The Other Teachers

The next morning, Kyle returned to the training field. He was introduced to even more crazy training. After finishing the exercises; he went to his next class with Dr. Harvey Heller.

The waypoint showed him the way to what looked to Kyle more like a research center than a doctor's office.

When he entered the building, a new map appeared inside. The entire area was dark until he started exploring.

Areas covered in black would be revealed the more he walked through the building.

There were some areas that seemed like chemistry labs, other areas reminded him of Professor Snape's potions class from Harry Potter.

Examination rooms, anatomy rooms, and a pill making factory were all explored by Kyle. He didn't find Dr. Heller on the bottom floor, so he went upstairs to search.

The second floor was mostly filled with offices and he saw many people dragging themselves in to begin their day once more.

After asking around, he was led to Dr. Heller's office and sat in a chair at the desk. He waited for nearly forty-five minutes before Dr. Heller showed up.

Without saying a word to Kyle, he went into a room connected to the office. Kyle saw what looked like a library. Dr. Heller returned with an armful of books.

He placed them in front of Kyle.

<> he said.

Kyle started to read through the books and after a few minutes, Dr. Heller returned to his office carrying a tray of things.

There was an assortment of pills packed away in a pillbox. Each square had three different pills in them and there were enough pills for someone to take for about two weeks. There was also a clear bottle with a bright yellow liquid.

<

I will quiz you every time you come to see me, and when you have reached a certain level of mastery; we will move on to something else.>> His helmet also left an electronic buzz in the air after he finished talking.

Dr. Heller left after saying these words. Kyle spent the entire day reading. After eight hours of reading, he went back to the training field and did his evening workout. He took his pills as Dr. Heller instructed.

The next morning he went to Lady Galgaba's workshop after his morning workout. He was not expecting the sight that appeared before him.

The shop was a blend of pragmatism and surrealism. It was like a computer was having an acid trip. There were diagrams and strange symbols everywhere.

He suddenly felt a presence and saw Lady Galgaba standing in the doorway of a connecting room. She was examining him as carefully as he was looking at the things in her place.

"What do you think?" she asked as a charming smile bloomed.

"I don't know, some of it looks really artsy and some of it looks like a blueprint or a circuit board," he commented.

"Formations, arrays, and the things we make from them are a combination of extreme logic and art. Some would call formation and array creation a science and other art. I believe they are a combination of both."

She continued to watch Kyle who was carefully examining one of her 'circuit boards.' He was using his energy to heighten his senses, specifically his eyesight.

The closer he looked at the lines the more he understood the lines were pathways that both energy and information could flow through.

He was extremely fascinated by it. Then, he turned to a piece of art next to it. He realized the core of this art piece had a core design exactly like the 'circuit board' he just examined.

The differences were strange marks that created new branches of designs he didn't understand.

"I think you'll be very good in formations. You look like someone with talent," Lady Galgaba said.

Kyle was startled by her comment. He was just looking at the things in her shop.

"Why do you think I have a talent for this, none of my other teachers said I had talent," he said.

"The reason you were chosen to be taught is that you have a great deal of talent to master all of the subjects we have to teach you.

However, the way you are looking so carefully at my formations and designs, it's like you're studying it carefully. You are intrigued by it. That indicates a special talent,"

Lady Galgaba was smiling gently at Kyle. He felt a little awkward by the situation, so he stopped looking at the designs and waited for instructions from his teacher.

"Very well, let's get started," she said. She was a little disappointed he stopped looking at the diagrams, but she understood she made him feel awkward.

"Follow me," she said as she turned around. Kyle followed behind her and looked at the things around him. They passed through several rooms, and he noticed one room was filled with different types of materials.

"I teach two things, Formations, and Arrays. The two are conceptually the same but one is permanent. Formations require special planning and materials; while arrays can be created on the fly or used in things like weapon and pill making.

Before you can begin building formations and arrays you need background knowledge on the principles and basic diagrams of the field." She twirled on the spot; they were in a large room filled with books.

"Let me guess, my training starts with reading?" he asked.

"Very good! Everything starts with reading. Know a little to do a little. Know a lot to do a lot!"

She smiled broadly at her student. Kyle wasn't sure when it happened but there was now a pile of books in her hands. "Maybe she has a bag of holding or something?" he wondered to himself.

"Find a table and start reading. I'll be testing your knowledge at the beginning and end of every class. Make every second count!" She said as she disappeared from the room.
