Tracy was in the kitchen making some lunch for Hugo and herself when she felt a strange siphoning force sucking away all the energy from her surroundings.
"A breakthrough" She mumbled nonchalantly as she added cut onions and mushrooms into the huge pot of soup simmering on the huge cooking stove.
"Eehh!"
[Hugo is the only one in the house! … What is happening?] Tracy was taken aback as she deduced the probable source of the siphoning force that was drawing mana away from the house.
"Oh no!"
As she conceived the possibility, the wooden cooking ladle fell from her hand and she rushed towards the stairs leading to the attic.
"Please be okay… Please be okay…" She muttered as she ran up the narrow staircase before arriving at Hugo's door.
"Hugo! Hugo! Are you okay? What's happening?" Tracy yelled as she banged on the door. However, there was no response even after seconds of knocking.
Tracy conjured her black and white striped wand and pointed it at the door's lock.
"Clank!" The lock popped with a soft sound akin to glass breaking and Tracy nimbly opened the door and rushed into Hugo's room.
She felt her heart sink at her first sight of Hugo.
Hugo was sprawled on the carpeted floor on his back. His body twitched abnormally, as he took in irregular gulps of air.
Every breath he took seemed to attract a large number of mana particles which proceeded to plunge into his supine form. The mana vanished into his mouth, nostrils, ears, and skin which was now laced with a reddish hue.
"What is happening?" Tracy's eyes were teary as she rushed towards Hugo.
She extended her arms to embrace him but then withdrew them abruptly.
"I can't move his body without knowing what's causing this." She mumbled as she withdrew a communication talisman from her storage ring.
"Matriarch! There's something seriously wrong with Hugo. Please come quick." Tracy mumbled into the talisman before casting it out, and in a flash, the talisman exploded into glowing light before disappearing from the room.
In a matter of seconds, the Matriarch, now dressed oddly in dark-green military pants and a trench-coat appeared within Hugo's room.
"What happened?" The Matriarch asked nonchalantly as she oriented herself to the surroundings.
"Look," Tracy mumbled as she pointed at Hugo's form which was still drawing in large amounts of mana.
"Oh, mighty Erebus on a wooden bicycle!" The Matriarch exclaimed after glancing at Hugo. Her grey eyes were twinkling as she observed the anomaly that was Hugo's body.
"How can this appear here?" She whispered.
At that moment, the Matriarch's face was washed blank with perplexity, like her brain mechanisms couldn't turn fast enough to comprehend the picture before her eyes.
Tracy could have sworn that for the first time in their short history together, she saw the Matriarch's body freeze, before a familiar grin crept back onto her face, it soon stretched from one side to the other showing her snow-white teeth.
"Matriarch! What's wrong with Hugo?" Tracy asked, her voice laced with worry.
"Just a minute." The Matriarch replied, before conjuring a large black scepter and casting a light grey barrier around the room. She then withdrew several formation plates and set up a mana-gathering formation around Hugo.
"What is wrong with little Hugo?" Tracy's worry was increasing exponentially by the second. The strange behavior of the Matriarch had greatly befuddled her.
"He's okay for the moment." The Matriarch responded as she withdrew about a dozen blue-tiered mana crystals from her extra-dimensional ring.
"But he won't be for much longer unless we do something." She added, her tone solemn. She arranged the mana crystals around Hugo who was now enclosed within the boundary of a bluish translucent formation barrier.
"What's the matter with Hugo's body?" Tracy was on the verge of tears, as she held onto the Matriarch's arm. Her sight was still glued to Hugo's body.
"He is awakening some kind of physique. Go and fetch the large tub in the alchemy room." The Matriarch replied, her voice soothing as she patted Tracy's back.
"Why the tub?" Tracy questioned doubtfully. The Matriarch's actions were planting seeds of anxiety in her mind. Bianca had never been the sort of person who comforted her students with actions such as pats on the back. This was completely out of character for the eccentric Matriarch.
"Stop gawking! Hurry up… No! Stay here… I will just go and get it my self. But whatever you do, don't approach him before he finishes his awakening." The Matriarch warned before disappearing in a puff of grey mist.
Tracy knelt on the woolen carpet and continued to glance worriedly at Hugo who was still draining copious amounts of mana from the crystals.
"Hope he will be okay," She muttered as she rubbed off the tears that had just appeared at the corners of her eyes.
In a few seconds, the Matriarch reappeared in Hugo's room with a huge white tub in tow. She withdrew a few powders and potions in test-tubes and sprinkled them into the tub.
"Why are you using such a large variety of vitality elixirs? Is Hugo's body injured?" Tracy once again inquired as she moved towards the Matriarch.
"No! Hugo is awakening a strange type of physique which may harm his vitality. The elixirs are just insurance against the accidents that may happen during the awakening." The Matriarch replied while casting a water spell to fill the tub.
Tracy sighed in relief. But she was still apprehensive.
In a blink, the tub, big enough to accommodate a mature man, was filled with elixir tinged with a green hue. The elixir started rippling as it fumed green mist into the attic.
"Hugo's breathing seems labored. Should we open the windows?." Tracy inquired.
"No! The mist is filled with healing and revitalizing elixirs which are exactly what his body needs." The Matriarch replied curtly.
"What type of physique do you think Hugo is awakening?"
"The Innate Kundalini-Divine-Physique."
"Kundalini…" Tracy mumbled. "Why is it that I've never heard of such a physique?"
"Because it's one of the rarest physiques ever. Legend speculates that only a single person can awaken such a physique in a single era." The Matriarch sighed as she once again glanced at Hugo.
She had already filled the tub with the elixir and appeared to be only waiting for Hugo's awakening to end.
"That awesome!?" Tracy was pleasantly surprised. Her worry had now turned into pure bliss that translated itself into a beautiful smile on her youthful face.
"However, the physique is a double-edged sword." The Matriarch burst her bubble.
"Why?" Tracy's complexion turned ashen.
"The ancient scripts describe the Kundalini physique as a divine form cast on to a mortal human. This enables the bearer to train with a speed unsurpassable in the ways of mysticism." The Matriarch paused to first observed Hugo's situation.
"The bearer of the physique is supposed to awaken some sort of otherworldly energy in the form of a coiled serpent within his base-chakra."
"This coiled serpent will continue to grow with the bearer becoming more powerful with time, easing the host's training in mysticism."
"Matriarch! But all that sounds advantageous to Hugo. Why is the physique a double-edged sword?" Tracy was more concerned about its negatives.
