Chapter 70

It was only minutes after when Alastair's stomach rumbled. It was the first time Alexis had seen him so embarrassed.

"Haha, let's get you something to eat" she helped him up, not noticing the looks of interest he threw the bathroom. He touched the shower head, flinching when a droplet of water fell on his hand.

'This place… This place is strange'.

Alexis entered her kitchen space which only consisted of a fridge, microwave, and a small stove.

Which was enough for her.

It was only when she opened her pantry full of cookies, pasta and various food tins that's she realised something.

'Will Alastair like any of this?' It was food he had probably never tasted and most of it was junk.

She glanced at her phone and suddenly remembered what she did when she had no food. She dialled the number and soon enough she opened her mouth with a refreshed smile.

"Can I get a large pepperoni pizza?" Her mouth salivating at the taste she craved back in the palace.

The man on the other line gave his affirmation after she gave him a truckload of toppings, Alastair turned away from the TV he observed to her with furrowed brows.

"I have no idea what you asked me for" he asked, taking note of the strange object she held to her ear.

"Ah yes the address is XX complex, XX room, you know the place right?" She threw Alastair a confused glance and shut the phone.

"I have no idea where that is? And I don't know how to cook." Alastair seemed to think she was still speaking to him.

"I was on the phone". Alexis pointed to her small iPhone.

"The phone? Then who were you speaking to?" Alastair's threw her perplexed glance. Wondering if Alexis had gone mad.

"The pizza man".

"I don't see anybody else here?" He asked, more worried.

"On the phone…" she sighed realising this world was different compared to Alastairs , "so we don't have magic here, instead of using magic we use devices like this to communicate from distances", she explained.

Alastair suddenly understood why Alexis had acted so strangely in the palace. The way she stared at everything in a childlike manner. It was because they really did came from two completely different worlds.

"So that isn't a magical device? Then how does it help you talk to other people?" He asked staring at it with interest.

Alexis didn't expect that and just stuttered, "I- I don't really know. It's complicated", she felt a blush of embarrassment when Alastair's face turned to disappointment.

He sighed.

"Well… it doesn't make it less fascinating…" he spoke. His hands touched the sofa Alexis' dad found in a garage sale. It was in relatively good condition and worked as a spare bed.

Alastair's sat on it, sinking in with a moan, "what is this? This sofa is softer than a bed". Alexis laughed at his naivety.

"Oh, wait till you get on the bed. You'll never be able to get up" she giggled sitting next to him and grabbing the TV remote in excitement.

"Let's see what's on Netflix…" she turned on the TV which made Alastair jump in fright. Alexis laughed mockingly at his surprise enjoying the unfamiliar side of him, "it's just the TV. You watch things on it when you're bored".

Her explanation was met with a sceptic face, but she continued anyway. Scrolling through the Netflix series' with a mouth frowning in distaste.

'How come none of the series I watch are here? Oh wait- I'm not in 2019. Now that I think about it, why am I here?' She glanced at Alastair who was looking at the TV with a weirded out expression.

"What is this? Are those people in there? Does everyone wear clothes like you?" He asked looking a bit distraught.

"Yeah. Alastair can I ask you something?"

"You better do it fast Alexis, because I have so many things to ask you", he threw her a half serious-half joking smile.

She returned it with a snort and answered, "why am I here? In this time zone?" She asked.

"What do you mean?"

"I've been taken three years in the past. When I first started my course", she glanced around.

Alastair made a thoughtful face. He tried to sum up an answer that might explain why.

"I see. Maybe you desired to come back here. The person who bought you here was that Ainsley bastard, Shane Ainsley. He doesn't know a thing about this world so he came here relying on you for that. And you bought him here, to this timeline. Did you want to come here badly?" He asked, his voice softened a bit despite his clenched fists.

"I did. But enough about me. Let's talk about Shane. I met him. He told me about Vampires being heavily discriminated against and that he wanted to dominate humans in retaliation. Is it true? About the vampires I mean?" Her mind was focused on getting to the bottom of this mystery.

Alastair gave a grim frown, his brow twitched as he glanced away from her.

"It's true. Even magical creatures don't face as much discrimination as the Vampires do", he seemed ashamed of himself. Or his origins anyway.

"Why is that? Because they drink human blood?" Alexis asked and was met with Alastair's taken aback face.

"B-Blood? Where did you get that idea?" He laughed at the absurdity much to Alexis' embarrassment.

"Then what is it?"

"They take mana from people. But, they tend to visit humans at night when they sleep and take snippets of their energy. It doesn't do them any harm since it's waste that would normally disappear in the morning. The reason people don't like Vampires is because they are the masters of shadow magic", he answered, he played with her hair. The amused smile on his face still lingering.

"Oh that's why I couldn't use shadow magic on him…" she muttered.

Alastair's demeanour changed completely as his head snapped towards her. She flinched at his sudden movement, meeting his wide eyes with scared ones.

"You used shadow magic on him!" He grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him with frightful expression.

"I- I- did it on impulse. I didn't mean to!" She remembered how he asked her not to use it and almost cursed at her own stupidity.

"No. You silly fool. That means this whole time he's been"-

"That's right. I've been listening this whole time", interrupted Shane's unexpected voice. Alexis and Alastair's head jolted towards him.

Alastair seemed to already anticipate this and glare at him.

"You. I don't care what kind of baggage you're carrying, but I won't let you go unscathed!" He jumped off the couch, standing metres away from Shane who leaned on the kitchen counter without a care.

Before more words could be spoken a knock sounded out against the door.

"Pizza Delivery!"
