Make new memories

Haruka didn't see anything wrong with what he did, but he saw that Kouta was staring with shocked eyes.

"Uh Kouta-kun?"

"Is that really your husband, Lila?"

"Yeah, Karashima Haruka in the flesh."

"Isn't he a bit too docile--"

"I didn't do anything!"

"Is that what amnesia does to people? He is like a completely different person."

Haruka carefully observed the two. For some reason, he felt unpleasant and wanted to drag her away.

Before he could even think that, Lila walked back over to him and stared at him, she extended her hand out and cupped his cheeks. "You are my husband, right?"

"I believe so."

'Why is she saying that even with her memories back?' What an unusual girl.

Still, for her to be this close to him is a bit dangerous. Haruka didn't know what got into him, but before he knew it, he had kissed her.

Lila's entire face was a lovely shade of red. She seemed shy after the kiss and powerless since she slumped her face in his arms.

"Yeah, that's him, alright."

"Kanehera Kouta, right? Lila's told me about you."

'A little bit anyway.' Haruka didn't have much to talk about with his wife, so they spoke about her life more.

The only memories his wife lost were the past year, so their situation was very different. She still remembered those who cared for her and have many fond memories. But as for him, he lost everything.

Haruka stared at the man deeply. From his conversation with his wife, it seems they do know each other, but why doesn't he remember?

"You won't have many memories of me; we didn't speak much."

"Ah."

"..I have a sister."

Kouta glanced over at Lila as though he had asked for her approval before continuing.

"You were closer to her."

Haruka blinked at those words. Was he close to another woman? Although his memories were still blurry, for some reason, he was under the impression that he wasn't the type to get close to random women.

The blonde-haired man looked troubled. "Lila, this is a bit difficult."

"Right? Even though you acted so confident about making him remember, if you look at him like this, it is hard."

"Gah, I can't think straight. He is behaving way too different. If it were in the past, I would have just said it."

"Then maybe you should sleep it off."

Kouta nodded. "Right, I will come back tomorrow."

At that comment, Haruka spoke up. "There are plenty of guest rooms. You can stay here for the night."

He still doesn't have a clear situation of what is happening outside. But he got a glimpse of it the other day when somebody tried to break in. Right now, they are not living in peaceful times.

"Then I will take you up on that offer."

....

A few hours went by, Haruka didn't know how he managed to sleep since he felt very restless. When Lila left to inform the others about Kanehera Kouta staying, the blonde-haired man told him.

'Haruka-san, I know remaining ignorant will be better for you. You can recreate your memories with Lila-san this way. But I want you to remember for my sister's sake since she was also very important to you.'

Kanehera, Kanehera- the surname indeed felt familiar to him. Haruka wanted to ask Kanehera Kouta his sister's name.

The blonde-haired man mentioned her the entire time. He neglected to say the name. Was that deliberate? Would he have said it if Lila wasn't around?

He already knew that his wife didn't want him to remember. He sighed deeply when he realized that she was no longer in his arms. Did she sneak off to talk to that guy again?

Haruka shook his head.'I need to stop feeling so bitter. That person seems to be very important to her.' Moreover, that guy has also shown concern for him. He quickly left the room, hoping to find her, but even after he wandered around the mansion, he couldn't find her.

He hesitantly looked towards the back door and noticed it was slightly open.

One of the rules they drilled into his head since coming here was not to go outside, but it should be okay, right? Haruka opened the doorknob and found her immediately. She was sitting on the steps with a dazed look on her face.

Haruka observed his surroundings. 'This is the first time I have been outside since coming here.' He didn't know what he was expecting to see, grey-colored skies, an unusually red color large moon. The grass in the garden looked terrible, and everything else seemed to have faded color.

If the garden looks like this, then he wonders what the rest looks beyond those tall walls.

"Hey, my wife."

"Ah, you couldn't sleep?"

Haruka pulled her into his arms. "I missed your warmth."

"Mmm, sorry, I wanted to look at the stars for a bit." Her gaze fell on the sky. "Even though the situation is like this now, the stars are still beautiful."

'But you're prettier.' Haruka stopped himself from saying such things. He wants to be more confident when complimenting her, but he can't do that for some reason. He hesitantly got closer and leaned forward, but she suddenly drew back.

"Sorry--do you not want me to kiss you?"

Was that the wrong move?

Her gaze softened, and she shook her head. "I just think this is nice. Things were a bit stressful for a while. When we last saw each other, it was very awkward. So the fact that I can see you and spend time with you peacefully is very nice."

Is that how it was? His thoughts broke off when he felt her rest her head on his shoulders.

"Do you not want me to get my memories back?"

"Yes."

'I didn't think she would be so blunt about it.' Then again, she mentioned something like that earlier. When Haruka thought of the earlier events, he couldn't help but feel even more attached to her. It was the first time since he came here that she has spoken honestly like that.

It was good that her friend came; otherwise, he wouldn't know how to face her. The entire time in the kitchen, he was in deep thought. Ever since he came here, Haruka didn't know what to do.

The people here act very awkwardly around him, other than that scientist guy who makes things explode. The others treat him oddly.

Haruka understood the reason being his wife. There was a reason why they separated for so long. She said that it was her fault, but he didn't believe that for one second. Even if she thinks it was her fault, her friends have a different impression.

"Haruka, you don't want to make new memories with me?"

"I understand that I still love you even without memories. But for me to lose all the memories of how we met and how I fell in love with you is very painful." Haruka admitted.

He wants to remember why he feels so strongly about her. Why is she so important to him?

"I don't want you to remember," Lila mumbled. "Cant you go along with my wish?"

It is hard for him to say no if she puts it that way. Haruka leaned forward and kissed her forehead softly. "Alright, I understand."

He should keep that conversation with Kanehera Kouta a secret then since it will only upset her.
