Green

Prince Lucas wandered around the castle, depressed.

He got in an argument with that green-eyed boy and, for some reason, he felt really bad about it. It's not like he did much wrong. He just wanted to learn more about the boy. Sure, he was pushy and bossy and-

Okay, maybe he did a lot wrong. But how on Earth was he was supposed to track the boy down and apologize if he didn't know his name?

He groaned aloud as he turned the doorknob of his bedroom.

There in his room, he found a woman sitting on his bed. His eyes widened in shock and she turned to him with a smile.

"Oh, hello Prince Lucas!" She gushed, "I've been waiting for you, I'm Jenine Kcolb"

Oh god, it was his new fiancee.

The girl had stark white hair and skin nearly the same color. This was odd, seeing as she lived in a tribe, which he expected to be out in the sun a lot.

He walked over to her, "How did you get in my room?" he asked, sparing her the pleasantries.

She beamed, "Mr. Roth showed to your room. He gave me a tour of the castle as well. My castle is under construction right now, so I've been staying in the Western Kingdom for a while. I've been thinking of remodeling it just like this, but I'm not quite sure-"

"You have a castle?" Lucas asked, stopping her rambling, "I thought you were the princess of a tribe"

"Well we say 'tribe', but it's all very modernized now, you know," She said with the wave of her hand, "We keep the old titles like "chief" and whatnot, just out of respect for the real tribe of our ancestors. We're more like a mini-kingdom. It's so cute, you should come to visit before we get married, you know? It will be so much fun, let me tell you-"

"I think I'll pass," Lucas said

"Oh, I understand, you probably want to be surprised after our wedding, yes?" she nodded, her head bobbing quickly, "Oh, Lucas, I can't wait to be married to you"

"That makes one of us"

"I'm still not sure where the ceremony should take place," she wrapped her arms around his own and pulled him down next to her. She leaned on him affectionately as her strong scent of lavender invaded his nostrils.

"I was thinking of having it here since my castle might not be ready by then" she started, "But then again I might want it in the Northern Kingdom. Somewhere grander, no offense"

"Offense taken" He tried to get up, but was promptly pulled back down, harshly.

"Lucas, you have such a wonderful scent, has anyone ever told you?" She asked, eyelashes batting.

It was then that he noticed her eyes were bright pink. What an odd woman.

"Can't say I've ever been told that before" he answered

"Really?" She seemed pleased by the fact that he was even listening to her, "It so lovely. It's like a citrusy, lemony, delicious, fruity flavo-"

"It's probably just my essential oils" He answered, "I use when I'm in stressful situations. Like a when a crazy woman forces me into a marriage and traps me in my own room"

She laughed a fake laugh that pierced his ears horribly, "I didn't realize I would marry such a hot-headed prince. God, you're so adorable. How did I get so lucky?"

"How indeed"

He managed to sit up, sadly he brought her up with him, and she was still latched onto his arm happily. He cringed.

"So, back to the topic of the wedding," she said and stared at him with a look that sent some weird sensation into his stomach.

Not the "butterflies" and "I have a crush" sensation, but the "this person is doing inappropriate things to me in her head and it's making me very uncomfortable" sensation.

"I don't wanna wear white. My hair's white, my skin's white, I'm a little different from your average bride" and then off she went, talking about things Lucas couldn't give a single damn about. "You know what the problem is. My favorite color is green and I really wanted to wear green. But I think that doesn't really scream wedding you know? Like I feel like I should wear something else. Maybe black to contrast? Oh my god, we could have a reverse wedding. I will wear all black and you can wear all white, it'll make a statement! Oh my god, that's brilliant. What do you think?"

This woman was a princess? She was the future ruler of a tribe? God help them, honestly.

"I don't actually care," Lucas said, eyes darting around the room for something to get him out of this situation

"Oh, you stereotypical boy!" she laughed, "Even if you look like a girl, you're probably one of those manly men who don't care about dresses, huh?"

Lucas sucked his teeth indifferently at her comment, but didn't reply. His eyes fell to a envelope on his dresser.

It was pink, with Prince Lucas scrawled in neat cursive writing.

"DId you leave this for me?" Lucas asked, picking it up

"Oh I wish!" she laughed, looking at the letter, "My handwriting is terrible"

"Mine too," he said, absentmindedly, as he opened the envelope. Jenine went on again, talking about the wedding.

"So location," she said, "The Northern Kingdom, here, or somewhere else? I just think the Northern Kingdom is better here, you know? I don't know, it just doesn't seem right here, you know? It's just that..."

Lucas tuned her out as best as he could as he read the letter that was inside the envelope.

Dear Prince Lucas,

Hello, it's me. "Bobby"

I'm extremely sorry about what happened over breakfast this morning and I was completely unprofessional. We'll be spending a lot of time together from now on and I don't want us to start off on the wrong foot.

