If there was someone that should appear on top at this test. It had to be Chauv Stanley.
The only ones that he should care about in this test were Stephen from the Edwards family and the Headmaster's third son, Fernando.
Chauv was a wise yet ambitious person. He had always held the belief that he was the chosen one. He was the one that was supposed to and would become the head of his family someday.
As a heir from a major family, this thought was not entirely inappropriate.
He had blue ring aptitude, the support of this family and with his devotion to magic, how could it not be possible?
There was a secret of there being four major families which was only divulged between rank 3 mages and above. Other than the Edwards family, Headmaster Roderick's family and the family of Court mages; there was another family.
The dark mage family.
It was a family that practiced forbidden magic. Their head and Chauv's Great grandfather, Morgan Stanley, was a fearsome Conjurer who had made a pact with a Greater Devil.
He could actually use the powers of a devil!
In this test, other than taking the top position, Chauv also had another thing to do.
He held his token on his left hand, which showed that he was of team Svec. On his other hand was a unique tracking device. As he gazed at the strong signals shown in the tracking device, which were given by the magical tracker he had placed on that brat, Chauv murmured.
"That brat katty is now a goner! I'll make sure to accomplish the task given to me by great-grand father."
The task that the family head had handed upon him was to kill Katty. However, the job of killing was not to be done by him. If he did that, then the Court Mage would immediately find out about it.
He just had to make sure that that little girl would ''accidently enter the territory of monsters.'' And the monster settlement which was close to her was the Ogre settlement 40 kilometres away.
To coerce her to do that without garnering her suspicion, he had to first reach her. On the way, he could collect some moonstones.
'Hehe, I'm looking forward to her appearance when she is surrounded by ogres. I wonder what reward Great-grandpa would give me after I killed her.'
While thinking about the satisfied expression the family head would have, Chauv started to head northwest.
The reason their family had targeted Katty was because in the test held previous year, Emelia, katty's sister had defeated Chauv's older cousin, Henry. Although she didn't kill him, due to her, Henry couldn't even pass the test. This was a disgrace and an insult to their family, which Morgan had sworn to pay back ten-fold.
...
Meanwhile, on the other side of the river shore, 10 kilometres away from where Chauv was,
A small girl in light blue robes was walking forward towards the river. With the large staff she was holding and as many as thirty different scrolls her big sister had given her, it was evident that her walking speed was slow.
At a glance, the girl looked extremely cute. This was Katty. After being teleported, she hadn't found any moonspring even until now. She would sometimes rest and sometimes even jog, impatient to quickly find a moonspring, beat those bad guards and quickly collect moonstones. Ah yes, she also had to find big brother Aren.
After half an hour of walking or maybe that was called running in her case, the girl finally found a moonspring. Yet, instead of being left alone for her, it was guarded by a big bad bear.
The bear was really big, black in colour, it's face ugly and... scary. No, she couldn't be scared by such a beast! It's paws had large yellow claws and with its beige-coloured eyes, it appeared to be quite intimidating and formidable as a foe.
"Grrr..."
The bear started growling when it saw that someone was coming near. As she saw this, katty quickly backed away several steps. When the bear sat down on the ground again did she stop.
A small frown formed on her delicate forehead. Such a terrible guardian.
Bu..but sh...she was not scared. She had to defeat it and sh..she would do so exactly!
But... but for now, she was tired. She would first rest for a bit and then...
Though she looked to be air-headed, she was serious inside. She knew that fighting this bad bear in a tired condition was not good.
'Ha... I'll make you cry later.'
While it was mystery as to how she would make a bear cry, she sat down near a tree far away from the bear, making a ''master plan'' to defeat the guardian.
"...After that... this and then... hmm... maybe this and the bear will be defeated!"
While making her plans, her strange murmurs turned into a shout after a while. In about 10 minutes, it seemed that she had fully rested and even made a plan which she considered to be ''perfect''.
She stood up with the support of her staff and walked step by step towards the bad bear. Today will be the day she would kill a magical beast without the help of her big sister.
Seeing the little creature coming towards the spring again, the bear stood up. Well it was not just a bad bear, it had a proper name. In fact, it was a rare species which could use darkness attribute magic.
The Dark Bear!
It also had three spell like abilities namely dark claw strike, dark balls and Fear aura. Other than that, it's large body and shaggy hide could also be considered as weapons. With its sharp but strong canine teeth, it would without a doubt give a headache to any of its enemies and yet...
"Silly bear, it will be your demise today!"
Katty shouted as she pointed her staff at the bear. However, instead of a booming voice, all that sounded was cute and squeaky.
With her spellbook already opened, she casted the spell with ''great courage and heorism'', which she believed she had right now.
"Water spear!"
A spear formed of water elements thrusted forward at the bear, intending to land on its head.
Splash!
But, other than a small scratch, it did nothing. It was not that Katty's spell was not potent enough but the thick hide of dark bear had protected it.
"ROARR!..."
As if triggered by the attack, the bear roared in an enraged manner. Its passive ''fear aura'' already starting to spread outwards at the surroundings. Charging forward, it beared its fangs at the little girl.
Katty suprisingly was not deterred at this moment, even having a smug smile. It seemed as if everything was according to her ''plan''.
When the bear was about to grab her, she suddenly took out a red scroll and tore it apart, chanting the incantations for activating the spell enchanted in it.
"Idiotic bear, take this!"
Immediately after the cute voice was heard, A ring of fire enveloped the dark bear.
Howl!
As the sizzling, sound of flesh being roasted was heard, the bear started howling in agony. Still, that was not enough to kill it. Escaping the ring, it didn't go near Katty now but instead threw three dark balls towards her!
Looking at the round dark balls, which seemed to be absorbing light from the surroundings, Katty hurriedly cast another spell.
"Nedicarma lapetinu: Water wall arise!"
Bang! bang! bang!
With the dark balls hitting on the wall of water, banging sounds echoed. It seemed that Katty's water wall was not enough to block them as one of the balls hit her.
"Ah!"
Wong~
A blue shield fortunately blocked the that dark ball from doing her any injuries. Katty heaved a sigh of relief when she found out that she was not hurt. It was the one time energy shield that had been enchanted on her robe that protected her.
'This bear is bad... I need to kill it quickly.'
However, just as she was about to cast another spell, a male shout was heard.
"Demonic flames!"
With that shout, the bear strangely started burning in black flames. It tried to put out the flames like last time by using darkness elements but the flames seemed to be eating the elements and burning more instead.
It howled and tried to reach the boy who had cast the spell but just before its claws could touch the boy's skin, it's flesh slowly dissappeared. It was as if it was being eaten by the flames. After a while, even its bones were gone.
Katty looked at this ''valiant knight'' who just had helped in killing this bear and suddenly exclaimed
"It's you! The smelly guy!"
