In a quiet and eerie looking room, Aren, holding an orb, looked at the passing lives of people. He didn't know why he was there, nor did he know why his body never left the chair in which he sat. In this place, everything was blurry for him, except for the glowing orb which showed the lives of unknown people, from their birth to death.
He couldn't hear their voices, but could feel their joy, satisfaction and sometimes sadness but couldn't react to any of the emotions. His mind was dull and his body was not in his control. It was like he was in an incoherent dream of some other person.
While performing that monotonous action, he didn't know how much time had passed but his mind was starting to get clear, like when someone finally finds light in a dark space.
After a while, he could finally hear something. It was very faint at first but the voice gradually got louder and louder and Aren could sense that it was calling out to him...
"Aren!" "Aren!" "Aren, wake up..." the voice was of a woman's.
As Aren woke up from his slumber, the bright rays of sunlight coming from the windows assualted his eyes. He took a while to get used to this brightness and looked around the room, finding himself on an unfamiliar bed covered by a thin blanket.
His cloak was hanged on the wardrobe to his left side. Befuddled about his situation, Aren got off from the bed and tried to remember what happened yesterday.
'Yesterday... Ah I went with miss Monica. In her room, I had activated my rune.'
After he organised his messy thoughts, he realised that he had passed out the other day in her room when saw those visions.
'Then that means I'm still here. Its already the 8th hour, I can't go to class today.' Aren thought while looking at the hourglass. He then put on his uniform and went outside. The corridor was wider here than in his dorm. However, it was not vacant but filled with mages and most of them were rank 2 mages!
Overwhelmed by the pressuring spritual powers, he quickly got in and quickly closed the door, only to see katty standing behind him. She was now in a more casual dress.
"Oh, you're awake. Good morning." She said while handing him some milk.
"If you're trying to go to the dorms, wait till master comes. She said there are some things she wanted to ask you." as she said this, Aren had no choice but to wait until the class was over.
Actually, he also had some concerns as to why he saw visions of katty and passed out yesterday.
While he waited, he chatted with katty. It wasn't that he was bored but the girl's curiosity was simply out of this world. She asked questions after questions about him in those two hours. Even the Media reporters, who were usually said to be very annoying, were not as persistent as her.
When the bell finally rang for 10th hour, he was already very exhausted. But even then she didn't seem to stop and kept talking which he simply ignored.
He didn't have to wait long as Monica came straight to her room after the class was over. Entering the room with large strides, she put the book on the desk and came before Aren.
"Why did you suddenly fainted yesterday?" even though the voice was same as cold as yesterday, Aren could sense the concern it concealed.
Aren then told her everthing about the rune suddenly spinning, him seeing katty getting killed and even that strange dream he saw in the morning. Of course, parts about the hexagram star were omitted.
After Monica had listened to everything that Aren told her, her expression visibly changed. It was a mixture of astonisment, disbelief and slight worry. When she replied to him, her voice started quivering as if she was greatly shaken.
"If... if what you are saying... is true then... You might be a seer, Aren."
"A seer?" Aren asked. He didn't know what a seer was as he never heard that term before but by the reaction of his teacher, it had to be something grand.
"Yes." Monica became very solemn when describing about seers.
"Seers are those individuals who can see future without any divination rituals. Even for a greater diviner, without the divination ritual they could only see at most one day into the future and even that was fragmented. Furthermore, they couldn't see everyone's future.
But a seer was different, they had the ''all seeing eyes'' by which they could pry into the secrets of anyone's fate. In the history of our world, only 12 seers have appeared until now and every seer has brought about great changes to the world. If you saw that katty will die in near future then it will happen."
"But how can you be this sure that I am a seer?" Aren inquired, perplexed at the situation he was in. He was also confused why she would be so calm knowing that katty might die.
"You said that the first vision you saw was the examination result of katty, right? The first semester exams for juniors of this year will be held ten months later. If katty gets fourth place in the exams as you say, then it will be proved that you are a seer." Monica said, sounding confident in her conjecture. Then, seeing the look in Aren's face, she added.
"You see, its not that I'm not worried about katty but there is a way that she will not die."
Katty's eyes regained their luster when she heard this.
"Then how can she be saved? In the vision I saw, I couldn't save her. No matter how much someone tries, what is fated will happen." Aren asked, hoping that she would really have a way. Even though he just met this little girl, he strangely didn't want her to die. He wasn't a compassionate person, nor he was a righteous man
He was only trying to save this girl because of what he saw. It seemed that this girl would be very important to him in the future judging by how desperate he was when that ogre killed her. He had a feeling that things might turn bad if he just let her die.
Facing this question of Aren, Monica just pointed at him.
Me? Aren was confused. He didn't know what she was talking about.
"Yes, you. Only you are capable of saving her. It is true that others can't bring changes to the fate of people but this doesn't apply to seers. It is written in the Book of Seers that they are born to change the fates of them and the people around themselves!"
....
It had been three days since that incident happened. After talking for sometime more and considering how big this matter was, Monica had purposed to report about this matter to the headmaster. Of course, as Aren's voucher, Cowen would also be pertained to this matter.
Monica had requested a private meeting with the headmaster but because he was busy, they were asked to wait till today.
After the class, Aren again went with teacher Monica which made his dorm mates such as Rina and Nick very suspicious. It was wasn't only them but the whole class was getting suspicious. At this rate, it wouldn't be long before rumors about Monica giving Aren special privilege starts to go around in the classrom.
As they headed upstairs, Monica and Aren met up with Cowen on the second floor. He was dressed up nicely with his silvery hair combed neatly. When they came before Cowen, he could already see that there were as many as 11 rank 1 and rank 2 mages gathered around, with most of them being females. Aren, who had his face and body fully covered in a cloak, looked at his Master chatting softly with the ladies. At the sight of this, he couldn't help but think that his master really had a very high charisma.
Seeing that they had arrived, he terminated his conversation and asked them to follow him. Although the other mages were unwilling to leave inwardly, no one voiced out an objection. They just silently left.
With Cowen in front, Aren and Monica reached the fifth floor without stopping. Just as they reached the fifth floor, Cowen asked them to stop and faced Aren.
"We can only go up to here. From here on, only Aren is allowed to enter."
Saying that, he pointed to door at the end of the hallway. It was the door of the Only room on the fifth floor.
