Chapter*Eighteen:Understanding

Devanie's POV

__________________________________________________________________________________

I started walking home once I made it outside, I didn't turn back once. This was all my fault, no matter the countless warnings I never listened. I just let him sweep me off my feet, then just before I knew it he turns right back around to the one girl he said he lost interest in. I should've expected this since the day I met him he was such a pain.

It started getting dark then it started to rain, just great.

"Vanie!"

I turn around to see He Feng standing in the distance with his umbrella. I stood in the rain and let my hair clothes get soaked. He hurriedly walked towards me and made sure I was under the umbrella.

"Are you okay?" He asked as we began to walk again. I looked up at him. He wore a black shirt and grey sweatpants with black shoes with double earrings on one ear for accessory. "No." I said and he immediately put his arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer to him."You were right the whole time. I'm sorry."

He sighed and stared at his shoes to think." You don't have to be sorry Vanie. It's not your fault. He can never be trusted."

"Yeah," and just like that we arrived in front of my house. He walked me to my porch and we stood there staring at each other. He closed his umbrella and opened his arms towards me.

Without any hesitation I collided into his chest and he immediately wrapped his arms around me. Despite our wet clothes, I felt warm with his embrace. "I don't like seeing you sad Vanie, get some sleep alright?" He said and looked down at me. He smiled, showing me his dimples.

I realized that was the first time I had seen him smile in a while. I nodded my head and proceeded to walk into my house. I was greeted with an extremely worried Samantha. Before the door closed behind me Samantha gave a relieved smile.

"Why were you out in the rain without an umbrella you idiot?" Samantha said as she inspected my appearance." I don't know I just was." I said and she looked at me concerned. "It's fine if you don't want to talk about it, but hurry and wash up before you get sick." She said and started pushing me towards the stairs.

After I washed up I wore a giant t shirt and shorts. I really let my guard down this time. Next thing I knew it was the next day and sun shined dimly in my window. I immediately felt a major headache and my senses felt fuzzy. I got myself sick.

Just great. I plopped myself back onto my bed and chose to suffer until someone came to check on me.

Knock

Knock

See I told you someone would check on me."Come in." I said, but no one opened the door.

Knock

Knock

Knock

That's when I realized the knocking was coming from my window and not my door. My immediate instinct was to hide under the covers.

"Devie!"

I heard a faint call from my name. The name that only Pryer calls me. I reluctantly climbed out of bed to open the window. I was going to tell him to leave me alone. I didn't want to hear anything he had to say. When I opened the window I was met with Pryer holding a single sunflower. The petals were bent and worn, it looked similar to the sunflower he stepped on the day we met.

How'd he get that?

"Devie." He sighed with relief in his voice." Go home Pryer." I said before shutting the window, but Pryer forcefully stopped me with one hand. He proceeded to climb through the window.

"Just listen to me for a second. Please?" He looked up at me with his dark brown eyes and short eyelashes.

"Fine."

He sighed and relief before speaking again."I know that you saw what Aurora was trying to do. I am so sorry for everything. I'm sorry for always hurting you, but I don't like Aurora. She came on to me and I don't know what any other way I can get her to go away. I've told her countless times. You may not believe me, but I have deeply fallen for you Devie. I've never felt this way before, but I know that I really like you Devie and I promise you I will prove to you how much I really mean it."

I stared at him blankly contemplating his words. I know that Pryer isn't the type to bluntly lie to me, but I can't just ignore his words completely. It may be a bit unhealthy, but I just really wanted to be by his side.

After my long staring I went towards him to hug him, it took him a few seconds to respond to me, but I didn't care." We're really bad at communication." I said and he laughed slightly.

"Really bad." He said and tightened his grip on me.

"On Friday you can most definitely meet me at the pier." I said and I felt him gasp quietly."Wait really?" He said and pulled away to look at me. He had a surprised look on his face that was amusing.

"Go on a date with me." I said and he smiled at me.

"Of course, anything you want Devie."
