"For your information, Riley, I am still mad about the bite. You do realize you literally killed me!" I sneered at him, arms crossed.
Riley got extremely close to me staring me directly in the eyes, his lips gliding into a smirk, "Obviously I didn't do such a good job, you're still talking after all." He let out a hearty laugh as I stood there in shock from his rude comment.
"Jerk..." I whispered under my breath.
"Hey guys, knock it off. The horde is moving again, we wouldn't want to get left out, let's go." Cody ushered us towards the now moving horde of undead. I let out a deep sigh, poor sweet Cody, he was one of the nicest people on this planet. Although I should feel bad that he got bitten, I don't. I don't think I could have lasted one second with this imbecile, Riley, in front of me. Cody is like my own personal psychologist, he is always there to listen, and he is not judgmental in anyway.
Catching up to the back of the horde was not difficult, the stragglers were often the unlucky undead. The ones that weren't, y'know, "all there."
We walked past one lady whose arms were twisted and tattered in different ways. She looked to be a fighter, multiple gun wounds covered her stomach and chest area. Obviously whoever shot her either never seen a zombie movie, or their aim was terrible.
After several hours of staggering through the streets several of the undead came to a stop. I suppose zombies didn't technically have to rest, but the thought of relaxing just sounded so refreshing to our remaining sanity.
I sat down on the step to an abandoned house, I stared at the lonesome toys scattered across the yard of the home.
"Hey babe." I heard a shrill voice call. It was none other than Cailyn. It truly amazes me that even when your flesh is rotting some people still have time to throw themselves around. Cailyn, was one of those people. Her target of the day, Riley. He was very susceptible to the wiles of Cailyn. All she had to do was flip her slightly pinkish hair over her shoulder and sway her hips and Riley was completely captivated. I rolled my eyes as Cailyn and Riley giggled and kissed in front of me.
"You know, Maya, if you keep rolling your eyes they may fall out." Cody jested, sitting down next to me watching the display of affection in front of us.
"Don't you find it kind of gross though, they are both considerably dead." I gagged a little thinking about kissing someone whose rotted flesh could potentially tear off.
"I think you exaggerate a little Maya, if I touch you you're not going to turn into a glob of slime and goo." He laughed and squeezed me into a hug.
"Alright, alright. I get it. I probably won't melt if I get touched." I laughed wiggling out of his grasp.
We sat in silence for a couple moments before gun shots brought us out of our daze.
"We need to get moving," Cody mumbled while grabbing my arm and heading out towards the rest of the horde.
To some living we are just a killing game, a gunshot is often a sign to stay away. The living like to play several games with the undead, I've heard many tales of cage fighting's and shooting games. Although I admit we are exceedingly disgusting creatures who just eat and groan, we still have feelings, albeit they don't know that.
It grew darker every second that passed, that's when they came out. No I wasn't talking about some mutated form of the undead, this isn't a video game or a movie. I was talking about gunmen, I'm not really sure why they come out at night, but they do. I guess they think our vision is impaired or something, but they come out in dozens all lined up ready to shoot from the bed of their trucks. They destroyed us in large numbers.
It was actually part of the reason I stayed in the back for the most part. Only, that didn't seem to matter today, I turned my head when I heard the oncoming sound of tires. My eyes widened when a single gunshot rang in my ears, followed by several others.
I dropped to the ground hopefully fooling them as already being shot. I scanned the area to find Cody with blood dripping from his leg. He looked up at me and smiled, he looked almost like he was about to laugh. Confused I watched as a few of the men walked throughout the scattered bodies shooting anything that moved. One of the men was cursing and shooting the bodies that were already dead.
He stopped a little too close to Cody though, Cody's smile widened and he sunk his teeth into the poor man's leg. His blood curdling scream rang through the night.
I guess that's what he gets, a leg for a leg.
