calming, but it also gave me a sense of dread. I'm far too young to die.

"Benji, there's a small possibly that you're going to die." My eyes widened, and I heard the beeping accelerate on the machine. "Calm down calm down, everything's okay now. That option is one of the least likely of them all. You're probably going to wake up just fine because you're a master."

"If I don't?"

"There's a medium chance that you'll lose access to your magic until it builds up over time like a newborn... Uh, in a rare case it might be gone forever?" I squeaked loudly, and his reassurances only served to speed up the monitor more.

"Keep him calm kid," one of the doctors gritted out, and Mikey nodded before stroking my hair again.

"Don't worry, okay? There's a spell we can do to transfer a bit of my magic into you; how does that sound?" I nodded my head with a small lag, and his gentle hands were lulling me into unconsciousness. I can only hope that, when I wake, everything turns out alright. I've only known about my magic for a week max, but I've definitely fallen in love with the power and responsibility it brings. This void in my chest... I hope it's not there by tomorrow.
