Chapter 39

"Y-Your highness!" He stammered.

Alexis turned to look at Alastair who had a stiff smile on his face, he lifted a hand and placed it on her shoulder as he pulled her away from the neon headed man.

"My Mage and I are currently on some important business so please don't distract her. She's like a child who can easily get lost", his taunting words made Alexis role her eyes. She couldn't help but notice his emphasis on "my".

Jake nodded his head furiously and stepped back into the classroom he came from.

"I'm so sorry. Please enjoy your time here, Your highness", it was the last thing he said before he hurriedly scurried away. One might say he looked as if his life were at stake.

"Alastair", Alexis groaned while looking up at the man, "why are you acting like this?" She asked.

"Now, lets carry on the tour" he completely ignored her as he continued with Princess Felicia who quietly followed in tow.

Alexis was a bit used to getting ignored when others deemed it was convenient. But it still irritated her regardless, it didn't help that Jake had been her sole distraction from her thoughts of Alastair's marriage and why it bothered her so much.

The guide suddenly stopped with a gasp, "Mr Silver, I didn't know you were present today!" He cried and Alexis, who recognised the name leaned to where the tall bodies in front of her didn't obstruct her view.

"Your highness" she heard the familiar stiff voice.

"Mr Silver, Good Morning!" She said, her head poking out from Alastair's side.

"Ah Miss Mage, it's great seeing you again. I have to thank you for that tea, It really helped my cough. It's even a regular drink in our household now" he thanked her for the simple tea, even though it was something so easy to make and a common thing on Earth.

"I'm glad I could help", she replied, "but what are you doing here?" Alastair moved to the side so she didn't have to strain her neck anymore.

"Teaching of course, although I do it as a sort of hobby alongside my other duties", his answer was simple and Alexis nodded back.

"That's interesting", it was Alastair who spoke now, "Can I request something Mr Silver?"

"Anything your highness!"

"Please take good care of the students I sponsor", the humble plea coming from such notorious man turned any listening being's head.

Their perspective already making changes, and Alexis who noticed the behaviour smiled happily. She wasn't happy for herself, strangely enough, but for Alastair. The man who threatened to kill if she couldn't succeed in her task.

'Since when have I wanted him to just be happy?" She thought as she turned look at his confident figure.

"Of course, I shall do my best".

And then the tour continued until they saw every aspect of every building on the campus. The auditorium, the famous library, the big green house, the battle fields, the training basements. This was excluding the the classrooms, that amount was such a lot Alexis almost threw up.

"Since we're done with the tour of the school shall we go to the dormitories. Mr Bentley told me you would like to see the students you sponsored" the guide proposed and Alastair nodded in reply.

Contrary to Alexis, Princess Felicia was ecstatic about just about any aspect of the building, squealing as she clutched at Alastair's arm.

"Oh look that's the statue of your grandfather Constantine Kaedmen! After he first formed the empire!" She surveyed it like it was a rare gem, her eyes sparkled all the while.

Alastair would politely smile back and Alexis would throw her a look of annoyance. Her eyes would always settle on Felicias and Alastair's arms that seemed glued together.

When they finally came to the dorm room of the sponsored children, the guide went and called out the three students.

"Shin, Hans and Elios, the emperor has come to visit you".

Instantly after he spoke, a repetitive set of footsteps were heard, along with grunts and shouts of.

"Move I need my shoes!"

"Where is my tie?!"

"Shut up!"

Alexis chuckled at the sounds and received interested stares from all around her, Alastair asked first.

"Why are you laughing?" He furrowed his brow at her.

"Isn't it obvious?" Alexis replied as she stared at the door with an amused smile.

It wasn't.

The others only heard voices speak in the Eastern language which was not something that was easily understood, even Felicia and Alastair, who had been taught the language barely grasped it.

The door opened and three boys, sporting heads of white, blonde and bright pink stepped out. They were all neatly dressed and bowed politely.

"Your highness" they simultaneously said.

"Please stand, I have come to see if you're being treated fairly", Alastair words came out strangely. They sounded to be spoken with a heavy accent and he struggled to formulate proper words.

Alexis knit her brows with a frown as she glanced at him.

"Why are you speaking like that?" She asked interrupting him.

"I'm speaking in the Eastern language".

Alexis frowned even deeper.

'Wow... what a racist...'

"I'll just talk to them" she rolled her eyes and turned to the boys, "are you guys having an alright time here?" She asked and they nodded in return.

"Yes Miss Mage, we are treated fairly by the teachers", replied the white haired boy. He sported a tan complexion and when he smiled, the most adorable dimples appeared on his. She would've cooed, had it not been for the strange expression on his face. His eyes became a bit glassy, and he quickly wiped them.

"Why are you crying?"

"It's nothing" he shook his head, face wearing a beaming smile.

"I'd like you to know that we will ensure your stay is completely comfortable and that's on the emperors orders", Alastair looked stunned as he looked at Alexis who, unknowingly, spoke the Eastern language fluently.

He quickly concluded it was due to her mana, that was translating unknown words in her brain. And from the way she did it without a trace of smugness she seemed to have no idea it was happening.

'Amazing...' Alastair thought as he stared at her. Even he himself had to use a large amount of mana when he first came to her world to communicate with her, but to think she could easily translate just about anything without so much as just knowing it.

Princess Felicia sneered at the display. Her pride had already been shot down so many times by Alexis. Unbeknown to her, Alexis had no clue.

"When did she learn the language?" She asked Alastair, her icy voice matching her hair.

"She didn't".

"What does that?-", Felicia swallowed her words the moment she realised what was happening. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "There's no way", her voice shook as she spoke.

"Does that explain to you why I can't replace her", Alastair's words were her exact thoughts as she turned to him with a conflicted face.

"I- It does..." she bit her lips as if it was shattering of her pride, staring at Alexis who continued to speak to the boys easily. "I never stood a chance to begin with. I'm sorry I ever proposed to be your royal mage".
