Druid?

John went back to his "safe" place that night and ate a few more flowers.

When he laid down and was preparing to go sleep he could feel a strange resonance between himself and the flowers he was used to eat. It was almost as if he could feel a pulse coming from them.

Every three seconds, a warm fuzzy feeling would come into his body. John had no idea how, but he knew it came from the flowers. It was like a connection. He had never felt anything similar before in his life.

As John fell asleep, his dreams were filled with the red flowers, all of these dreams had something in common. They're all about the plants reproducing. Some they had uprooted themselves and started walking, and others, John himself had moved them to a different place and planted them there.

But one dream in particular, was more memorable, it was a dream where, John, had become part red flower, part human. This, normally would just be categorized as weird dream, but what made it easy to remember, was the pulsating feeling John felt all night, sped up a lot, about 3 times per second. Almost as if the plants were excited with this dream.

When John woke up, he looked at the plants and was surprised with what he saw. They weren't at the same place anymore, in fact, neither was he. In the place the flowers used to be at, there was only freshly dug earth, when John looked at his own hand, he saw a small little patch of green at the palm of his hand

The pulsating feeling was now gone, and in its place, was a new feeling. It was still warm and fuzzy, but it wasn't pulsating  anymore. It was continuous and it came from his own hand.

Normally, a person would freak out if they ever found themselves in a situation like this. But John could somehow tell that the flowers were asking for his permission to do something to his body. Almost like they were afraid of scaring him.

As John considered the plants, he decided, Yes, they could do what they wanted. After all, what did he have lose. He was in a strange place, with strange fauna and he could tell from the feeling, they didn't mean any harm.

When he conveyed his feeling of acceptance at the plants request, John immediately could feel something moving inside his arm, he could tell they were roots. It went from his right hand, up his arm, the roots divided in two, a small one and a big one. The small one went up his shoulder, to his back and started following his spinal cord up toward his brain, each centimeter it moved, it got thinner and thinner. In the end, this thing root, attached itself to his cerebellum and stopped moving. It seemed satisfied with its position.

The ticker root, also went to his spine, but it went down instead. When it reached his coccyx, it followed his pelvis and divided again. The new roots, were similar in thickness, they went down his legs, down his thighs, they went down his tibias and fibulas, going down to his feet.

When the roots reached his feet, the suddenly spread into a thousand smaller ones, all of the attached to the palm of his feet.

John was puzzled with all that was happening, but he could feel the flower getting excited. When all the roots finished attaching themselves to his feet, he could feel them literally ripping the sole of his feet off, and replacing the flesh with roots.

When the process was finished, he could clearly feel a connection to those roots in his body. Strangely enough, he could also feel all the roots in his feet extending out of his feet and absorbing nutrients from the ground beneath his feet. When that process happened, a feeling of satiation would rise from his whole body. John thought that perhaps, he was feeding himself like a plant.

When John looked at his hand, the point where it all started, he could see that the green was much more vivid than before, and in the center of it a brown and rough surface could be seen. It seemed very much like wood to his eyes.

John decided to stand up, he could feel those weird roots immediately retreat to his feet even before he got up. It seemed to him, that those roots would follow his commands. Following that train of thought, he decided to experiment, it wouldn't do him any good not knowing what his own body was like.

John looked at a tree, 3 meters ahead of him. He was aware of the roots in his body, but what could they do? He had a theory, they were some kind of parasite, they would latch on a host, most likely, after the host had eaten a few of the flowers. When they were done, they probably would take control of the host. Now, why his situation was different, he had no idea why.

As john approached the tree, he had an idea. "Weren't the roots supposedly a parasite? Could he use that to his own favor?" To test that, John placed his hand on the bark of the tree, he could feel the hard solid wood, he could tell from the shape of the tree, it wasn't from anywhere near where he used to live before he found himself in this place. While the place he lived had a lot of trees, most of them were part of a tundra. this place on the other hand, also had a lot of trees, but the shapes of them… they're so different from anything he was used to.

As John placed his hand on the bark, he commanded the roots on his hand to penetrate the tree. The roots followed his order and tried to go in the tree, well they tried their best, but the wood was simply too hard for the new and fragile roots.

Seeing this situation, John nodded, he kinda expected that they weren't strong enough for this task. After thinking some more, a smile appeared on his face. Everything had a weak spot… right?

At this moment John decided to command the roots to eat as much as possible. He would need a lot of energy for the job ahead of him.

After what felt like 2 hours, John felt very happy. He was finally full. Knowing that he didn't need food anymore was honestly a relief. He didn't know how available food would be in this forest, nor did he have any experience with hunting or gathering foods.

John looked at the tree again, although the bark was too hard for the roots to penetrate, he wasn't a mindless plant. He was a intelligent human. John grabbed the rock he had sharpened a day before and started scraping the bark. Slowly but surely, he reached a point where a thick liquid was slowly flowing down the bark of the tree.

He knew this was his chance, John immediately put his hand against the hole he had carved and commanded the roots again.

This time, the results were magnificent. John could tell that that roots were going deeper and deeper inside the tree, they were absorbing all the nutrients the tree had accumulated for probably years. When the roots were going deeper, John could also tell that something was happening to his own body too.

Almost if the roots were integrating themselves in his body, million of small roots were spreading around his body. They were the thickness of a hair, if not thinner. All these roots, started assimilating to his bones, his veins, some of them surrounding his nerves and tendons.

When all the process was finished, John could tell that he himself, had undergone massive modifications. That scared him a little, what would happen if the process happened again. As John thought those things, he saw that the green patch in his hand had now become completely brown, it looked very similar to the bark in front of him.

John decided to stop trying to "Absorb" trees, he felt that the plant would do something that he couldn't undo if this continues.
