In a dimly light room, 10 people sat at a round table. These were all the upper echelons in the academy.
"So is it decided? These 29 people will be sorted into our genius class the S class?" A male spoke up, it was actually the principal of the academy. He had grey hair and a very long beard, add a hat and a staff and he becomes gandalf.
"Wait, i have another person to add." A sly voice said. It was a red haired lady, who wore and extremly revealing outfit. Her face was perfectly sculpted and her aura definitely spoke "seductress"
"Serena, you are the head of the fire department, stop fooling around!" The principal said sternly.
Serena pouted before reverting back to her seductive smile. She pressed a couple of buttons and another screen popped up.
It was actually Robert's video.
"As you can see, he made it to the third phase in the basic magic exam, this should qualify him for the S class." Serena said.
"He only managed to last 5 seconds before passing out, i believe the requirements for the S class are 10 seconds?." Another voice objected.
"Isn't it just a few seconds? You are too hard headed Department head Dofus. The fact that he exhaused his mana despite knowing the consequences shows his determination, I'm sure he will quickly improve in the S class." Serena said.
"It is a difference of a few seconds but there is miles apart of difference in talent between him and the other S class students." Dofus objected harshly. Dofus was the water department head. Just like their elements, he and Serena often clashed, incompatible like fire and water.
"Talent? Well, I suppose if you want to talk about talent. Watch carefully." Serena played the clip again and paused during the third phase.
"See that?" She asked.
"See what?" Dofus scoffed.
"You must be getting old Dofus, you're eyes are getting worse. See that? That blue glow. He actually managed to draw mana from the surroundings whilst maintaining his materialized mana. You should know how difficult it is to do that, even we are not able to do that. The fact that he is able to do that shows just how talented he is." Serena explained while sneering.
"This..." Dofus was speechless.
The principal nodded. "Then, may all the department heads take a vote."
"What? Where am I?" Robert woke up, seeing a white ceiling.
"Robert! Huhuhu! How could you have died? You still owe me a meal!" Oliver cries could be heard.
"Who the hell said I'm dead?" Robert snapped.
"What? You're not dead? Great!" Oliver wiped his tears.
Robert sat up. He had already recovered from the backlash. The mana in his body had already been naturally replenished.
When one was meditating, he would draw in mana. If one did not incorporate that mana into his body, the mana would leave soon. Robert had always reinforced his mana every time he meditated as such, even though the mana was sucked dry, his body naturally produced mana to fill in.
"You woke up just in time! The announcement for the classes are in just 20 minutes!" Oliver exclaimed.
Hearing the word announcement, Robert's heart pounded.
"I'm so scared, I didn't do very well in the basic magic exam." Oliver muttered.
"Wait, how long was I asleep for?" Robert asked.
"2 days." Oliver replied.
"The backlash is really so harsh, i really shouldn't do that ever again." Robert reprimanded himself.
"Hello." A meek voice greeted.
"Emilia!" Robert said in shock.
"She was very worried about you." Oliver told Robert.
"Thanks." Robert said to Emilia.
"How did you do for the exam? I doubt you ended up like me." Robert laughed good naturedly.
"Not bad." Emilia replied.
"We should get going now, there is a board specially designed to announce those who are going to be in the S class. I don't know what's the use of it, they can just send a notification through the student id." Oliver grumbled.
"It's for prestige." Nana walked in. "The people in the S class have a greater standing, naturally the school wants to publisize it to greaten their prestige."
"Senior!" Robert exclaimed.
"Let's go, we can't miss the announcement." Nana smiled.
The board was actually a bunch of holograms projected everywhere in the school.
The four of them sat in a cafeteria table and ordered some food for Robert who had not eaten at all during his coma.
He ate like a starved animal.
"Woah, slow down will you." Oliver nudged.
A hologram suddenly popped out on every single table of the cafeteria. It was a row of numbers from 1-30 with blanks beside each number.
"I know I have no chance but I hope you'll make it." Oliver patted Robert's back.
All of a sudden the blanks beside each number were filled with names.
Oliver and Robert's eyes immediately scanned for names.
"Robert! You made it!" Oliver exclaimed pointing at the Robert's name beside the number 30.
"Oh my god! I actually made it!" Robert shouted in glee.
"Congratulations!" Nana said.
"I guess it's just me and Emilia in the A class." Oliver sighed.
Emilia shook her head and pointed at the number 1 rank.
"1. Emilia Vin Aster"
"What the heck? You're number 1?" Oliver exclaimed. He and Robert did not even look at the top ranks, because they knew it was impossible for any of their names to be there.
"Brat! I clearly told you not to show off." Nana said sternly.
"I only finished the 3rd phase," emilia said innocently.
"Only?" Nana wanted to faint out of anger. Even lasting more than 15 seconds was already eye catching enough, Emilia went and finished the 3rd pase which lasted 30 seconds.
Meanwhile, Oliver was in a corner drawing voodoo cirles.
"Heavens, why are there such disparity between humans!" He cried.
