That Evil Smirk

Three years had passed. It was her last year of college. And her graduation ceremony was close. A lot new things happened during those passed years. Eric began to acknowledge her existence and stopped ignoring her - he would even talk to her normally without yelling. And these sudden changes made Adrienne, fall in love. It's been two years since she's on her unrequited love. She did not propose, expecting his reply to be harsh and hurtful. She still feared him. So she never dared. Maybe this is her fate. Having a one-sided love on your husband for life. He would never love her back. She wasn't meant for him, wasn't pretty enough or had the qualities of a wife. she could jus-

"Come on guys, hurry up. I'm starving!" Tanya exclaimed, beckoning them to follow her to the cafeteria. They both sat on a table nearby.

Adrienne turned around and saw the whole place to be empty. 'Are we only the ones?'. "Hey, why is there no.. ", she left it incomplete as she saw none beside her. "Guys.. ?" She stood up - searching for them, until she saw a red-head walking inside a classroom. "Leah!" She got closer and walked inside.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADRIENNE!" Everyone screamed out, making Adrienne flinch, wishing her - one by one as they started singing together. She stood on the centre, watching them.

She was delighted. As usual, she had forgotten her own birthday. "Thank you everyone~" She said, feeling grateful.

"Now hurry up. Cut the cake!" She began cutting it before blowing off the candles-making a wish. She couldn't believe she had become an adult. Time passes real quick and within a blink of an eye she was twenty-one. She can still remember her eighteenth year as if it was just yesterday. Getting married this young. What was her parents even thinking forcing an eighteen year old into an arranged marriage for money. Where they really her parents. 'Adrienne, how can you think of them that way. Have some manners.' Anyhow she was looking forward to working with Eric in his company. She wanted to proceed her ambition but her father would not allow nor her husband as she remembers his warning. She had to obey her father and get in one of the best company as an administrative assistant. None was better than Eric's. And she would love to work under him - being more than ready

"I'm home~" She gain back silence. "Bethany?" She called out to her new maid but there wasn't a reply. The entire hall was empty and dark. She found her phobia kicking in as she immediately moved to turn on the lights. All of a sudden, her family members emerged out of nowhere screaming-greeting her 'Happy birthday', as she got her breath back. This has been going on for the past two years-so she anticipated. She got dressed and walked downstairs, into the crowd. After the cake cutting the crowd became busy as the music played. Everyone was present except for Eric. He never was.

'What was I expecting anyways'

"Eric!" She heard Annabel calling out and turned, with a smile, to see Eric on the doorway but he wasn't alone which made her smile drop, furrowing her brows in confusion. Eric had brought some girl to his wife's birthday party. 'Who's she.. ?' Adrienne saw her clinging onto her husband, wearing an all revealing dress as she walked daringly, towards the crowd.

"Who is she?" Mrs Ann Johnson asked-reading Adrienne's mind.

"Ah. Let me introduce. This is Miss Camila, my executive assistant."

'Is that all?' She wondered as she saw her smirking towards Adrienne, getting on her nerves.

"Assistant?"

"Yea, she had been with me, ever since I started working on Prime." Adrienne saw Ann scanning her up and down before welcoming her.

"Well then.. Welcome 'Miss' Camila." Adrienne wasn't having it. She felt a ping of jealously as she watched them standing together.

"I don't like her." She turned to see Annabel beside her-glaring at his assistant. She then looked at Adrienne. "I sense an evil aura. I have seen her multiple times with him for various business meetings as his partner but I don't get, why he brought her on your.. " She stopped as she saw Adrienne's gloomy face. "Oh dear, I didn't mean to-"

"It's okay. I'm fine" With that she left, walking to the balcony-away from them. Eric saw her and walked closer but before he could reach over, he got dragged away by Camila.

Almost an hour passed by watching the glittery stars brightening the sky along with the moon. She imagined her Grandma and Miss Hannah together onto the sky-smiling at her. 'I miss you both so much..' Turning to the crowd, she saw the party still going on. She walked to her room, feeling tired after bidding goodnight to them. Passing each room, she came across Eric's and noticed his door to be, slightly opened. She walked closer and began to close it but halfway through she noticed something. She clasped her mouth with both her hands - eyes glistened - witnessing the scene in front.
