[The Official name is Song Yiqi. Sunny is a nickname]
Sauntering around the mall looking for the popular ice cream stand that has been the talk of the must-have's deserts of the month, Syaoran and Song Yiqi walked together side by side garnering looks of animosity by the shop keepers and passerby's who hated being in the same vicinity as Syaoran. Song Yiqi felt uncomfortable as usual. When people stared with such hostility it brought back traumatizing memories for him. Subconsciously, he would tend to walk a little closer to Syaoran as if he were a shield protecting him.
Syaoran, however, could have cared less about how they were looking. He was used to it; in fact, he loved it. There was something satisfying about ruining everyone's day just with the blessing of his very presence. He felt like a celebrity with all the attention always on him wherever he went. He bathed in it, glorified himself about it. He would joke to Song Yiqi that in his past life he must have been the Emperor of China.
"Where is this place? I read posts on Weibo about it being here somewhere in the center, but I don't see it anywhere. I feel like we've been walking for hours," Syaoran complained. He had his irritated expression on and usually Song Yiqi knew not to say anything when he was like that. He became meaner than he usually was, and it hurt Song Yiqi's feelings.
"We've only been walking for 6 minutes…" Song Yiqi whispered to himself. He would be lying if he said he did not get annoyed of Syaoran sometimes either and dreamt of what it would be like if he stood up to him just once. As his humbly poor best friend he was to stay put and keep his mouth shut and only speak when he is spoken to. Syaoran even gave him a list of pre-made responses he had to memorize to respond back to Syaoran with. They even had fully scripted conversations Syaoran practiced with him whenever they would go out with Syaoran's rich spoiled friends.
Syaoran stopped walking having overheard what Song Yiqi whispered to himself. He turned around to face Song Yiqi with an utterly annoyed expression.
"Did I ask for a response from you? I did not ask you to stand there and follow me like a dog to be a fucking timekeeper, did I? Now help me find this damn ice cream stand and shut up!"
It was because he hadn't had his daily Mocha Chip Latte and had since been jumpy since this morning after they told him they were unfortunately out of it. Syaoran felt he was never complete without his daily caffeine, and he was just projecting his irritation about not getting it. He could have also just gone to a different Starbucks, but he specifically only got it from the one across from his mother's clothing shop.
Song Yiqi cowered a little bit and put his head down fiddling with his fingers.
"I'm sorry," he whispered quietly. Syaoran took a deep breath before talking to himself.
"Calm down, you don't need the high blood pressure and being upset will cause you more wrinkles. Tomorrow we will have our mocha chocolate latte, and everything will be fine. Someone like Sunny is not worth the energy. Just breathe and relax," Syaoran said taking deep breaths. He looked at Song Yiqi and gave him a fake smile before turning around. Song Yiqi followed closely behind.
Getting impatient Syaoran decided to go and ask one of the food vendors where the ice cream stand was. He spotted a sugar candy stall and walked up to it skipping everyone in line and cutting off the person in front.
"The line is back there," a woman said in a snippy tone. She pointed to the back waiting for him to move. Syaoran looked at her with a disdainful expression.
"I'm sorry I don't understand words coming out of a peasant's mouth. Repeat it to me again once you learn how to speak proper Mandarin—now you or whoever I need you to tell me where a certain Ice scream shop is. I hear it's so good people go back for seconds. Where is it?"
Before he could get a response, the woman pushed him out of her way. "Excuse me. I would like a bunny shaped sugar candy and –
Feeling like he was utterly disrespected, Syaoran slapped the woman across her face. The bystanders who were in line or standing around suddenly put their hands to their mouths in shock. One man who stood behind the woman came and grabbed Syaoran's wrist.
"What's wrong with you? How dare you hit a woman!"
"It wasn't a woman the moment it touched me with its disgusting hands! How dare that thing touch me! I am going to charge it with physical assault! And if you don't let go of me with your grimy hands, I'm going to tell my father how you sexually harassed me!"
The man quickly let go of him with a slight fear in his eyes. Syaoran's' father was no ordinary person who could be brushed aside.
"Look at you! How shameful! Your father would be ashamed," the woman said harshly.
"Hey what's going on?" A security guard suddenly appeared getting in the mix between the three.
"This woman assaulted me. Not only that but she also insulted my friend here behind me who is autistic, and she mocked him. She has no sympathy for the disabled. Right Yiqi," Syaoran looked at Song Yiqi to back him up. Deep inside Song Yiqi was scared. He did not want to lie on this poor woman who did nothing wrong but because someone like Syaoran was his friend who also supported his family he had too.
"Y-yes," he stuttered out.
"Look he even has a speech impediment. How could she. Just look at him he cannot even look people in the eye, and she had the audacity to insult him! She had to assault me as well in the process I was just asking for directions! Ask everyone here, they will all tell you. She needs to be escorted from the building!" Syaoran ranted on in an exaggerated tone.
"What a load of bullshit! He cut everyone in line including me who was standing in the front. I am wronged. I only pushed him out the way because he cut in front of me. Whatever else he said is a total lie. I have never said anything to that boy, I did not even know he existed until now. Everyone here witnessed it right," she asked looking at the bystanders. They suddenly started to clear their throats and avoid eye contact.
The woman looked in disbelief.
"Listen ma'am I'm going to have to escort you out of the building for public disturbance okay."
"This is unacceptable! He is the one who put his hand on me. Just look at my face its red. Here is the proof."
"She slapped herself trying to frame me because I called her out on her rudeness," Syaoran quickly responded. The woman could not believe what was happening to her. It was just too much that she fainted.
"Seems she couldn't manage the embarrassment of the mess she brought upon herself," Syaoran snickered. He smiled with satisfaction as the security guard carried the woman out of the scene. Everyone else who was watching could only give looks of animosity while holding their tongues. If it were not for his father, they would have destroyed him, they thought. Syaoran went back to the vendor ready to ask his question again.
"Now as I was saying earlier before I was interru –
"It's just down that way. Follow the crowd," he said quickly interrupting Syaoran. He wanted Syaoran to leave as soon as possible. Syaoran took a deep breath and gave a counterfeit smile before trotting on and calling back to Song Yiqi.
"C'mon Sunny, no need to stay as a viewing experience for these insects. I gave them a performance now let us go," he said wiping the part of his wrist where the man grabbed him earlier. Song Yiqi bowed to the people three times before running to catch up behind Syaoran.
"That boy has no business hanging around someone like that," a bystander said.
