In a small bed a female figure is seen lying. The young woman pulled up her blanket because a small ray of sunshine has penetrated from her window. Having a hard time adjusting her dark blue eyes from the light she still tried to look at the gap in her window.
'It's morning already.' She thought to herself. The young lady forced herself to sit up. Her wavy silver hair was just long enough to touch her shoulders. She stretched her long skinny arms in the sky and opened the window from her room and looked at the people in her neighbourhood. The street were full of carriages, travelling caravans and merchants. Suddenly a hint of bread and coffee was starting to be smelled from below.
"Luna!" A man in his thirties, with brown medium-length hair and red eyes called from below. "What are you doing? Eat your breakfast and come help me and your mother." It was her father, Kyle.
Luna silently nodded and hurriedly closed the window and changed her clothes. Going straight to their dining area a thirteen year-old boy with red hair and dark blue eyes greeted her.
"Sister, I made breakfast today!!" He excitedly said.
"Thank you, Sol. I'll cook breakfast tommorow." Luna answered.
"Come here and sit." Sol pulled her arms to seat in front of him. With a beam in his eyes he said, "Try it and tell me if its good."
Presented at their table is a warm mushroom soup, freshly baked bread, and some roasted chicken. Luna holding her spoon looked at the uneven sizes of mushroom in the soup.
'Gotta work a little bit more on his chopping skills.' she thought. Luna proceeded to taste the soup followed by a small bite in the bread and a bit of chicken that her little brother handed to her.
"Well? How is it?" Sol questioned.
Luna pondered for a bit before answering."It tasted quite… unique."
"Yes!!" Sol exclaimed. "I told you I was getting better at cooking. Next time I'm gonna cook dad's favourite dish. Hehe." Sol smiled revealing the small dimple in his right cheek.
'I should warn Dad about this.' Luna told herself. Just then Kyle entered the house and saw the two children eating.
"Dad! Come try this soup that I made." Sol excitedly signaled his dad to come over.
Kyle sat beside Luna and started to try the soup that Sol cooked.
"How is it? Its good right? Luna told me that it was good." Sol asked with huge smile plastered in his face.
"…" Kyle taking time to answer finally said, "Yes, its good."
"Then from tomorrow onwards I'll be the one to cook the soup." Sol said. He then stood up and headed straight for the door. "I promised to help Auntie Jenny in carrying some fabrics. I'll come back for lunch though." Sol said before bolting out the house. Being left alone Kyle nudged Luna in the elbow and asked. "You said that it was good?"
Luna looked at the soup and answered, "I never said that it was good. I said that it tasted unique. Its the first time that I tasted a mushroom soup with grounded coffee beans."
"We should really test if Sol's taste buds is working properly." Kyle responded leaning his elbows on the table while massaging his temples. He suddenly stopped as if he remembered something. "Luna… that grand social ball will be held in two weeks right?…You are already seventeen. Are you thinking of attending?"
Social debuts are usually held for middle and upper-class nobles to show that their children have reached the age where they can work now or get married. The Queen of Kans suddenly announced that their will be a grand social ball where even low-class villagers like me can attend and be a debutante.
"I don't know Dad," Luna sighed. "I don't really like gatherings. I'd rather stay with you and mom."
"I know, that's why I won't force you. I'll talk to your mother and aunt. You know how they get too much invested in these kind of events, right? Just leave those two to me, okay?"
"Thank you, Dad." Luna smiled.
"Your welcome." Kyle responded while patting Luna's hair. He proceeded to tie his hair up in a low ponytail. "Go and help your mother prepare the shop. The sun has risen many customers will be coming. I'll clean up the table."
Luna nodded and hurried to the coffeeshop next door. The shop was filled with the strong scent of coffee beans and freshly baked bread. The coffeeshop is quite small and can only tend to at least 20-25 customers. 'I love this place.' As Luna proceeded to go to the counter a woman in her thirties with red hair and dark blue eyes came out from the kitchen.
"Luna, my dear. Come here and give your mother a hug." The woman asking for a hug was Layla, her mother.
Luna walked near Layla and was just about to hug her when suddenly the door was opened abruptly.
"Sister!" Sol shouted.
"Sol for the nth time, please be gentle with opening the door. Your father had just finished having it repaired last week." Layla sternly said to Sol.
"I'm sorry Mother but Auntie Jenny asked to get some fabrics from Mr. Solski. You know how that old man always sermons me. He is only nice to Luna. That's why I was planning on bringing her with me." Sol explained.
"But I still have to help Mom and Dad tend the shop." Luna answered.
"But it will be really quick, so come with me… please. Hmm? Please..." Sol clasped his hands and pouted to make himself look cute to his sister.
Layla sighed, "Just go, Luna. I will be able to handle the shop since there aren't a lot of customers yet." She beckoned Luna to just go so that Sol would stop whining.
"Okay, Mom. Dad is just cleaning the table. He'll come here shortly." Luna told her mom.
"Okay have a safe trip." Layla kissed her children goodbye before waving goodbye.
'I'm quite worried. I hope Sol doesn't cause trouble for his sister.' Layla pondered as she looked at their figures becoming small in the window.
