Part 2

" Are you going to sit there and just stare at me or are you going to get up and follow me?" the prison officer said, cutting me from my thoughts

" Yes... Sorry", I got up to follow him when I felt someone pull me back by my wrist

" Why does the general want him?" Sebastian asked looking at the officer with stern eyes

" I don't have to explain anything to you. The General wants to see him and only him, if you have a problem with it, then go deal with it yourself", the officer rudely replied

I looked at Sebastian and noticed something. He looked a bit worried. Or is it fear? Whatever it is, now was not the right time to ask about it. The General wanted to see me, and I had to obey the command.

" Don't worry, Seb, I will be fine. I have not done anything wrong so there is nothing to worry about", I smiled and slowly pulled his hand away.

I was feeling very nervous and the look Sebastian gave was not helping at all. But, I needed to calm down and follow the officer. I had not done anything wrong, so I had nothing to fear.

The officer led me to the General's office, which was opposite the cell block. It was a two storey building and the general had all the rooms on the first floor to himself.

His office was the first one on the left side of the building. When we got there, the officer knocked. Someone responded and ushered us in. The officer went in first with me following him inside.

" Sir, he is here", the officer saluted.

" Thank you, Felix. You may go now", the General said.

The officer nodded, saluted again then left us alone. I was beyond nervous. Especially as I felt the older man eyes gaze on me.

" You... called for me, sir?" I managed to say

" Yes I did. Sit down", he replied and offered me a sit. I sat down on the chair right opposite his. That was when I actually took time to look around.

His office was huge. He had a couch at one side of the room, whilst his office furniture was at another side. The room had been painted in green with a bit of white which had been used for the ceiling. There was a door behind his desk where we sat.

I looked there intently, hoping to find out what could be inside there. As if that would even work. The room was just beautiful, too beautiful to look like an office in my opinion.

" You like what you see?" he said, smiling at me.

I looked down. " Yes sir, your office is beautiful".

" I see you are very shy. Don't be okay. I am not going to do anything to you, David", he said cheerfully

Wait! He knows my name? Why wouldn't he? He is the warden after all, remember?

" I am sorry sir, I hope I am not in any kind of trouble", I said meekly

" Oh no no, David. I am so sorry I made you think that. I actually called you here because, I have been watching you. And I must say, I am quite impressed with what I found", he complimented

" Thank you sir", I smiled

"...that is why I want to help you. You see, this prison has most of the dangerous criminals ever to roam in the surface of the earth. Those people are ready to hurt, young and blameless ones like yourself and I cannot allow that to happen", he explained, with a sudden look of seriousness on his face.

" Sir, I don't think I am blameless. I have done a lot of bad things which I regret a lot", I sighed. My heart suddenly felt sad

" I know. But, I don't blame you for it. You only made a bad decision and I don't think you should allow that bad decision ruin your future", he said softly

"...as I said, I really want to help you. I want to protect you from the other prisoners who would want to harm you in any way. That is why I called you here", he continued

He really wanted to help me? But, why? Why does he suddenly wants to put me under his protection? My thoughts were driving me crazy.

" I believe you might have heard a lot of things about me which is causing you to doubt my word", he said pulling me out of my thoughts.

" Yes, I have. But, why me sir? Why do you want to help me?" I asked, feeling a bit afraid.

" Because, you are not like the others. You are hardworking, quiet and always stay away from trouble. You also look like you are from a good home, even though I have not seen anyone else visit you apart from your sister", he answered

The mention of my family almost broke me to tears. He was right. My family apart from my sister wanted nothing to do with me. They did not come to see me or talk to me. That situation always broke my heart.

" My family... my family and I are not in good terms right now", my voice broke and I am sure he noticed it.

He smiled softly at me. " I understand, I really do".

For some reason, I trusted this man. And wanted him to help me. I could use that protection he would give me after all.

" So, would you want me to protect you in this place?" he suddenly asked

I slowly looked at him and smiled widely. " Yes sir, I would like that very much".

" Alright then, it's settled. But first of all, I will like you to do something for me. I want you to be the one to clean my office from now on. That will be the only work you are permitted to do", he offered.

If that is all it will take me to get the protection I need from the boss himself, why not?

" Of  course sir. I will do whatever you ask of me", I smiled cheerfully at him.
