Deceit

"This can't be real."

Lukas' eyes were wide, his heart ramming intensely against his ribs. Slowly, he dropped to his knees, looking from Carlos to the emptiness of space. The planet known as Dreulara had just erupted in their vision, leaving them stranded on one of its moons.

"It's gone. It's all gone! Grandpa!" He reached out, feeling tears well within his eyes. As quickly as they came, he choked them back down and looked at Carlos. "This is your fault!"

"Not at all." His voice was calm. Carlos stepped towards Lukas, eyes locked ahead of him. Remnants of Dreulara float about in the vast emptiness, ranging from large chunks of the planet to simple space dust. "I hadn't intended for the planet to be destroyed. Jade made that call by himself."

"Jade," He growled. "He was the asshole who kept coming after me, right? The police lieutenant." Lukas gripped his knees, before standing up. "I hated him. I hate him even more than before."

Carlos glanced at the Dragon and back. Turning, he waved his palm, a thin line of light erupting from the surface of the moon. It stretched out wide into a gate in silence.

"Let's go. We can talk about what to do later. You need rest."

"Screw you. I'm done." He stepped forward, back turned to Carlos and the gate. In Lukas' mind, ultimately, he hoped that was true for the Kult as well. "I'm going to find somewhere to live quietly. Gather my head. Don't bother following me."

"We didn't lie to you." Carlos crossed his arms. "Now more than ever, there is a way to reclaim it all. To fix what was done."

Lukas stopped walking for a moment, then turned and stilled his gaze on Carlos' features. "Oh yeah? How?"

"It'll take time, but there's a method we've been working towards. It's why we were gathering the Gems." He held out his hand. "You want to see him, and your people, again don't you?"

Lukas was hesitant to reach out to him. He felt lied to, like he was being manipulated by the Kult's promises. Kairas Yamishito's warnings constantly rung in the back of his mind like a gong, yet if it was possible to restore what was lost, to reclaim the souls of those close to him, he would ignore them.

More than anything, all Lukas wanted was his family back.

"Fine," He said quietly.

As he approached Carlos and brushed past his shoulder, the gate welcomed him with open arms, the Dragon vanishing within its light. Carlos watched it for a moment, mind mulling over something important he might've forgotten. It itched at his brain, so much he physically scratched his head, before stepping into the gate himself.

It's light faded, leaving Dreulara's remnants to float about in an untouched silence. By time, in space.
