If I suspected they had released the 'beast' inside of Cailyn before, I was sorely mistaken. Her moment of confusion came and disappeared.
She unleashed a loud screech and began shredding through the hazmat man nearby her. I may have seen zombies – unfortunately – rip through someone before, but hardly at the speed and intensity at which she was going at.
Whatever they injected her with, I felt the upmost need to avoid it. At. All. Costs.
The screams of the hazmat man were deafened by the yells of the Dr. Smart lady through the intercom ordering her henchmen to gain control over the situation.
Out of nowhere men came running through the doors, surrounding Cailyn with nets and leashes of some sort. They looked like tools they would use to catch wild animals. She shrieked and attempted to get free, but they had too tight of a hold on her.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't immensely freaked out in this moment. Whatever they had injected Cailyn with had turned her into a super-zombie. She was like the ultimate zombie and it scared me to know they could have been injecting me with the same substances.
Once they left the room everything calmed down, the level of insanity dropped and no noise was made for a few moments. All I could see from my corner of the room were the shredded remains of the poor hazmat guy – he wouldn't be able to come back as a zombie in the state he currently was.
The intercom broke the silence and Dr. Smart lady cleared her throat, "That will be all the testing for today. The male zombie on the right and this female zombie will stay in the same room. Put the one on the left in the x-female zombies room."
I let out a sigh of relief, suddenly very glad I didn't have to share a room with Cailyn – Wait... the zombie on the – I turned my head to see what I hoped would be Cody on the right. All I could see was a sinister smile staring at me from across the room.
Riley was cackling over there in his tied-up state. If I had a working heart, I feel it would have dropped to my feet in this moment.
My panic grew when the hazmat people unhooked them and started dragging each of us to our respected rooms.
"No- no, you all don't understand. I am actually going to die with these room arrangements!" I started shouting, knowing my attempts were useless against these idiot living people.
Who in their right mind would pair a person up with someone they intentionally hurt. This Dr. Lady was going to kill me.
I figured they would have dragged us to the same clear boxes, but we made an abrupt turn down an all-white hallway. I watched Cody pushed into a white room with the door bolted behind him. My nerves skyrocketed. If he was going to be hurt, I would murder everyone in this place. Especially if Cailyn was the one to injure him.
I could only hope that he would be alright in that room.
They led us to a semi-empty white room. There was a bed and another door – where it led I was unsure. The Dr. Lady trailed into the room behind us, smiling as though she had won something.
"You both will be staying in this room, I would like to further my testing on you –" she pointed towards me, "and begin the testing on the male zombie for returning you human. Plus, I must find out the results of the stimulating shocks you sent to his brain." She nodded, looking at me to see if I was understanding fully what she was telling me.
I just stared at her, I didn't have to answer to this psycho lady. Trying to turn us human.
She only nodded her head before turning to exit the room, she stopped as she opened the door. "Oh, there is a shower in that other room. Along with a closet filled with garments. Please do use them. You are filthening my institute."
She shut the door behind her and left us alone. My eyes widened in shock. "Stupid lady, maybe if she didn't keep a whole zombie army in her white building we wouldn't get it so dirty."
My rant was interrupted by the cracking of knuckles behind me and a slight chuckle. I suddenly felt a chill in the air, and realized I wasn't alone in this room. I was with someone who would gladly find a way to kill me.
Turning my head slowly I smiled a cheeky smile at Riley when I faced his direction. He slowly inched closer to me, until I ran into a wall.
I chuckled nervously, "Listen about the whole – shock thing, I was just picking someone. I got nervous, I I pulled the wrong lever – "
His arms slammed on either side of my head. He looked menacingly down at me, inching closer and closer. I was growing highly uncomfortable with his closeness.
He put his mouth right against my ear, whispering dangerously to me, "Do you know how it feels to have your brain – the one remaining thing working in your body fried?"
Shaking my head, he let out another chuckle. "Would you like to find out?"
Unsure of what to do I screamed, "Pervert!" That made him pause and pull away to look at me, with an 'Are you insane?' look on his face.
His face instantly turned smug, "Do I make you nervous Maya? Do you perhaps find me attractive?"
Eyes widening momentarily, I looked at him, "Ha! In your dreams." Slamming my foot into his leg, he stumbled backwards allowing me the space I needed to get free. I ran quickly into the bathroom area, shutting the door behind me. There was no lock on the door to protect me from his wrath.
He banged against the door, but left it at that. For now.
I glanced into the shiny, white bathroom and immediately tried to remember how nice it was to shower.
Inching towards the nozzle I went to turn on the nice, clean water. Immediately stopping myself. What if I melted in the shower. Who knows how the hot water will react with zombie skin. I don't want to melt, I'm not ready to be an even more unapproachable zombie than I already was.
Glancing back at the door I swallowed, hard. I didn't want to melt, but the idea of getting pummeled by Sir. Hots wasn't pleasing either.
Deciding it was best, I sat down on the floor and just waited. I would wait here forever if I needed to.
I felt I sat there for hours, and was peacefully thinking before banging returned to my door.
Riley's voice came through the door, "Seriously, Maya. How long do you need to shower in there? I am coming in it's my turn – "
"Don't you dare!" I raced towards the door to push it closed but he entered anyways, without a problem pushing me back.
He glanced up and down at me. His eyebrows raising then furrowing, "have you even been in the shower yet?"
"Um... No." I stared at him.
"You have been in here forever, and you haven't even taken a step into the shower yet? Why! I have been waiting!"
"I was scared I would melt!" I shouted back at him. Watching his face form into an amused face was agony for me.
He bent over laughing at me, "You are the strangest person I have ever met. You aren't going to melt – Maya --."
"Besides that! What if I had been... unclothed... when you barged in—"
"Then I would have thrown up."
I stopped, processing what he had said. Gasping I opened my mouth. "You pig headed, idiot, go back to the underworld from whence you came!"
He smirked at me, "I think not. A nice, hot shower sounds rather refreshing." Riley began to near the water and lifting up his shirt as he walked.
"This is revolting and inappropriate for my innocent eyes!" I ran out of the bathroom, closing the door behind me.
In all honesty, I hoped the water made him melt until he was nothing but bones.
