Ch 6

Before kai's dad went to jail, he would hit and scream at kai. Everyone in the neighborhood knew, but there wasn't much they could to. Finally, he pulled a knife on kai and cut the side of his neck. Kai somehow made it out alive and his dad went to prison. Sarah always covered the scar with henna, so kai didn't have to remember it. Knives always made him scare but he never told anyone because it would worry them.

Kai just sat in Liam's embrace. "I'm sorry I wasn't here to help." Liam mumbled. Liam heard little sniffles and felt tears. Liam hugged him tighter. "does it hurt that much? This is the first time I've seen you cry." Liam talked to kai in a soothing voice. "I'm going to the countryside this weekend to get more experience with larger animals." kai said. "Okay, stay safe. Oh, and the boys took pepper." Liam said. The bell rang a while ago, but Liam didn't notice. "We should head to class." Liam blushed. Kai was in his arms and had his arms around him too. Kai got up and wiped his tears. This reminded liam of kai as a cute, chubby, sad little boy. He smiled and grabbed kai's hand, walking to class. During the next break, Liam followed kai everywhere. When kai was just standing, Liam came up behind him and wrapped his hands around kai's neck and resting his head on kai's head.

Sammy and Beth were glaring at them. "Why is he so close to kai?" beth grumbled. Sammy wasn't mad at kai for some reason. She explained what happened earlier to beth. "They are kind of cute together." Beth sighed. "Maybe we should give up. they won't be interested in us anyway." Sammy said. Beth nodded in agreement.

"Liam, you're heavy." kai said. "Which farm are you visiting?" Liam asked. "I don't think it has an official name yet." Kai said. "Should I come with you?" Liam thought aloud. "NO! I mean... It would bore you." Kai lied.

"You brat! You are living an amazing life in the city and I'm stuck here." Kai's father went to the countryside to work on a farm after he was released. Every year, kai would visit him. Kai respected his dad because his mom loved him, but he still beat kai every year. He only went to his dad because he was scared that his dad would come to him if he didn't visit.

His dad threw a plate at his head. It broke, with large pieces now stuck in kai's neck. "Where's dinner?" he yelled. His hair was in a ponytail so the shards of the plate hit his neck. "Almost done." he said calmly. He added some salt and served his dad. "Go fed the animals. Tell the owners you are my son.

After going to the arcade with some friends, Liam started walking home. He pulled out his phone. 'How are you?' he texted kai. 'he's busy' someone texted back. 'who is this?' liam asked. 'his dad'. Liam frowned. Kai always did this, he would pick a random date to go see his dad so Liam couldn't stop him. 'thank you' Liam texted back and started running home.

After feeding the cows, kai walked over to the horses. The owners were there, looking very upset. "I'm Todd's son." Kai said. "Oh, you aren't the vet." the woman sighed. "what's wrong?" he asked. "One of our horses is in labor. Neither of them will make it if the vet doesn't come."she said. "let me take a look." kai said.

"i can save the baby." he explained. they let him do what he want since both of them could die. An hour later, he came out with the baby wrapped in a towel. "Thank you so much. They both would've died if you weren't here." the woman smiled. "I'm heading in. I need a shower." he sighed.

He cleaned up his dad's dishes, took a shower, and left for home at midnight. he used his long black hair to hide the scratches on his neck.

Liam was sitting on the couch in the dark waiting for kai. When kai turned on the lights he jumped. "Why are you here? it's 3 am. And don't scare me like that." Kai said. "Where did you go?" Liam asked. "The countryside. I helped a horse through labor, but she died before it was over. The bay is alive though." kai said. "Who were you visiting?" liam asked. "a man." kai said. Annoyed, Liam yelled "DID YOU VISIT YOUR DAD?" Kai's face went white and he felt sick. He was scared of Liam.

"W-well, I-i did visit my d-dad." kai stammered. He looked anywhere but at Liam. "S-sorry. I d-din't tell you b-because I d-didn't want you to w-worry." kai said, shoving his hands into his pockets so liam wouldn't see him fidgeting. Liam looked kai up and down. "I'm hungry." liam said. "I'll go cook something." kai rushed to the kitchen and started making food. Liam watched him from the couch. He got up and slowly walked over to kai and ran his hand through his hair. "You always put your hair in a ponytail when you cook." Liam said. kai started shaking. "I-it doesn't hurt." kai stammered. "you should be careful with injuries on your neck. I'll get the first aid kit. go sit on the couch." Liam sighed, tying up kai's hair. kai calmed down a bit, but he was still shaking a lot.
