They landed the TARDIS and the Doctor put on the handbrake.

"There we go, perfect landing," he praised himself, a smug smile on his face. "Which isn't easy in such a tight spot."

"It is when you actually know how to fly it," Nina commented, earning a fake hurt look from the Doctor.

"Yeah, you should be getting used to tight spots by now," Martha added. Nina didn't quite know what to think of that. "Where are we?"

Earth.

"The end of the line," the Doctor told her. "No place like it." They opened the door for them to realize they were inside a room, next to a clothes horse.

"Home," Martha realized. "You took me home."

Nina saw how sad her face and tone were. She knew that sadness. Living a life of so much excitement and adventure, then realizing it was all over, and your boring life has begun. She knew how it felt like.

"In fact, the morning after we left," the Doctor pointed out. "So you've only been gone about twelve hours. No time at all, really." Martha turned to him with a hurt look on her face.

"But all the stuff we've done," she argued. "Shakespear, New New York, Old New York?"

"Yep, all in one night, relatively speaking," he told her. Nina frowned. Could he not see how much she didn't want to go back to her normal boring life? Was he that ignorant or was he actually dismissing it? "Everything should be just as it was. Books, CDs, laundry. So, back where you were, as promised."

"That's it?" She asked him. He nodded.

"Yeah," he told her, grabbing Nina's arm and pulling her back inside. "I should probably... Err--" he was cut off by Martha's home phone ringing.

"I'm sorry," she apologized for it interrupting him. The voicemail then started to speak.

"Martha, are you there? Pick it up, will you?" The voice said.

"It's mum," she informed the two TimeLords. "It'll wait." Nina frowned. Was she deliberately ignoring her mother's call? What was wrong with this dimension?

"All right then, pretend that you're out if you like," the voice continued. "I was only calling to say that your sister's on TV. On the news of all things. Just thought you might be interested." Martha frowned and quickly ran to her TV, turning it on.

"The details are top-secret," an elderly man said in an interview on the television.

"How could Tish end up on the news?" Martha wondered out loud. Tish, Nina guessed, was the pretty wound woman standing next to the old man.

"I'm guessing she's not famous or anything" Nina guessed, genuinely curious. Martha scoffed.

"Tonight, I will demonstrate a device which will redefine our world," the man continued. Martha was perplexed, watching her sister appear on the telly, but both Nina's and the Doctor's attention were turned to the man who seemed to be speaking of a big scientific project.

"She's got a new job. PR for some research lab," Martha said.

"With the push of a single button, I will change what it means to be human," the man said. It was at that moment when Martha turned off the television and turned her attention back to the Doctor, who was now standing on the doorway, ready to leave.

"Sorry," Martha said. "You were saying we should?"

"Yes, yes," the Doctor agreed. "We should. One trip is what we said." Martha looked down in disappointment. Nina frowned. Was he leaving Martha because of her? If so, was it because he wanted to take care of her in these next few days, or because he didn't trust her and thought she was too dangerous to be around a human he cared for? And hadn't he heard what the old man just said on the television!?

"Yeah," Martha mumbled. "I suppose things just kinda escalated."

"Mmm. Seems to happen to me a lot."

"Thank you," Martha said sincerely. "For everything." He granted her a soft smile.

"It was my pleasure," he told her, stepping inside of the TARDIS.

There was a silence, both Martha and the Doctor waiting for Nina to step in, but she didn't move a muscle.

"Are you alright?" Martha asked her. Nina was suddenly brought back from her trance.

"No, I'm sorry," she exclaimed, a confused frown upon her face. "Did he say he was going to change what it means to be human?"

The three of them got back inside the TARDIS and walked to the giant wardrobe. They needed to get some formal clothes to be able to go to that event they'd seen on TV. Martha was wearing a maroon dress that went down to her knees, and the Doctor was wearing a simple black suit with a black bow tie. Nina had to admit it, it looked pretty good on him.

She came out of the wardrobe last, wearing a simple dark red dress that accentuated her waist and then flew freely from her waist down, reaching her feet. She didn't like the colour red very much, but she knew how well it contrasted with her eyes, bringing out the green in them.

"Oh, wow, okay," Martha said once she saw Nina in her dress. Nina took the sides of the dress in hands and bowed to her, a smirk on her face. Martha laughed and did the same. Neither of the girls had noticed, but the Doctor was on the top steps of the stairs, his head barely visible from the hole on the floor. He shook his head and finally walked to the girls.

"Ladies," he said, giving each one of them one of his arms. The two girls took his arms and they stepped out of the TARDIS.

The trio walked through the dimly lit streets, towards the gala event that was being held a couple of blocks away.

"Never seen you wearing a bow tie before," Martha commented as they walked.

"Oh, the black tie," the Doctor acknowledged. "Whenever I wear this, something bad always happens."

"Why did you put it on, then?" Nina asked him with a small smirk. He looked down at her and they locked eyes for a second before Martha spoke again.

"It's not the tie, that's just you," she joked, although it sounded serious. "Anyway, I think it suits you. In a James Bond kind of way."

"James Bond, really?" He asked, his eyebrows raised. Nina suddenly felt a chill go through her whole body. She shook for a second and tightened her grip on the Doctor's arm. "Are you alright?"

"Peachy," was her answer. The Doctor kept his eyes on her, expecting a better, honest answer. "I'm fine, just slightly cold." The Doctor frowned and only then Nina realized her mistake. He wiggled his hand out of Martha's grip and brought it to her cheek.

"You're really warm," he informed. "Maybe you should go back to the TAR--"

"Nuh-uh," Nina interrupted him, backing up form his hand on her cheek. "You're not benching me." The Doctor slightly frowned.

"I just think it's the best idea if you stay behind. Just for now."

"I don't," she said back. "And you're not the boss of me, so let's go. Mr. Lazarus won't wait for us to get there." She told him with a smug smile on her face. Martha scoffed with a laugh and followed the girl. The Doctor followed them closely.

"I'm just saying, you might not last long like that," he countered. "You might not have so much time before your body actually gives up form all of the energy inside of it."

"Well, time isn't the boss of me either, never was," she said, a smirk on her face as she winked at the Doctor. He shook his head an scoffed.

"That's my line," he whined.
