Surprise Attack

"Brother Liu Kai, where are you?" asked Jin Chow as he swam across the street and used the buildings to cover up.

They all covered their ears when the mighty wind came from the direction of the blast.

"Chow, I'm here!" screamed Liu Kai, who thankfully dropped on the top of a giant water lily. "Something dropped from the sky. Be cautious!" said Liu Kai.

Liu Kai closed his eyes, doing his hardest to widen his perception, expecting to see something but failed. When the smoke had gone on the roof, they leaped out of the floating plants and caught the dangling vines.

They quickly climbed the vines and rushed to the tree branches that used the buildings as their roots.

Liu Kai and Jin Chow safely climbed back to the building and discovered nothing apart from the holes that ruined about half of the top floor. They can see the floor beneath the top from the large hole where they were standing earlier. It looked like an office packed with a lot of monitors, a lot of desks, and a lot of office stuff. They closed their eyes and stared at each other, puzzled about what had happened.

"We are being targeted," Liu Kai warned.

"No, that's not likely," said Jin Chow. "There shouldn't be any humans here," he said.

"What makes you believe a human made it? Boy, we don't know what's likely or not. The planet is in turmoil, and anything can happen. Let's try to hide in the meantime," Liu Kai said. 'Tsk, his mind is just working on what he already knows, not worrying about what's conceivable.' Liu Kai thought to himself, tilting his head side by side, looking for a spot to cover up.

"Hurry! Follo—Chow! Incoming!!!!" Liu Kai hasn't finished his sentence yet and...

KABOOM!!!

"Ahhhhckckk!" both of them groaned after narrowly slipping to the lower floor.

"What the hell is that?" Jin Chow complained after he had been covered with debris.

Liu Kai stood up and moved cautiously to inspect the floor, but the dust from the impact filled his eyesight. 'Think, think, think, think! What's the enemy here? Insect? Insect? Is there an insect that could strike from above? There's no trace of artillery, what's this? 'Liu Kai asked himself to do his utmost to evaluate the situation.

"Chow, stand up! Look for the stairs and let's take the cover first," Liu Kai instructed. He used his right hand to block the sunlight, looking to see if anything was in the sky, but he found nothing.

"Brother Liu Kai! I've found the stairs." Jin Chow waved his hand to catch his attention.

"Yeah, I'm coming." Liu Kai ran towards Jin Chow, but...

KABOOM!!!

"Uggh!" screamed Jin Chow, driven to duck, and covered his face with his arms.

"Brother Liu Kai!" he yelled while still standing on the back of a table attached to the wall.

Liu Kai stumbled when he dashed earlier and ended up falling on the ground despite being aware of the attacks.

"Damn it! Whoever did this, you'll pay for it!" said Liu Kai, swearing and losing his coolness after he slipped.

"Chow! Do you hear me? Let's get to the top of the building and fight it head-on," yelled Liu Kai.

"What? How?" answered Jin Chow, staying in his place.

"Use your abilities. Let's search what's hitting us and fight it like a man. Your blessing can deflect anything, right?" Liu Kai asked Jin Chow while he was still lying on the ground.

"I can only use my skill twice a day, are you sure it's a good time to use it?" Jin Chow asked Liu Kai.

"Yeah, just do that." Liu Kai rushed Jin Chow.

Jin Chow stood up and leaped to the roof, landing mostly unnoticed on the top floor's remaining areas. He focused his vision, and he saw something in the clouds. He can't find out what it is because it's so far away.

"What do you see?" asked Liu Kai, who was still standing on the lower deck.

"It's…" Jin Chow's eyes were wide open, and before he knew it…

KABOOM!!!

Something descended from the sky at an extraordinary speed and hit Jin Chow before he triggered his skill. His body struck a branch of a tree sticking out into the road, and he fell.

Liu Kai was about to climb to the roof, but he saw Jin Chow falling from the top.

"Chow!!!" Liu Kai shouted while looking at him fall.

Liu Kai ran on the lower floor after finding a window he can use to jump out, but...

KABOOM!!!

Another strike came down from the sky and forced Liu Kai to cover up.

"DAMN IT!" Liu Kai yelled his frustrations after taking cover.

The attacks are getting aggressive, and the building is crumbling with the attacks.

'What am I going to do? Do I have it head-on to trigger Berserk? 'He asked himself for it.

'No, I could be killed right away if I receive that. I don't have the same armor as Chow. So what am I going to do? He's in that position because of my advice.'

'What's wrong with Jin Chow? I informed him and said he should trigger his skill. Why didn't he turn it on? 'There were a lot of questions stacked up in his head.

'The threats, they're not that effective when they were made successively. They might need time to increase their power before they launch an assault. That's it,' he said.

He went out and fled fast, expecting an attack at any time.

KABOOM!!!

There was another strike, but Liu Kai dodged it. 'I knew it! 'Liu Kai grinned a little after his strategy went successful. He expected that he would be targeted as soon as he showed up and ran steadily for a few seconds before he bolted in the opposite direction.

Liu Kai leaped out of the skyscraper window and unconsciously discovered Jin Chow's body with shattered armor. Liu Kai dove and swam to pick him up and headed to the surface.

"Hey! Wake up!" Liu Kai said as soon as they emerged from the water. He pressed his palm to Jin Chow's chest to force him to throw up the water.

Liu Kai grabbed a giant floating lotus and used it as a shield while pulling Jin Chow to the nearest house. They were concealed in an abandoned house. He placed his hand on Jin Chow's chest and pressed numerous times so he could breathe. He checked if Jin Chow had already been breathing, and after checking that he was holding his body.

For the time being, he went out of Fang Shi when Jin Chow was unconscious.

He's uncertain if the attackers will follow them, but he can fight back outside better than in Fang Shi with his perception functioning well.

Luckily, whatever attacked them, it didn't follow Liu Kai and Jin Chow.

He kept Jin Chow on his shoulder as he leaped from the floating plants to floating plants as quickly as he could back to the west.

Liu Kai arrived outside Fang Shi and gently leaned Jin Chow on a tree.

"Hey, wake up!" Liu Kai grabbed his broad shoulder and moved, but there was no response.

He examined the body of Jin Chow if there was an injury, but found none.

"Thank goodness." Liu Kai sighed a relief after examining Jin Chow.
