After eating breakfast and cleaning up we leave for the ceremony. After what just happened I start to doubt myself. Yes, I stood up to Marcus and feel good about it, but what comes after? Tobias is leaving, and though I want him to, I am going to miss him. After he's gone I'll be by myself for the next 3 years until my ceremony. Stuck with Marcus, where each hour feels like a day. Before we leave Marcus goes up to get something and Tobias starts whispering so Marcus won't hear.
"Ok, listen, Ro," Tobias whispers "Are you sure you're going to be OK? After what just happened, it's not going to be easy, I can stay."
"No!" I whisper back " If you stay he will have truly won. I might have fought against him now, but if you stay, it's over. You have.. to go"
"Ok. I'll do it for you though" he says
"Good," I say back.
By now Marcus comes down the stairs."Let's go," Marcus says angrily, paying no attention to Tobias and me.
We make it to the hub after about 10 minutes of walking. Inside everyone is seated with their faction and all you can see from a distance are giant groups of colors. Starting with the white Candor color scheme, ending at Dauntless black. Next to candor is Amity, then Erudite then Abnegation. We walk in and go straight to our seats in Abnegation. I wave to Ely and Hannah and they wave back. We find our seats and Marcus is still talking to the council members. Eventually, it starts. The representative of Erudite, Jeanine Matthews is hosting this year's ceremony.
"Ok, everyone please settle down," Jeanine asks. Erudite and Abnegation quiet down immediately, but it takes longer to make the rest of the factions do the same.
"Thank You," Jeanine says eventually, "Today is a day of new beginnings. Where the sons and daughters are given their own choice to the life they want to live. Not their parents choice"
I look over at Tobias and give him a small smile and nod. He does the same back.
"Ok let's get started, shall we?" Jeanine continues " First starting at Candor, Elizabeth Aarons" The first girl has light blonde hair and is wearing a white dress. She makes her way over to the bowls and cuts her hand with the knife. She puts her hand over the Erudite water. The blood from her hand drops in, finalizing her decision.
"Erudite" Jeanine states. The Erudite section is filled with quiet claps, and of course, Candor is filled with confused looks at one another, like always. Jeanine then continues calling names, until she comes across the one that matters to Tobias and me.
"Tobias Eaton"
