A mess

In Star Town

Lila slumped on the ground and buried her face in her arms. So Rikka-san is pregnant. I suspected it only because I was paranoid. But her husband didn't have to know that. She managed to remain calm the entire time. He didn't notice did he? Her thoughts broke off when somebody grabbed her arm and pulled her to her feet.

"Kiryu, are you stalking me?"

Kiryu nodded. "I am." He brushed his forehead against hers. "Are you okay?"

"Rikka-san is pregnant."

"Was this due to what happened a few months back?"

"Yes."

Kiryu paused but nodded. For a moment he didn't say anything before he pulled her into his arms. "You did very well. But you can cry Lila, its okay to cry."

"Have you calmed down?" Kiryu ran his hands through her back.

Lila suddenly realized what happened and felt self-conscious. What is she doing crying in front of him and getting so close like this? She tried to pull away but Kiryu wouldn't let her go.

"Your still as stupid as before."

"There you go again."

Kiryu nodded. "Yeah. But do you understand why I call you stupid? I know you want to act sensible and mature but we all know how you feel. Lila you're not okay with Shinozaki having Harukas child. So don't pretend."

An awkward burst of laughter passed her lips when she heard what he said. Kiryu is so blunt, but he understands - of course he did. She wondered if Haruka noticed it too. Did her husband realize she was only pretending? Did he notice her voice faltering?

"Call him again."

Lila blinked when she heard Kiryus suggestion. "I cant, Im a mess."

"Lila."

She bit her lip. "I don't want to see him now."

"Don't be stubborn about this. You missed him a lot. You want to talk to him all the time."

She hates this part of Kiryu, she hates how he understands her far better than she does herself. How come? How come he understands her so well? Lila mustered some strength and pulled away from him.

She started to walk away but she heard Kiryu following her.

"I told you to leave me alone."

"I just happen to be going this way."

Lila angrily turned to him. "Even if you're right what good will it do? This isn't the time for me to be sulking and throwing tantrums. Right now the world is falling apart--"

"This is exactly why you should say it. So far nothing serious has happened. Both Haruka and you are alive despite how bad the circumstances are. But if you leave this be and something happens what will you do then?"

Regrets huh? Kiryu is one to talk. He is a huge hypocrite. But he is right, of course he is. "I will call him after this."

Kiryu nodded. "Good girl, then lets get going. You came here to investigate didn't you? The missing people case."

It surprised her how quickly Kiryu changed gears. But she supposes this is expected too. For the past few months, no the past year Kiryu has dealt with these issues. While she was living a peaceful life in Light town, and London. Kiryu went through all of this pain and hardship alone. How did he feel as he watched his comrades go crazy one by one? It must have been hard for him.

Lila glanced over at Kiryu who was explaining the terrain up ahead. She nodded and occasionally said a few things, but she was distracted. The thing with Haruka aside she was curious about Kiryu. Exactly how did he live his life the past year? He never told her.

Their mutual friends wouldn't tell her anything either, so it was difficult for her to get any new information.

"You know I dont think thats Harukas child."

Lila blinked when she heard those words. Why does he seem so certain?

"I mean Shinozaki slept with Zane right?"

At that comment her eyes widened. Indeed something like that happened. Haruka was telling her then how Zane changed targets.

They argued then too because she pointed out that Zane did that only because he saw how much Haruka cared for Rikka.

Lila sighs deeply. Whenever I look back at my memories from the past year or so, there are too many unreasonable moments. Why did I waste all that time arguing with him? If I knew this would happen I would have sucked it up and just coped with the pain.

"Do you think its Zanes?"

Kiryu nodded. "Most likely. I mean think about it. Haruka was under the influence of those drugs then and so was Shinozaki. According to the investigation on those drugs there is a harmful side affect."

Lila tilted her head puzzled. "Side affect?"

"I'm no good with science either so I will give you a vague explanation here. The drug itself is supposed to trigger a mutation in your genetics so the average person can have super powers. So what if somebody who already has powers sleeps with another person?"

"Ah, it wont work?"

Kiryu nodded. "Something like that, not only will the drug not do its job but it also will cause negative side effects." He trailed off. "False pregnancy?"

Eh?

"That's also another thing we should consider."

False pregnancy? Indeed the drug does have that severe hallucination effect but what are the chances? But her husband only just found out. So much time has passed since he started to live with Rikka. It is impossible that she did not show any signs till now.

Rikka-san is a normal person too. If she was actually pregnant then by now it would show.

The more she thought about it, the more that theory seemed to work. It can't be, but if it is then it frees Haruka of any obligation he has toward her.

She shook her head. Don't think about this now. Lila wasnt looking forward to calling Haruka back later, she already knew how the conversation would end up. But Kiryu definitely won't go until he hears the call. Besides she has another problem to deal with.

You spend a lot of time going on patrol and accepting jobs recently.

Shichiro is getting suspicious. She knew the same went for the other guys too but they are too polite to say anything.

The next few minutes are silent and Lila has time to ponder on her thoughts. The silence between Kiryu and her isn't uncomfortable, but she feels restless whenever he doesn't say anything. When he is quiet she no longer knew what he was thinking.

No matter how many years she has known this person, he still leaves her feeling like a mess. He reminds her of a puzzle, a never ending puzzle. She remembers as a child she liked puzzles a lot but there was one at home where she kept finding missing pieces for, even though the picture is supposedly complete.
