Scene Seven! Waffles in the Night

~Jericho~

SEPTEMBER 21

"Jeri if you wanna woo your girl you gotta invite her!" Lola exclaimed. I rolled my eyes.

"I don't even know if she likes parties!" I replied. Kyong-tae came downstairs to observe the commotion.

"Everyone likes parties!! PLUS it's not a party just a little get together with my people." Lola said rebutting my response. Kyong-tae shot her a look.

"Excuse you. I don't like going to parties with people I don't know. Heck I don't even like going to parties with people I DO know, and your "people" is your entire softball team and then some" Kyong-tae told her.

"Plus she won't know anyone at this 'get together'" I said, agreeing with Kyong-tae. Lola rolled her eyes.

"She will know people! She'll know you" she pointed to me, "and you" to Kyong-tae, "and uh... I'll meet her and she'll get know me!" Kyong-tae laughed.

"Two people? You expect any person to go to a party where she only knows two people??"

"Whatever just invite her!"

SEPTEMBER 25

I crossed the bridge, constantly turning my head in search for a blue eyed girl.

Nothing

She always shows up unexpectedly, always when I least expected it. It's been almost a week since I've seen her. I still blush after thinking about holding her hand and our..... dare I say? little date.

After awhile I gave up looking for her, and walked to my class feeling disappointed.

As I was walking in the halls of the Sabin building, I remembered what my biology teacher was always talking about. Mrs. Amparan had always raved about how the building was named about this lady called Florence R. Sabin and how she was a pioneer for women in science.

I stopped when I got an urge to sneeze, and quickly looked around to see if anyone was near by. Thankfully it was morning and not a lot of students were around. When I sneezed I thought I was going to be a quiet one, but it wasn't. It was a monstrous sneeze that made me feel so embarrassed i was so glad no one was around to hear it. If only Dr. Sabin has created a loud sneeze vaccine.

"Bless you"

NO

I spun around to see who had responded to my loud monstrosity. I was met with blue eyes and a polite smile.

"Thank you" i whispered, shocked out of my mind. SHE ALWAYS SHOWS UP WHEN IM LEAST PREPARED she smiled.

"Allergies?" She asked, brushing off my disgrace of a sneeze. I shook my head.

"Just a random sneeze"

"Ahhh" she said nodding her head. After a while of just standing here she asked "Heading to class?"

"Biology you?" I responded.

"Chemistry" she said beginning to walk forward. I follow at her side.

"So Amelia," I said turning to look at her. She hummed in response and i continued "my roommate, her name is Lola, she's hosting a kinda party and I wanted to invite you to come," I asked. Her face kept looking forward but from the side I saw she scrunched her face like she was thinking. Oh crap maybe I overstepped.

"What day would it be on?" I bit my lip. Lola told me to invite her three days ago but i havent been able to find her until now...

"Its actually today.... I was going to invite you with more notice but i couldn't seem to find you..."

"Ah" she stopped and faced me in front of what i think is her class.  her face looked like she was trying to find the words to deny my invitation. I was going to excuse myself and start walking away but she pulled out a piece of paper and a pencil from her backpack and motioned to hand it to me.

"I'm still not very good with locations in town so can you write down the address of the party and ill see if i can make it" she said casting a hypnotizing smile.  CRAP I HAVE TERRIBLE WRITING.  I carefully scribbled down my address

3751 ASTER STREET -MY HOUSE-

I handed the note to her and she smiled and mumbled something I couldn't hear.

"It's getting late I should go to class" she looked up and nodded

"Thanks for the invite Jericho! Have an awesome day" I smiled and nodded walking off wondering if the cute girl was looking my direction.

—————————-

"Softball just hasn't been the same without you Jericho! I heard you quit to join the geeks in drama?? That's not possible is it??" Sabrina, a pitcher, asked. I just smiled and laughed it off

"Anything's possible Sab," I said looking around if Amelia had come.

Still nothing.

I walked away to the garage where Kyong-tae had taken her escape.

"How's it going Noy?" I asked her, she shrugged

"Better than out there with all the jocks and random people."

"What'd you expect? Lola always goes all out with her "little get togethers" " she laughed and nodded

"True."

I looked down fidgeting with the end of my shirt, Amelia was probably swamped with homework that's why she couldn't come.

