Nana: Just you

"Nice outfit," Jessica said.

I was wearing a pink retro jumpsuit with a white top underneath, and white tennis shoes.

Seeing Jessica in casual clothing was something else compared to the school uniform. Her style was tomboyish, a black V-neck, with grey sweats, black and white vans. She was natural today. And as I expected she was even prettier without makeup.

"Thanks! Your outfit is nice too," I said.

She smiled faintly, turning away from me. We walked into Kentland's beauty and a cheerful worker greeted us asking if we needed any help. Jessica dismisses the woman with a wave of her hand. Jessica grabbed hold of my hand dragging me to a display. She still had a hold of my hand and I didn't mind.

"Let's look for your foundation shade," She said as she looked over the bottles. There were so many different shades with different names.

Jessica looked at my face and back at the bottles. There were sample bottles out and she picked up three of the samples.

"I'll test them on your neck to find your right shade." She said.

"I thought you use your wrist for that."

"If you want to find your correct shade is best to test them on your neck." She said.

Jessica titles my head to the side, I feel her finger touched my neck. I trusted her, she was the beauty guru here.

"Hmm, this is your shade," Jessica said.

I straighten my head up and looked at the bottle of the foundation she was holding in front of me. I take it reading the label. It was a fair beige shade.

I thought that after the Foundation we were done but I was wrong. Jessica went back to the front of the store to grabbed a basket.

"Lipgloss is your best friend," Jessica said. "Which ones do you like?"

I look at the tubes of gloss, there were so many to choose I didn't know which to pick. I looked up at Jessica like she was knowing which one was the best for me.

"Help me," I mumbled. Jessica bends over to get a better look at the glosses. She picks up one showing it to me.

"What about pale baby pink?" She asked.

I take the tube from her looking at it. It was a pale pink gloss with glitter in it. "I like it," I said.

I let Jessica pick the other glosses too. then we moved to lipsticks, and eyeshadows, and other makeup stuff.

"I don't think I have enough for all this," I said as Jessica was taking everything out of the basket for the cashier to ring up.

"I got it." She said.

"No, we should put some things back."

"It's alright. Just think of this as a gift for our friendship." She said, pulling out her wallet from the pocket of her sweatpants.

"Your total is 140.67." The cashier said. I was about to tell the woman to take everything off but Jessica stepped in front of me.

After she paid for everything Jessica turned around with two pastel purple bags in her hands. When I offered to carry them she wouldn't let me. As we leave Kentland's. Jessica suggests we go to this café called Maid Bunnies café on the second floor of the mall. We took the escalator to the second floor, getting off, I follow behind Jessica as she leads us toward the Café. There were girls dressed in cute maid outfits, wearing bunny ears, handing out coupons. They greeted Jessica by her name. So I assumed she comes here often.

Maid Bunnies café was cute, with the different pastel colors, cute little bunny maid characters on the wall. We walked up to the glass countertop display that had varieties of cakes and pastries. There was a chalkboard menu hanging behind the counter listing the varieties of food and drinks in pretty curves handwriting.

"Get anything you want. I work here so I get a discount." Jessica said, from beside me.

I was caught off guard by Jessica saying she worked here. This café was extremely cutesy, She didn't seem like the type of girl that was into cutesy things. Now I'm imagining her in a cute maid outfit, and the thought of it makes me laugh.

I feel Jessica's hand on my head, tilting my head back that way I'm looking up at her. "What's funny, Nana?"

"—Oh..um nothing."

"Could it be that you're imagining me as a cute maid?" She wiggled her brows at me.

"Of course not!"

"Liar!" She said. "I don't wear a maid outfit. I wear a waiter's uniform. White dress shirt, a vest, a tie to match the color vest. I do wear the bunny ears though. "

"Why don't you wear the maid 's outfit?"

"They don't have one that fits me." She said. I looked around at the other maids. They were shorter in height compared to Jessica.

"If they did have one that fits you. Would you wear one?" I asked.

Jessica only smiled and let go of my head. "Let's order something." She said.

I got a strawberry cream croissant with vanilla milk tea, and Jessica had got a slice of strawberry cake with strawberry milk. I wanted to pay, but Jessica beat me to it and used her employee discount.

~~~
Jessica waited with me at the bus stop, we sat on the bench side by side. Jessica had her long legs stretched out and I stretched out mine to compare the difference between our legs.
"I think you would look cute in a maid's outfit," I said out the blue. I hear Jessica laugh. She placed her hand on my head resting it there.
"You think so?" She asked, ruffling my hair. She leaned over to me. "Do you really want to see me in one that bad?" Her tone was playful, for some reason my face heated up and I put some distance between us.
"—No! I just think you would look cute in one."
Jessica moved closer. "You know what?"
"What?"
"You would look cute in one too." She said. I looked over at Jessica and she winked at me.
"Shut up," I murmured. Even when Jessica moved closer to me. I didn't even bother moving over. "Can you do my makeup tomorrow?" I asked her.
"Yeah, do you want to come to my house? Or I come to yours?"
"I'll come to yours," I said.
Jessica hands me her phone. "Put in your number and I'll send you the location."
I take her phone adding my name and number. And handed her phone back. My phone started to ring. I reached into my jumper pocket pulling out my phone.
"Now you have my number," Jessica said.
I saved her number with her name with a bunny emoji. Remembering that she told me she wore the bunny ears at her job.
I smiled, I finally had someone else's number on my phone other than my parents.
"Your smile is pretty," Jessica said. She was leaning forward with her elbow on her leg, her face resting in the palm of her hand she was staring at me.
"Do you usually tell your friends they have pretty smiles?" I asked, wondering if she did.
"No." She said. "Just you."
