Nephilim Feathers!

Tears welled up in Lily's eyes when she finally could see again in the dim light of the monitors. She was like a small child scared of monsters in the dark. To be fair to her, there actually could be one or two around here. Apparently, most of the power in this section had been cut during the evacuation so as to avoid any accidents with the weapons inside.

Lily turned to face Coda, with her new found sense of security, and immediately lost it. "What is it with you two! Those are the Nephilim Feathers!"

"Is that bad?" The look on Lily's face was worse than when she saw Defiance lighting up. "Bad? This is the worst! We're all lucky they're out of energy and recharging. Those are weapons of mass destruction that were banned on the black market. Do you know how terrifying you need to be to be banned from the black market? I thought they were destroyed!"

"Looks like they weren't telling you the whole truth. These puppies are pretty cool though. Mom, can I keep them?" Coda asked, trying to look innocent. Lily's face went red with anger, "We need to destroy them now, if we can, and if not they need to be locked away before--"

The room shook as the ceiling collapsed in the next room, where we had left Defiance. It was also where the container for the Nephilim Feathers was. We couldn't stay here. Being underground right next to a cave-in sounded like a terrible course of action. Lily glared at Coda, before rushing to grab what she could.

As we left the room behind, Lily made sure to grab a pair of pistols and some ammunition from the guard's room just in case. At least now she wouldn't feel so helpless. On our way back to the elevator there was only silence. No shrill sound of the Insectiants crawling about or even the sound of the air whistling into the abandoned base from the emergency exits. Everything was eerily still. Lily was constantly looking at her watch, and it made me nervous.

"Maybe we should stop by my office first." she said with a whine in her voice. It was hard to stay calm now knowing the Nephilim Feathers could reactivate at any time. "Is there something there we should stop for?" Coda asked Lily. "Well... There may be a way to contain those things you picked up. They'll cut most materials with ease, but I might have something that it can't." As her sheepish voice faded off, it was filled with the sense that she knew more than she was letting on. The suspense was strangling me, and I knew something was coming. The longer we were here the jumpier she became. There was something in the air that wasn't right, and it was more than just the Feathers.

"What aren't you telling us?" I couldn't hold it in any longer. I couldn't help but whisper, even though there was no one else around. She didn't say anything, and instead she pointed at the watch on her wrist. She looked like she was hanging on every second and started walking faster.

Overall, it had been nearly three hours since we had met Coda. This underground base was extremely expansive, as though it weaved under the surface of the whole planet. It was nearing the end of the day, the military time on the watch was 2142. No doubt, it would be dark on the surface. Even though I wasn't scared of the dark, this didn't ease the tension I felt in the air. I had the feeling that something I didn't want to know about was coming for us in the dark, and everything but us knew to hide from it. The dead silence didn't help.

Her voice stuttered with fear as she tried to explain, "I-It's just that..." her eyes were darting around warily, "... the remaining cage systems will lose power soon, a-and those things are nocturnal..." Swallowing her fear, she reached out to hold onto me. This was either a personal trauma of hers, or we really had something to worry about here.
