Chapter 67

His expression was pained as he glanced at the wrapped wound on her stomach. It didn't matter how much they tried to heal it. It wouldn't heal.

The sword that stabbed her was embedded with a magic nullifying spell. It would've killed her if that witch hadn't cured her.

Alastair grit his teeth as he recalled the masked figure, the man beneath the mask. Shane Ainsley. He had been jailed for thievery and revolting against humans.

Alastair grit his teeth, 'someone so dangerous on the loose like this means trouble is coming'.

He was jailed for a long while and since Alastair was in control of that, he planned for it to be indefinitely. He had took too many lives to be let out to wonder.

"Alexis", he brushed the hair out of her face with a sigh, "why do I always get you into dangerous situations?", he felt depressed at what he planned next.

But, he sighed at her state.

'It's for the best'.

Alexis heard the tweets of birds singing in her ears, the sun shone painfully on her face and she scrunched up her face in retaliation.

"Angela? Can you close the curtains?" She croaked.

She was met with silence.

"Rosy?"

Again nothing was heard except the constant flutter of wings. She almost groaned at the familiar sound that she hated. But before she cursed the innocent disease ridden things she realised something.

'Wait? Wings?' She cracked open her eyes to a familiar room in confusion.

Her alarm clock went off seconds after she woke up, she jumped at the sound that she wasn't used to anymore.

"What?" She jumped out of bed, rushing to her window, looking at the view she had been stuck with for three years. The bird that sat on her window sill flew of in a flutter of feathers.

Normal birds, with wings and beaks.

Pigeons, plain and fat.

"What the hell?" She looked around the apartment building. Her brows furrowed just as she heard a ferocious knocking on her door.

"Hurry up Alexis! We can't be late for the first day!" Blair's voice shouted at her.

'First day? What's going on?' She noticed her phone buzzing with a notification and shakily grabbed it.

It's cover was the pink one she could've sworn she got rid of.

It was only when she caught sight of the date that she gasped.

9/9/2015

The knocking on the door didn't seize and she wobbled over to it. Her body shaking as she opened the familiar lock and met a face full of freckles.

"Finally! What took you so-? Woah, your face is so pale? And you're shaking? What's going are you sick?".

The girl who questioned this was definitely Blair. The familiar inappropriate anime beanie she wore on her first day atop her head.

"B-Blair? What do you mean by our first day?" She asked after calming herself down a bit.

"Of College, duh!"

"Of College?... but we already…" Alexis frowned glancing again at the date on her phone.

"You need to hurry, we'll be late!" Blair pestered again.

"I- I- Fine" Alexis left to get ready, ignoring the strangeness of her feelings.

As she jumped into the shower to wash up she questioned for one split second if maybe everything was a dream. Maybe she never failed College and she didn't meet-.

'No- No I definitely didn't dream that up. I got hungry and I felt pain and most of all-'

Alastair's bright eyes flashed in her mind. Her heart beat accelerated at the remembrance and she clutched it.

'It couldn't have been a dream'.

The College path was the same familiar steps and with each step Alexis gawked around at the familiarity. The college itself was exactly the same. The same large building, the familiar bored receptionist and the clutter of students who bustled in with tired faces.

When she sat down in her first class, that same professor walked in, the one from her first day. She noticed the students who sat around her, recognising all of them.

'This isn't a joke… this is real'. It dawned on her so suddenly sending her into shock.

She felt a headache surge forward, 'what happened to Alastair? Why am I here?'

She gripped her pencil tightly as the professor started his introduction. She knew it all, everything he said was so familiar it sent tremors down her spine. And nobody in the room seemed to notice.

'How did I get to bed? Did I fall asleep? No- No I was at the ball and then there was a commotion. Then what?'- a flash of a hooded head made her jolt.

"Shane!" She shouted out loud, her classmates turned to her in surprise with one answering.

"Yes?"

But Alexis didn't stay seated, she jumped out of her seat only for a hand to grab her arm and pull her towards them.

"You called me?" She stared at a handsome face that grinned at her in stunned silent. The eyes that twinkled in that way they do when someone knows you.

"W-What's going on?" She stuttered, her mouth gaping at him.

His height was definitely like Shane's and so was his voice, but she hadn't seen his face. He had light blue eyes, paired with platinum hair and a face that could compete with Alastairs.

"Excuse me, can you two in the back be quiet" came the voice of the professor and Alexis gave an understanding nod back as she sat down still facing Shane who sat behind her.

Her brows furrowed at him, eyes darting to Blair who shot her an inquiring look.

"Let's take this outside, shall we?" Shane whispered, an eerily polite smile on his face.
