The fireflies of reminiscence
have melted into the sun
The memories wrapped in their light
no longer exist with reason
when the leaves are burnt away
Emotion fluttered in the grass
Our hope hollow in the bark
Our remorse scattered in moss
Crumbled with abandoned stone
Something thought to be so strong
Not even time will crack its skin
But as my mental souvenirs
Bury themselves with the sod of guilt
I've realized the stone of connection
Isn't cracked under the might the time
But skipped along a river of tears
A smooth pebble of joy
Bouncing against the shifting tide of truth
Skip, skip, skip
Until it sinks under its own weight
Recognizing what it costs to exist
Finding that the beauty of a memory
Is worn by the pain of its loss
For a tree can stand
With the trust of the universe
To uphold its graceful pose
But remain in the eyes of the pristine
Fallen under wishes and dreams
With fairies to laugh in pity
As another vine is cut
From the blade of veracity
