Encroaching Chaos (3)

Ignoring Lucky who was struggling to hold back his laughter after Amber said that the monster in the room was the weak one, Bazel gently pushed Isolda through the house and out to the car.

When they got to the car door, Isolda saw that there was no handicap lift and with a slightly crumpled brow she was about to point that out when Bazel interrupted her.

Her vision was taken up by a silver flair, as Bazel stepped in front of Isolda and said with a gentle tone,

"Do you mind if I help you up?"

Isolda automatically nodded, and before she could change her mind she felt herself being lifted upwards by a powerful but careful force as the car door mysteriously opened on its own and she was deposited inside carefully.

She then watched as Bazel reached over and even buckled her in tight, checking carefully that she was secured before closing the door and getting in from the other side.

"You seem used to this," pointed out isolda as she looked thoughtfully at Bazel with a finger on her chin, "do you have children of your own? You give off a feeling that reminds me of my own father."

Bazel froze for a moment, realizing that he had automatically did what he always used to do for Lily despite her saying she was too old for that, and said with slight embarrassment,

"My bad, its habit as I do have a younger sister who I am the legal guardian of. We grew up together, but we would always spoil one another whenever we had the chance to. It was probably to make up for a lack of parental care, so we tried our best to fill in the gap for the other. We were orphans, you see."

Isolda had gotten her answer and so she fell silent, aimlessly looking out the window as Lucky got into the driver's seat and began to drive to their destination.

The scenery started to blur together from the speed of the drive and a gentle from the engine of the car could be heard, all the while silence descended in the car.

Bazel, however, found that he felt an urge to engage in conversation with the person sitting next to him and so despite his reservations he broke the silence with,

"I had inadvertently heard that you had been on the list for a new kidney for quite awhile, yet someone like Captain Schwarz would no doubt be able to bend the rules a bit and get you on the fast track for a transplant.

"So why the long wait?"

Without even looking away from the window, Isolda responded plainly and with a dull tone,

"He did try to get me on the 'fast track' and it succeeded, but at the cost of me getting priority another person was forced to wait longer. I know I could go longer without it, but when I managed to get some information out of my doctor they admitted that the person behind me would not be able to wait.

"So I gave them my spot."

"Admirable," said Bazel but then he continued, "but getting put behind another spot would not delay it for as long as you have been. I did get an earful from Captain Schwarz on my way here, asking me to help convince you if I can.

"I lean towards respecting other people's decisions, but I can understand his sentiment as if it were my own younger sister I doubt I would be as willing to do as they wish when it is clearly detrimental to their health."

Isolda declined to answer, instead choosing to allow silence to descend once more.

'What a weird person.' thought Bazel as he stopped pressing on, for their relationship is of strangers after all.

Time passed and the vehicle arrived at the clinic where Isolda's appointment was due, and once more Bazel carefully helped her down and into her wheelchair. Dutifully fulfilling his role as an escort, he pushed her along into the clinic.

Upon entering Bazel marveled at how clean and sterile the institution was, far superior to his own doctors office that he would go to.

But his attention was drawn by Lucky for a moment as he leaned in and whispered,

"I have a bad feeling about this place, I think you should stay with the missy until she is done with her appointment."

Bazel was confused for a moment, as he could not detect anything dangerous, but he remembered who had given him the warning and decided to trust the insanely lucky individual.

Heightening his vigilance, Bazel lead Isolda into the offices and towards the destination of her appointment.

Passing by the halls, where only the odd person or two would pass by quietly, they walked up to the front desk and allowed Isolda to conduct her business in peace.

A few moments later they were led to a room for her to undergo her checkup by a female nurse.

"Can you two men wait outside? The checkup will be of a personal nature." said the nurse.

Having just received the warning from Lucky, Bazel was not inclined to separate from Isolda but an idea came to mind and so he nodded and waited outside.

The nurse took over for pushing Isolda, and the door closed behind the two.

"Salvador, did you not get my warning? This place feels off, trust my intuition. It has come in handy more times than I can count." hissed Lucky with an urgent voice.

"Relax," responded Bazel as he showed Lucky what he was doing.

Behind his back was a small portal that he had created, allowing for anything that entered the portal from either way to come out the other. This, of course, included sound if he so chose.

Making sure to hide the exit of the portal in the shadows underneath the examination bed, Bazel listened carefully for any problems that might occur.

----

The exam room that Isolda was pushed into was small but clean, with a sink with cabinets under and above it in the corner, an exam bed in the far end, and a chair for the examiner to sit in right next to the bed itself.

The floor was a clean and sterile white color without a single blot or blemish, and Isolda could smell the overpowering scent of some kind of powerful cleaning agent that had been used to scrub everything.

"All right Miss Voight, let us do the usual blood work. I would offer to weigh you like usual, but I don't think a doctor is required to tell you that you are not eating enough," said the nurse in a fake cheery tone as she pulled out a blood testing kit from one of the cabinets.

Isolda presented her arm, and with some difficulty rolled up her sleeve, whilst still having a vacant and bored look all the while.

The nurse seemed used to the unresponsive patient, and quickly pricked Isolda's vein and drew the blood she needed.

Taking the rather thick needle out of Isolda's vein, she quickly brought a piece of cotton and pressed it to the wound and wrapped a bandage around it.

The nurse, after making sure everything was good to go, happily picked up the blood sample and began to take it away to be tested in the lab. Yet when she picked it up she froze for a while as she stared at the blood in shock, bringing it to her face to smell it carefully.

Not even bothering to address the strange look that Isolda was leveling on her, the nurse pulled some kind of necklace that was on her neck and under her clothes.

The necklace had a medallion attached to it, with various weird looking runes that Isolda thought looked like something out of a comic.

The nurse held the blood sample next to the medallion and watched with rapt attention, visibly shuddering every time one of the runes lit up.

By the time the second to last rune had lit up, the nurse was completely different from her normal calm and professional self. Instead she was basically hyperventilating as an excited and almost insane smile showed on her face.

"Such high purity," muttered the nurse as she turned towards Isolda with a look of fascination, "Isolda Voigt, it seems you have a bright future ahead of yourself.

"Would you like to be made better than you are now? Would you like to become a member of the superior race?"

Isolda was downright physically repulsed by the creepy and cult like behavior the nurse was suddenly exhibited, articulating her thoughts by saying,

"I dont want whatever you are selling. Leave me be, I think I want a different nurse."

All Isolda got in response was a blood red blade appearing in the hands of the nurse, and being pressed up against her neck.

The blade was so sharp that just by gently pressing onto her neck it drew blood, causing a sharp pain far worse than it should have been.

"Foolish commoner, you have no choice in the matter. Join willingly or join in death...I am sure your heart will make for a great vessel to birth new members of our grand House."

Completely ignoring the wicked expression of the nurse, who looked more like some kind of witch than a dainty nurse at this point, Isolda just scoffed and said,

"Kill me then, I have been wanting to die for awhile now. Do me the favor and end it."

The nurse was slightly surprised at the fearless nature of the woman, but a moment later she got over her surprise and set out to do just as she was asked: deliver Isolda to death.
