Chapter 1 Rogues

Loud snarls and screams woke the older pup, Jessabelle lifted her head confused from sleep. She looked around for her mother and father, only to find them both missing from their nest. Brows scrunching together, she stood and began making her way to the entrance of the den to peek her head outside. Did someone upset daddy? Squinting her eyes as they adjusted to the still dark lighting she stood now half outside. Wolves ran all over, some her packmates, others she couldn't recognize. It wasn't long before the severity of the situation at hand had finally wiped away the last of the groggy feeling that made her confused and she looked wide eyed and shocked at the scene before her. Rouges, they had come within the night to run them from their home. Several feet from her she saw one of the rouges as they ripped into one of the mother's as she protected her pups.

Across the space of their camp she could see her father running into the fight, a loud snarl emitted through his open jaws as he grabbed an enemy by it's scruff to sling it off of another member of the pack. Jessabelle frantically looked for her mother and younger sister.

"Mommy?!" She screamed as her topaz eyes searched for her an she began to run through the outer edge of camp, dodging those who fought. She was cut off in her search as she felt a hard weight knock into her, barreling her over. She scrambled to get back up before she was pinned, belly up, to the ground. A large wolf, browns and greys scattered across his pelt, had her under him as he snarled down at her with bared teeth. His hot breath hit her face as he did so and quickly snapped down at her.

She pressed her paws against his chest and kicked her back legs as she tried to keep out of his reach. The clicking of his teeth were loud as he snapped at her again and again until he pushed harder against her, his teeth making contact with the left side of her lower jaw. She yelped loud as she felt his teeth sink into her flesh and hit bone, his jaws were strong and it began to hurt more than a normal bite as he continued biting harder trying to break bone. His head began to jerk back and forth and she hollered out in pain.

Another figured snatched him off of her with its weight as it collided with the male, it was their pupsitter, Marilda. "Tilly!" The two rolled around as they snarled and snapped, both trying to find purchase on one another. Breathing heavily she jumped up again and finally caught a glimpse of her mother's white fur, standing out against the dark night. She went to run to her.

"Mommy!" She screamed out again and the dame looked across towards the voice, a black and white pup hanging by the scruff in her jaws. She felt her worries melt some seeing that both her mother and Saky were fine. She skid to a halt as a wolf again cut her off, facing her mother with a growl.

"Sage." The gruff voice of a female was loud to be heard amongst the chaos and Sage growled back as she Protectively turned her head to shield her pup, several weeks old, from the rouge.

"DADDY!" Jessabelle screamed out, she couldn't watch her mother get attacked, and so she stupidly ran. She ran right into the rouge, back turned to her. She sunk her teeth into the females backside with sharp smaller teeth. She was only a year old and about to be fully ranked but was smaller than other females her age, though she had trained and she had learned and she used what she had been taught to protect her family.

Easily the rouge reached around with a surprised and angry howl, snapping at her and biting her shoulder where she could reach. She used her strength to pull her off, slinging Jess to the ground a few feet from them. Her father had just ran in, attacking the rouge and she was knocked into as another wolf ran past them and into the woods, weather it was their pack or an enemy she had no idea but the rouges were beginning to surround them, cutting them all off from one another.

"Jess run!!" Matilda's clear voice rang out as she struggled to fight off two wolves. She looked to her family with fear in her eyes before she whined, turning and making a run for it to the woods. She ran as fast as she could, paws thundering against the ground as she pushed herself across the land. branches whipped across her face as she blindly ran, tears streaming down her cheeks and blurring her vision. The sound of the fights and rustling pawsteps in the woods from others escaping began to quieten until they were no more as she ran. She had been chased out from her home and as she stopped, ragged breathes coming from her parted jaws, she couldn't help but begin to shake and cry. She cried quietly at first until she realized she was utterly alone and then her cries grew louder, not caring who hear her. She cried for the pain of being run from her family, her home, the pain of her wounds that now were caked with dried blood and dirt. She cried because for the first time, she was scared.

Jessabelle cried until she grew cold and sleepy again, the cool breeze lightly running through her fur and stripping the warmth from across her skin. She shivered and stood, wincing lightly as the movement caused her shoulder to sting where she had been bit. She did her best to ignore it while she searched for a suitable place to rest. She worried about finding her parents but she knew that the pack would find somewhere to hunker down for the night as well, not much could be done this late. There were probably some who were still trying to stay away from the rouges, others possibly trying to locate each other. Tomorrow they would all perhaps begin to search for one another and she would follow suit and do the same.

There wasn't many places to try and rest for the night in all honesty and she had no idea where she was. She was well out of their territory and everything looked unfamiliar. She grunted and looked around, deciding some thicker brush would suffice for the night. Exhaustedly she climbed under and through some of it until she was able to find a spot, digging a little into the dirt to create a hollow where she curled up. Her eyes drooped and she yawned softly before she tucked her muzzle in between her paws and closed her eyes. Jessabelle then drifted into a sleep filled with screams and agonizing fear.