So, to make it up to you, I'm willing to introduce you to Chef Brent Lucas.

Come to his office tonight at 11 PM and please don't bring you're squealing fiancee with you (I met her this morning). See you there!

Sincerely,

An idiot from Louisiana

Lucas read the letter over and over, a smile forming on his face as his eyes flitted to the next word excitedly. He didn't know what made him more excited, the fact that the green-eyed boy wrote him this letter or the fact that he would meet Chef Brent Lucas. It was a win-win and his eyes and he didn't realize that his fiancee was still chattering non-stop in his ear.

"-and that's why I wanna wear black, you know? Compliments my hair a little better"

"Excuse me, Jenine" Lucas sais, standing up, "I'm going to go get a glass of water"

***

Brent was not expecting to see Lucas sitting in an empty kitchen with a glass of water in his hands. He didn't seem to notice Brent had even walked in, too immersed in his own thoughts to notice before Brent snapped his fingers a few times in his face.

The prince flinched, looking up wildly, "It's you"

"It's me" Brent smiled

"Bobby" Lucas snorted

"Ah, right, okay. We can forget about that, please" he rolled his eyes. He leaned on the counter opposite to the one the prince was leaning on "What brings you here anyway, Your Highness?"

"I just came for some water," he said "ANd I just finished reading your letter"

The way he hugged the glass so tightly in his hands made him look so young, Brent though, so innocent and adorable.

"Why didn't you ring for me or a maid? A prince shouldn't make his own food or drinks" Brent said

"I wanted to get out of my room as quick as possible" Lucas shrugged, "I come here all the time when I'm bored. I like being around food,"

"I see" Brent nodded

Then there was silence as they stared at each other. It wasn't necessarily an awkward silence either, more of a tension-breaking silence. It wasn't until Brent broke it, that they both came back to reality,

"So," He cleared his throat, "I think we might need to address the elephant in the room"

"Can we just not?" Lucas sighed, hanging his head in shame. He really didn't wanna talk about the argument.

"I just wanted to formally apologize"

Lucas looked at him in shock "What?"

"I shouldn't have gotten snappy with you," Brent said, feeling like a crummy person.

Lucas put his glass down and walked closer, shaking his head, "No no, it was me who kept pushing you and acting like a spoiled brat"

"That's because you are a spoiled brat, princess" Brent laughed "Besides, this wouldn't have happened if I didn't just tell you my freakin' name as you asked"

"You could always tell me your name now," Lucas said, looking up at him. It was then that Brent noticed two things about this situation.

First, he noticed that Lucas was pretty short. Like, way shorter than him actually. Secondly, he only realized this because they were closer than they'd literally ever been.

The scent of lemon was so strong in Brent's nose, he felt slightly intoxicated by it. He was so incredibly overwhelmed by it that he couldn't even think straight.

"Well?" The prince asked, "Are you willing to tell me now?"

"Am I willing... to tell you... what?" Brent said, shaking out of his love-struck state. "I'm sorry, what did you say?"

Lucas stared at him for a while before shrugging, "nevermind. I could always ask Chef Lucas tonight" he said with a wide grin

"Yeah" Brent nodded "That. Let me warn you, he's quite a looker"

"Oh yeah?" Lucas rolled his eyes, "Better looking than me?"

"Hm..." he thought for a second, "Maybe? He's definitely not cuter than you, but he's hot as hell"

Lucas laughed "You have a habit of calling me cute. And complimenting men in general" Lucas said, "Careful with that. I don't know how people in the continents would react, but here people might mistake you for a homosexual"

"That'd be nice," Brent said with a laugh, "Because I am a homosexual"

Lucas's eyes widened, "You're... like... seriously?"

Brent laughed again, "I'm gay, yeah. Been gay my whole life."

"Oh, I see" Lucas nodded, face reddening by the minute

"Why?" Brent asked, "Do you mind?"

"No, not at all!" Lucas said, waving his hands frantically, "I'm not homophobic, I've just never met an-um-"

"A homosexual?" Brent smirked

"A homosexual man" Lucas said, "All the homosexuals I know are female"

Brent raised an eyebrow, "Does that make you uncomfortable?"

Lucas shook his head, "I'm definitely not uncomfortable, no"

"That's good" Brent nodded "That gives you one less reason to hate me at least"

"Why on earth would I hate you?" Lucas looked at him like he was crazy, "Did you think I was homophobic?"

"No, not at all. It's just I tend to say the wrong things when I'm around you" he confessed, "I just get so nervous around people that I li- look up to"

"But you're older and taller than me" Lucas shrugged, "I don't understand why you would look up to a spoiled brat like me"

Despite the fact that he was speaking with a prince and that he could totally get arrested for this, he put his hand on Lucas's head and curled and curled a long blonde strand back behind the prince's ear. Lucas's flinched at the sudden action.

"I don't know why either, princess"
