Chapter 62

After that, Alastair was dragged off despite the scowl on his face.

"I've told you Enflada, I feel no attraction to elves", he complained right before he left.

"Then you are clearly not a man" was Joshuas scolding, that Alexis just barely made out as she sat against the dressing tables chair.

She slumped back with a dazed face, her body heating up in an unfamiliar way as she recalled what happened.

'W-Was I going to kiss?'-

Her face burned deeper and she covered it, peaking at her reaction displayed on the mirror through her fingers. It was hard to tell whether she actually was blushing or the redness was from the terribly handled skin on her face.

But she knew what it was. The way her body heated up, her hormones going crazy.

She rushed to the window, pushing it open and breathed in the cool summer air that wafted in. She didn't realise that something was missing, her hands were both freely outstretched to the outside air in an attempt to cool her body down.

The letter that once was, no longer present and she didn't realise until she walked outside with Rosy trailing behind her and spotted familiar violet eyes. She gasped.

'The letter!'

Before Dwayne could say anything to her she rushed back in, tracing her steps while asking Rosy if she dropped anything. The dwarf shook her head, her keen eyesight made it impossible to make such a mistake.

Alexis rushed to the room. Bursting the door open with a wide eyes expression. Her eyes scanned the room.

Nothing.

No letter.

Alexis fell to her knees in despair. Her face drooped downwards as her mental breakdown started.

'What have I done? Why can't I be smarter? This is why I failed college!' And she sat down and had a mini cry session as one should when you're overwhelmed by your own stupidity.

She didn't notice the footsteps that approached her, until a hand patted her head and she jolted, turning back in alarm.

She relaxed when she saw the scumbag prince, he wouldn't be a problem to deal with. But, why did he look so worried?

"Alexis? What the matter?" He crouched down next to her, the hands on her shoulder was gentle, comforting if she allowed it, but she didn't. She could never.

"Nothing".

"But you're so pale?" He continued, following her as she got up and dusted her dress down.

"I'm fine".

"No. You're not. I might seem like a mysterious alluring man Alexis but I actually care about people".

Alexis threw him a glare.

"Who would've guessed", she muttered, sarcasm dripping off each word as she passed him to leave the room.

He grasped her arm before she did and gingerly closed the door. Shooting her a 'keep quiet' look.

"Well, I came to see you about that letter" he whispered.

'Oh great'.

"Now is not a good time Dwayne" she replied while rolling her eyes and opening the door again to leave. This time she left uninterrupted.

Dwayne stared at where she left with surprised look. His usually pale cheeks were stained with pink, his hands reaching for his mouth.

"Dwayne?" He repeated.

It was his name of course, but he rarely heard it from someone who wasn't his family. It was always prince Dwayne or just your highness. It was never just Dwayne.

He felt it strangely nice and refreshing. A strange unfamiliar feeling in his stomach as he recalled how she said his name so easily.

And then something stranger happened. Something that never happened randomly or out of nowhere.

His heart beat hard for a split second. It wasn't painful or excruciating, but weird and a bit uncomfortable.

'I'll have to see the Doctor tonight' he concluded and then left, going back to his business.

"Your highness? Isn't that?"-

"Not a word Enflada".

Alastair stared at the letter which he went to such desperate means to attain. He hadn't forgotten about it. How could he.

'Not in my palace' he narrowed his eyes as he opened the letter. There was nothing strange attached to it. No love spell, or an attack magic.

No magic at all.

He frowned. This made him feel even more uncomfortable. It further proved that this was what he hoped wasn't.

The only thing left to check would be the contents.

He ignored the judging look he received from Joshua. And he paid no mind to Agathus who 'tsk'ed from his stationary position.

He knew full well it was despicable. To steal the love letter of the woman who- 'no- this isn't a love letter'.

His denial was seen through by his two companions who awaited the truth. It wasn't going to be revealed because soon Alexis' unusually timid head appear between the doors of his office, looking guiltiest than ever.

Alastair hid the letter the moment he sensed her and smiled at her arrival, he was good at faking emotions and despite knowing that well he still feared that he might've screwed up somewhere along his lips.

Alexis didn't notice and approached him softly, a bit reluctantly, like a misbehaving child.

"Alexis, what brings you here on this fine evening? Did you have dinner?" He felt sweat build up behind neck.

'Am I trying too hard?' He worried.

"… yes, I had dinner. It was delicious." She sullenly replied.

"That's good to hear. So… what brings you here?" He asked again.

She lifted her head, finally making eye contact and revealing her nervous face. Tremors were visible along her body. She looked terribly frightened, so much Alastair almost forgot about the letter, until she mentioned it.

"Remember that letter from earlier?" She spoke, slow and steadily.

Alastair nodded slowly, grasp on the letter tightening.

"Well… it was what I wanted to speak about when I came by before".

Alastair's hand further crumbled the letter.

"But then that lady was here so I had to leave and it's not something that I can say in front of other people. It probably wouldn't be taken too well".

At this point Alastair doubted that he could read the letter. It was a question as to whether or not it was still in one piece.

"I realised that your family is planning to sabotage your birthday".