"If you stay in here you won't be able to notice Amelia if she comes." Kyong-tae brought up. I looked up sheepishly.

"What- I wasn't-"

"Save it. Although I don't think she'll come, she seems like an introvert, if she does, she'll be wanting to see a familiar face."

I nodded and smiled

"I know you don't really like the whole thing, but thanks."

Kyong-tae smiled.

"I'll always support you. Now go because your girl's expecting you."

"She's not my girl but okay," I said walking out.

I walk out to the backyard where most of the people were.

"Hey Shortstop!" Jordan called

ugh great.

I turned to face him and smiled politely,

"Hello Jordan, what a treat to see you tonight."

"When we gonna go on that date?"

I grin forcefully

"Still a lesbian,"  I respond gritting my teeth. He scrunches his face and rolls his eyes. I remind myself to scold Lola for inviting him.

"I bet I can change that." He answers back. Before I can tell him that I'll never be interested in a person with a dick I spot a girl  sipping water, standing in the corner by the herbs.

Amelia!

I glance back at Jordan wondering what he's even here.

"Sure whatever you say Jordan. Excuse me" I said leaving. I hear him scoff but that doesn't matter as I head to Amelia.

Yup definitely a lesbian

"Amelia! I'm glad you could make it," I said treating her warmly. She smiled

"Couldn't miss it for the world, by the way is that thyme? And peppermint?" She said pointing to the little pots we had a lot the corner of the wall. I nodded admiring the fact she could tell these herbs apart in a dimly lit place.

"Kyong-tae likes to make flavored waters and I like to cook with fresh herbs." I said "I'm surprise you could identify them, it's pretty dark out here." I commented looking around.  She shrugged

"When I was small I was obsessed with plants, herbs and anything that grows from the ground, I guess I still know the different textures," she replied. I smiled.

"Jericho?"

"Yeah?"

"Would it be rude of me to invite you to a waffle?"

I guess she noticed my confused look cause she continued.

"I'm not really a party person and I'm craving a waffle, I wanted to know if you wanted to come on a quest for them with me? If it isn't rude of you to leave the party."

I shook my head

Alone time with Amelia away from Jordan, Sab and the others??? HELL YEAH

"It's not my party so I'd be delighted to join you in your quest to waffles."  She smiled

"Awesome sauce! Let's go" she said beginning to walk towards the gate.

It's cold. And I'm wearing a t-shirt. But I don't wanna make Amelia wait.... screw it I'll be fine.

I walk behind her and waved to Lola, she raised a thumbs up and a smirk.

—————-

"I didn't know there were so many teenagers in this town." Amelia said walking up to Sarah's, we had walked through the entire park to the upper side of town,

"Some of them come from Aslan, they're all Lolas high school friends," I explain "since it's the weekend they can afford the drive, but unfortunately some of them stay the night cause they're too drunk to drive." I groan hoping Jordan doesn't touch a single bottle of liquor. Sober Jordan is annoying but drunk Jordan is another monster. Luckily he lives here and can walk to his dorm.

"Ahh, must suck for Jin, I know it's her house, and seeing how she wasn't out and about with the party goers she must not know them," she said

"Yeah... Lolas gonna get it pretty hard when the house is empty," Amelia laughed and opened the door to enter.

"Table for two please," she said pointing two fingers in the air when Genesis, the host asked for how many. Genesis lead us to a booth in the corner of the restaurant.

"Thanks," I said sitting down in the opposite seat as Amelia. Just as I was going to ask Amelia something I hear footsteps beside us.

"Hey guys! What would you like to drink today?" I look to the side to see Able, the son of Sarah, owner of Sarah's.

"Can I get an iced tea? Sweetened? Please," I responded looking at Amelia to see what she was going to order.

"Cool, cool and you?" Able asked. Amelia raised her head from the menu and smiled,

"Can i get a strawberry milkshake? No whip cream please," she asked turning back to the menu.

"Yeah totally! I'll give you some time to decide what you guys want." He said turning to attend the few customers scattered around the place.

I turned to face Amelia.

"Deciding what to get?" Amelia looked up and smiled sheepishly,

"No i was just reading the menu, I'm gonna get a waffle."

