Ch. 8

Kai

Liam ran out of the room after kissing me. I sat there in shocked silence, feeling my face heat up. "Hmm" I hummed. I thought he didn't like me like that. I got up and cleaned the kitchen. Liam would come back when he was ready to explain. Right?

The next day in school, I ate under the tree. Liam didn't talk to me so neither did I. He seemed fine when I saw him. He was just hanging out with his friends. Sarah went out of town for a few days so I was home alone. I finished the homework and fell asleep.

Liam

Kai is definitely mad at me. He didn't talk to me and he hasn't texted me either. What if he hates me now? Maybe I should call him or should I go to his house? There were so many thoughts. I finally walked over to his house. I knocked. "Hey, you could've just come in." he said. His hair was in a ponytail. He was cooking. We stood there in the awkward silence. The oven beeped and he went into the kitchen. I sat in a chair and watched him. His ears were red. Was he embarrassed? Does he like me too? Does he hate me? He finally came back over and pulled the hair tie out, letting his hair fall perfectly. "what's up?" he said. "Nothing, I just came to check on your cuts." I blushed. "Oh,okay." he sighed.

I cleaned his cuts, then he fell asleep. I picked him up and carried him to his bed. He kept losing weight. I went to the kitchen and made some food. He normally just ate box meals like ramen or other junk foods. I went to the store to buy stuff for a meal.

Just as I finished, kai came from his room. "Hey, I made some food." I gestured at the table. "Mm, smells good." he muttered, still a bit sleepy. "Hey, about yesterday," I started, "Hmmm?" he said in response. "Sorry." I muttered. "Oh," he sighed. Why was he being more vague than normal? But, he sounded disappointed. He looked sad. "Kai? what's wrong?" I asked. "N-nothing, let's eat." he said, sitting down. "Hey, tell me." I said. "You never tell me anything and it makes it hard. Why can't you just say whats on you mind?" I said. He looked so sad and I just wanted to hug him. So I did. "I like you kai, but you need to help me know how you feel, so just talk to me." I whispered. "I like you too." he said, so quietly that if it had been any louder I wouldn't have heard it.

Kai

It all went in a blur, Liam came to my house, he was upset, then we both confessed. Now we were eating the won ton soup he made. After that, he did the dishes then he came over and hugged me. We were lying on the couch and I fell asleep while in his warm embrace.

Liam

I carried kai to his bed again, but I got under the blanket with him, still hugging him tightly. We would graduate in a few months. What if this was all a dream? Maybe kai just said that because he didn't want to stop being friends. What if he felt like he was obligated to date me? Thousands of questions ran through my head and I didn't have any answers. I sighed and decided to just fall asleep and worry when I woke up.

I woke up before kai and made breakfast. He came down the stairs a bit later. He didn't look tired but alert. When he saw me he smiled and looked a bit more relaxed. "Get ready for school." I told him and he went back up the stairs. We would be okay for now. He looked happier and less troubled. As long as he's happy I'll be alright.
