Lucky's Expedition (3)

Hearing what could have perhaps been the very reason he was led here in the first place by his visions, Lucky almost enacted his plan to escape but instead he decided to see how much he could learn from the strange fellow in front of him.

"So, how come you are not participating in this? Surely you more than meet the strength requirement to kill these 'cattle' as you call them. No offense, but I have killed a few Sanguis men and not a single one of them were even a fraction as strong as you."

The researcher waved his hand at Lucky and said with an bashful...and quite disgusting smile, " Oh you flatterer. Though what you said does not strike me as odd, for the quality of the branch family present is essentially the bottom of the barrel.

"While I on the other hand am a true Pura Genus through and through, I was even offered a position in the main family several times but I have no interest in the petty politics between the factions. My only goal is to look into the depths of the Gift we are given and see to what limits I can push it to.

"None of that evolution garbage that focuses on breeding like rabbits to maaaaybe produce something new, and who knows if that new thing is even worth it in the end?

"No, my own approach is based on the modern times that we find ourselves in...using SCIENCE!"

By the end of his long piece the man had stood up and with his hands raised high in the air he had on a look that one would expect from a madman or perhaps a fanatical priest trying to convert atheists to his creed.

Clearing his throat slightly as he sat back down, the man continued,

"Well so far it has not gone too well, but I have produced SOME interesting results like what you so kindly killed for me. That was just a fledgling blood servant when I had experimented on him, but with a little bit of tweaking I was able to get him to some of the higher class blooded ones that are usually quite rare.

"Alas...they do tend to lose most of their reason as a result and can't do anything other than act in an animalistic manner, unless I am there to give them a direct order of course. Details, details...such bugs will be ironed out in future renditions. One I get more things to experiment on of course, whenever that is."

Lucky nodded like he actually cared about the nonsense that the man in front of him was going on about, while pretending to stretch all the while. Once his right arm was completely parallel to the ground, a flash of purplish black light appeared in his hand as his demonic looking blade unsheathed itself and flew into his hand.

Then with with a backhand upwards slash he unleashed a bout of demonic flame that sliced right through the crazed man who was sitting across from him.

The power and force of the attack was astonishing, with everything that the ranged slash had passed through completely destroyed and left as dust that was cast aside by the new breeze that entered the room.

A breeze that entered in because there was a large opening in the wall and roof where Lucky had slashed, letting in the outside sunlight.

Holding his strongest weapon in hand, Lucky looked at the corruption that was fast spreading from the weapon to his body as the seconds ticked by.

The weapon itself appeared to be merging with his body, with several flesh like tendrils of what looked like living flesh growing from the handle of the weapon and digging into his skin.

The pain and agony was something he was long used to, but he could never get used to one thing in particular.

'More...more...more...more...kill more, feast more, bath in more blood, destroy more....more, more, more, more'

The thoughts of the clearly living blade clashed with his own, giving him a splitting headache from the mental corruption that he was experiencing.

Focusing his attention back on his surroundings, Lucky looked for where his opponent could have gone as he tensed his muscles and made a run for the opening he had created.

Jumping out of the building and landing on the ground with a thud, Lucky saw the researcher several metres away in the distance picking himself off the ground.

His arm had been completely severed and the flesh around the stump severely burned, but he was still very much so alive.

"Gee, I thought that sheath looked familiar but to think it belonged to those freaks. You have some interesting friends huh, well no matter. If I, Kienreich Femmlar, could not survive a sudden surprise attack or two I would have long fallen."

"Seriously?" said the pained voice of Lucky, "I have never ever used the full power of this evil weapon, but when I finally do it doesnt even kill you. Wow that sucks."

To make matters worse, the stump of Kienreich began to show signs of activity. The flesh suddenly began to squirm around rapidly as the burnt flesh fell off piece by piece and new flesh appeared, with a brand new arm slowly growing in real time.

With a shiver of Kienreich's entire body, the arm completely grew in one go. The result was a new limb with baby smooth skin and youthful vigor clearly present.

Flexing his new arm Kienreich said,

"Always a funny feeling it is when I have to grow a new limb, but not one I often get the chance to experience. Especially from an apparent cattle...but no, you are no cattle. A cleverly hidden wolf in sheep's guise more like."

What he got in response was not words but instead was another bout of demonic flame, this time instead of a concentrated slash it was more like an outward explosion that covered half of the street that they were on.

Kienreich spread his arms wide, as if he were going in for an embrace with the oncoming flames, and with all the veins in his arms protruding and turning red he brought his arms and hands together as he unleashed a thunderous clap.

The clap generated so much force that it blew his two arms into smithereens, but it also created an explosive wave of air that blew out the oncoming flames like a weak candle.

There was no Lucky in sight, however, for the moment he unleashed the attack he bolted off running in the other direction leaving the researcher behind.

"Hmm, how unlucky of me? Haha, what a weird person...luck huh...I guess chasing him down would only somehow end of being disadvantageous for me, but I have all the time in the world to study him."

Laughing to himself in a maniacal bout, Kienreich walked back into his lab as his arms began to regrow anew.

Running through the alleys of the rundown slums that he had found himself in, Lucky randomly fled as he turned corner after corner and scaled several buildings with just a few jumps with so much force that he left indents on the ground and the walls he climbed.

At this point the corruption had spread to half of his body, covering the entire right half in pulsating black flesh. The benefit of this was that Lucky's physical and mental abilities skyrocketed. The downside of this, was that he felt like a schizophrenia patient with dozens of voices yelling at him to take that, kill that, eat that...the most horrifying of them all was not the voice that demanded he kill every single person he laid his eyes on, but the fact that Lucky found himself not as adverse to that idea as he should have been.

Covering several miles in a fraction of the time even the most fit of normal men would have, Lucky found a dumpster in a quiet alleyway and got inside of it.

Using his uncorrupted arm, he struggled with his corrupted one and forced the blade out of his hand and into its sheath once more. This was no easy task of course, as he had to use his normal machete to slice through the flesh and even his own skin.

Thankfully some of the power of the weapon remained with him even after he sheathed it, healing his ghastly self inflicted wounds.

The backlash of using the weapon did not go away though, as a sinking feel took hold of his mind as he began to lose consciousness.

Still he struggled for his phone and made a call to his employer, reporting what he learned while barely conscious.
