Chapter 18: Noisy Staff

A young girl's voice reverberated in my mind.
//But youre a girl, I don't have interest on girls//
My eye brow twitched at her words
//I like huge men, with muscles and abs, They should also be good looking and taller than me//
The words sounded ridiculous, and unbelievable. If it wasn't for the wiggling staff in front of me, I would have seriously doubted my sanity!
//They also have to be- Hey! where are you going? are you leaving me?!//
I turned my back from the noisy staff and walked out of the store but the floating staff blocked my way
//Are you just gonna leave me after waking me up? how rude! I'm disliking you more!//
The staff even created a small thunder cloud above it that pours down rain making it look angry. I rubbed my eyes for a second and opened them once again but the same sight greeted me. I might actually have gone crazy. I just avoided the floating staff and went straight to the door without looking back.

I did not listen any further and just walked towards the mini market to gather food and stored them in one of the spatial dimension ring.
//Oh, what did you do here? I can feel wind mana in the air, Holy- Did you kill all these people?!!! What a monster!//
"I do not even want to hear that from a talking staff" I mumbled while choosing food

"said the talking staff"

I did not reply to the staff anymore and walked towards the nearest house and cleaned myself
I wish there was a spell that can effortlessly clean my body

I just kept on ignoring the floating staff and continued with my business, Due to the cold treatment, the staff did not stop complaining.

After changing my clothes and putting over the cloak, I headed out of the house and found the slaves from the store room walk around the village, some of them saw me and nodded my way, some were frightened and avoided me. As I scan the crowd I found the children huddled in one corner of the street and was surrounded by skinny men.
I was planning to just go without a word but for some reason, instead of walking away, my feet dragged me towards their direction
"I will take my revenge on you!" One of the skinny men said while raising a rock
I just got there in time, but instead of a barrier my bare body received the blow

"Do not even think of touching these children" I said as I glare at the man, He flinched and ran away together with his 3 other companions.

The floating staff circled the huddled children, The children looked at the staff frighteningly.

I did not answer, it seems like the chatty staff is useful for once

I just rolled my eyes at her

A short and vivid memory crossed my mind, it was not mine, it was in the point of view of somebody. The important thing about the memory wasn't the people involved but the chant the person I'm seeing the eyes through is saying.
I immediately memorized the chant and chanted it in my mind, while pointing the staff to the children. It did not even take a minute when the children squirmed in pain.
"What the hell is happening?"
That is the pre-requisite of breaking the slave contract by force
The staff that is not in my hands anymore said
I just looked at the children as they suffer from the pain of terminating the slave contract. after a while, they lost consciousness, so I picked them up using my wind magic and told one of the women that I freed to take care of them. I also warned the others not to harm them in my absence, saying stuff like I will know if they do so.
The chatty staff said that the slave contract will be no more once they wake up and I confirmed it as well by looking at their necks which is now devoid of tattoos.
I was about to fly out of the village using the wind magic, It's more like I'm riding the wind than flying. One of the slaves I freed suddenly shouted out loud
"Savior with the moon's blessing, Please grant these lowly commoner your name" It was an old man with a frail body
I feel like cringing after hearing his words but despite that I still answered him
"My name is Anya" I said before turning my back from them.

I have never been more glad to hear the voice of this annoyingly chatty staff.
I stood up that moment and straightened myself
"Thank you" I said courteously
Hmp, At least you know how to be thankful

I was puzzled by the new notification, it rose up faster than I thought? I looked at the staff and realized that the chatty staff was actually what weebs call a tsundere!
"hey, are you okay? I saw you plummet to the ground" A middle aged man with a huge body, who is half naked, suddenly appeared from the bush behind me

I looked at the floating staff beside me and saw water flowing out of the staff head, Is she drooling?
"Oh? you're a mage?" The mysterious man said while looking at me and to the staff beside me
"Who are you?" I asked
"Oh, my bad, I should have introduced myself earlier, My name is Denise. I'm a knight from the Theodoreford empire. We are camped not too far from here, and I was training on that mountain when I saw you plummet to the ground, it seems like you ran out of mana. I tried to ran here as fast as I can to catch you but It seems like you do not need a man to catch you from falling" He said with a smile
I looked at where he pointed and found a tall mountain and calculated in my brain how far it might be, It is approximately 10 kilometres from us. Did he really ran that far? and arrived here that fast?!!
I looked at the man from head to toe, if he really did so, then that means, he's ridiculously fast!!!
"Don't look at me like I'm a monster, I have acceleration item right here" He said while raising his right hand to show me a bracelet made of beads that is producing a faint glow.
"How about you? Would you mind telling me your name young mage?" The man said
I removed my hood.
The moment I did so, The light from the rising sun reflected on my hair, making it look gold, rather than silver.
"My name is Anya, Do you mind escorting me back to the empire?"
The Knight named Denise just looked at me with dilated pupils, and a dumbfounded face.
