Back to School

Dallas Intercessor Academy is the top High School in Texas for kids with superpowers. It was founded over thirty years before when there was an upsurge in kids with powers appearing.

Some of these children were the children of famous heroes. More of the kids with powers didn't have superhero parents. They were first-generation heroes.

They couldn't be kept in regular schools so President Ronald Reagan established the Exceptional Student Powers Act.

The ESPA was followed by the Super School System Tax Act. The SSSTA was used to fund new schools all over the United States for exception students.

It was to provide both public education and to train the exception students in the proper use of their powers.

These schools would be governed nationally by the U.S. Department of Super Education. Dallas Intercessor Academy fell under the jurisdiction of the Texas Department of Super Education on the state level.

For more than thirty years, the super education system has mostly succeeded. However, there have been some mishaps over the years.

One of those mishaps was walking onto the school grounds prior to the bell ringing. Everyone who was still outside waiting for the bell to ring saw Kyle Kane walk in with a cocky grin on his face.

He was wearing his school uniform and seemed very pleased with himself. No one had seen Kyle for a month and a half since he was suspended from school.

Kyle walked into the school and went to the Administration Office. There he was met by Principle Ambrose and Officer Cranston, secretaries and teachers who were coming in and out of the office.

"I'm back," Kyle announced to the room. Principle Ambrose clearly had mixed feelings about Kyle's return. It was written all over his face. Officer Cranston looked extra aggressive.

"We gonna have any trouble with you?" Officer Cranston asked.

"Nope, I can control my power now. Besides, even if I were to cause trouble, there isn't much you could do about it so stop trying to intimidate me," Kyle said.

"I see your attitude hasn't improved. You seem even more arrogant," Principle Ambrose said.

"Arrogant? Not arrogant I'm not intimidated by any of you like I used to be. If it were up to me I never would have returned to this school.

Anyway, what do I need to do to get out of this awkward situation?" Kyle asked.

"You need to treat us with more respect," Principle Ambrose said.

"You'll need to earn more of my respect first," Kyle didn't hold back. He became the epitome of that old Texas flag from the Battle of Gonzales.

On the flag there was the image of a cannon with a black star above it, and under the cannon were the words "Come and Take It." The defiance in the flag perfectly mirrored Kyle's feelings now.

He had fought many life and death battles over the last few months. He accomplished more in these last few months than probably anyone in this room had accomplished in their life.

His HUD even told him how strong the people here were. The strongest was the Principle who was a level 54 fighter.

Kyle's maximum power level was well over 70. Officer Cranston was only a level 20, but the secretary was surprisingly a level 47.

Principle Ambrose let out a long sigh of helplessness. Ever since Kyle's rant, he knew he failed this student and others in a number of ways. He made some changes in Kyle's absence.

Who knew if it would matter to Kyle. It was clear to the Principle that Kyle had turned hostile toward him. It had actually been his hope he could talk with Kyle privately and apologize to him.

When Kyle walked in, it just so happened Officer Cranston was there talking with him about something.

To Kyle, it looked like Principle Ambrose was threatening him. It was a misunderstanding.

"As long as you're here to study there's no problem. Let's get your paperwork filled out and then you can return to your classes," He said with a smile.

The bell rang while they were filling out the paperwork. Officer Cranston left a long time before to make sure the kids weren't causing any trouble.

The final bell rang and a couple of minutes later Kyle walked out of the office. As he walked toward class he saw Mrs. Krudge.

He could tell she was about to ask him why he was in the hallway after the bell rang. He simply held up his hand showing the pass as he continued to class.

Mrs. Krudge was surprised at how Kyle brushed past her without bothering to talk with her. She was too stunned to say anything as she watched him head into his first class.

When Kyle walked into class he was surprised to see a familiar face sitting next to his old desk. Kyle tossed the pass on Mr. Jenkin's desk and walked over to his desk excitedly.

"Lemonjello! What are you doing here?" Kyle asked his former roommate.

"I go to school here, doesn't it make sense that I'm here?" Lemonjello said with a laugh.

"Well, yeah, I didn't know you went to this school," Kyle said.

"I think that's why they made us roommates, you know, since we go to the same school," Lemonjello said.

"Wow, this is great!" Kyle was happy to see his friend. He sat down in his desk before noticing the other eyes in class staring at him.

For some there was anger, others surprise, and there were some who looked fearful.

Out of those present, the ones who caught his attention were Mighty Howler, Rena Riot, Platinum Blonde, and Sasquatch Girl.

These were the four students who went to the hospital when he saved King Fang in the training exercise.

Kyle got out of his chair and walked up to the four who were sitting next to each other.

"I'm sorry about before. I didn't mean to hurt any of you. I have spent the last month and a half seeing a doctor and training to fix the problems that didn't allow me to control my powers.

From now on, you won't have to worry about me hurting you. Once more, I apologize," Kyle said as he did a short bow to the four people.

The four students looked at him with a complicated look on their faces.
