A Secret

For a second, my mind drifted.

What if Asu sees such a disgusting sight? Or worse, what if these dogs decide to approach her?

Just the thought horrified me.

"What'cha lookin' at?" One of the men, who seemed to be the fittest of the group and grew a long, shaggy brown beard, interrupted my thoughts.

I turned to him.

These people were undoubtedly drunk and probably could not recognize what they were dealing with.

I looked the guy in the eye and echoed. "What are you looking at?"

My low voice was cool, and like a razor, it cut through his confidence and grandeur.

Now, he looked terrified, and his yellow, sickly complexion became white as if he had seen a ghost.

Having not comprehended what was happening, the man's companions nudged him. "Hey, what's wrong, man?"

Glued to his position, he mumbled something inaudible, and the others urged him to say it louder.

But before the guy could say a thing, I swept my smiling gaze over the rest of the gangsters, my purple orbs shining eerily.

Now, he needn't say a thing. The rest of the group froze in horror, having seemingly lost the ability to move nor speak.

For a second, time seemed to stop. And for the record, I hadn't cast a spell or anything—this was just the effect of the aura my eyes exude.

"LANCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE?! I HAVE ICE-CREAMMMMMMMMMMM!"

Hearing the familiar voice, I stopped and immediately turned around. My eyes had gone back to normal, facing her worried blues.

She carried a box that contained 5 different ice creams in different flavors, rushing over with her curly blonde hair flying behind her.

Asu? Ah… that's good. Thank goodness she came back safe.

But… she didn't see that, right? And she didn't hear my words either, right?

I glanced nervously at her, waiting for her next actions and her words that would decide my fate.

But her next words blew my thoughts away.

"HEYYY! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO MY FRIEND, HEH?" She stormed over, her fury visible even under her mask.

I had never seen Asu scream so loudly nor be so angry at someone. In fact, I think it's been decades since she had stomped so loudly.

"WHAT?! I CAN'T HEAR YOU! WAIT. WERE YOU GONNA G—" I saw her raise one of the ice cream cones menacingly as she continued to shout at the goons.

At first, I was stunned, unable to comprehend her words. But upon understanding her intentions, I could hardly hold back my laughter, and I silently cheered her on.

Who would've imagined that the goddess of Golden Rose Academy would personally attack a mob of drunks using ice cream?

Alas, the situation I had wished for did not happen.

Before she could throw the cone, Asu suddenly stopped in place and soon lowered the cone.

Eh?

Why—

I whipped my head around, only to see the drunkards gone. I sighed with amusement as I realized what had occurred.
