Releasing The Reapers

After glancing at the holographic paintings and crystal chandeliers of the floor lobby, Kyani slides a set of glass doors open and enters a darker room with rounded ceiling lights beaming against glazed marble and glass. Five more uniformed elites, some with their helmets on and others with masks that cover only half of their face, scatter the room and turn to see their leader as she steps into the room. Her boots click against the marble and echoes bounce over the walls until finding their way out in the lobby. A soft growl emits from her helmet as every movement in the room freezes to her will.

Kyani raises two fingers and spins them in a circle, gesturing for the elites to gather their senses and move out the door as quickly as possible. In an instant, the other five rush to grab equipment from a variety of tables, drawers, and closets. Kyani circles the room as an elite will grab their vest to click it over their uniform while another opens a drawer to grab ammunition magazines perfectly aligned over padded foam. The other three grab weapons that hang from the wall, all different and unique. After attaching all of their desired gadgets around their bodies, all five shift their helmets on and walk out the door in three minutes as they are trained. In one more, Kyani finishes checking their accuracy for keeping the room clean by the time they leave, and all six walk together to enter the elevator.

It'll be the only normal thing about their trip.

They wait patiently until the elevator doors open up to the harsh winds of the rooftop sixty floors above the surface of the earth. The six align themselves and spread out as they walk to the middle of the roof, their new target and mission displaying on the interfaces in their helmets. They start to run, speeding up gradually, and Kyani leads the five others in jumping off the edge of the building. The wind pushes harder than ever as gravity runs its course, dragging them to the surface without an ounce of care for their reasons for tipping over the edge. They fall to stare at their reflections from the mirrored walls of the tower as the ground nears to give them the same fate they've been named after. The gloss of their uniforms melt with the dark of the skyscraper, and they don't catch a single eye from afar when diving to the ground.

Halfway through the fall, Kyani presses and activates black metal wings that sprawl out like arms and click into shape, lighting up and leaving a purple trail in the air as she glides through and watches the others do the same. Two more follow the same simple path as their leader, while the other three spiral higher, swerving to slice the wind, and carving their steps in the clouds to become the lighting of the storm.

They soar to the city without hesitation to slice anything that keeps them from their target. Their focus is as sharp as their feathers, and the void that swallows the pupils of those who stare will keep them safe if they are ever betrayed. Their souls are weaved in the handle of a scythe, and together, they are the most invincible soldiers the Kaiyo has ever seen.

They are known as the Reapers.