"Have you been here?" Crap that was a stupid question! OF COURSE SHES BEEN HERE DUHHHHHHHH AHHH SSIFHEKAJZ

"Hehe yeah, I've been here a bunch of times. When I first moved here it was all I ate... plus it's close to where I live" I nodded, she lives near here?

"Oh cool cool" I respond tapping my fingers.

"Jericho-"

"Alrighty!" Able came out of the kitchen holding two drinks "what would we like today?"

I turn and smile.

"Two waffles please" I answer looking toward Amelia to make sure. she nodded.

"With everything? Fruits, whipped cream, syrup?" I nod, Amelia looks up at Able and raises a finger.

"Do you put blueberries?" She asks shyly and he nodded "without blueberries please, thank you." She said politely. He nods sets the drinks down and takes off. I turn to face Amelia.

"Don't like blueberries?" I ask curiously, she looks up from her milkshakes and shakes her head.

"It's not that I don't like them, I'm just a tad bit allergic to them... so I avoid them when I can" she responded sipping her drink.

But if that's the case then...

"Wait what about those muffins that girl made? You ate one didn't you? Weren't they blueberry?" I asked

"Ah" she said tightening her lips "Jackie offered had hard work and I didn't want to be rude so I ate it."

"So that's why I didn't see you when I left" I continued. She grimly nodded

"Hehe yeah.."

"About earlier Amelia, you wanted to say something?"

She looked up from her milkshake, and into my eyes. Her eyes hinted a sense of sadness or maybe I'm just tired. She looked away to look out the window, watching the light flicker from the lamp posts.

"I just wanted to thank you... for leaving the party to come get waffles with me." I smile kindly and place a hand on her cold one.

"Thank you," she faced me and smiled.

———-

"Those waffles were so good!!" she said walking into the park. I laughed as she pat her belly, "perfect ending to this day." she finished.

A breeze of cold wind hit me and I automatically raise my arms to hug myself. Why didnt i bring a damn sweater its the middle of september! I look up to see how far away my house is, and at that moment Amelia touches my shoulder and I face her. she began taking off her coat

"here take this, its warm." she said slipping it off, I raised my hands in protests,

"Thats a really nice gesture! -but I really can't, then you'll freeze!!!" I said stepping away. She smiled warmly

"thats okay I have excellent internal heating," she responded offering her coat. DAMN IT I begin to reach out when another brust of wind comes out of no where and I move to hug myself, Amelia moves in closer,

"Here I got you" she said as she helped me put the coat on" THANK GOD FOR NIGHT IM PRETTY SURE I LOOK LIKE A TOMATO

"Thanks Amelia..." holy crap this coat smells so good! Like autumn breeze and leaves... Wait- what the hell am I saying?? I'm such a creep.

"We're lucky it didn't rain today!" she says looking up to the sky scanning for clouds, but it was  clear.

"Wasn't it supposed to?" i said glancing upward

"We're lucky it didn't! Now! lets get you home," she said turning to me.

"Oh no!-" I decline "we're closer to your house and you have no coat, you're going home," she raised her hand to protest and opened her mouth but I interrupted "Amelia theres no use in arguing" she frowned but nodded.

-----

HOLY CRAP

SHE LIVES IN LIONHEART!?

"Alrighty this is it!" she said stopping at the enterance. I snap out of my head and move to take off her coat. "What are you doing? why- Don't take it off!" she said moving close

"But its your coat-"

"No matter! you can give it back later! you can't walk back without a coat," she exclaimed wraping tightly on me, she leaned close TOO CLOSE "Plus you can't walk back without any defense in case for an attack" she said sticking a hand into one of the pockets and pulling out her keys, taking out a specific key out of the chain and raised it to the light. It was a knife hidden in a key. I looked up to see her grinning "I have a special fondness of knives." she whispered and handing it in my hand.

"Thanks" I whisper back instinctively, afraid to move forward or backward.

"Now, sois sur le chemin, rousse! Off you go, thank you for the waffles," she said normally as she began to back up and wave. Before I could react to her sudden movement she turned and walked into the gate.

Then I just stood there.

What just happened? I was at a party but then I went for waffles? And then she gave me her coat and ran into the most expensive living space in town?! Even if we all worked, Kyong-tae, Lola and me would BARELY afford it.

I began to walk home fumbling with the key knife in my pocket, wondering where Amelia got this amazing coat and scent.
