"So you're saying you carry around hundreds of cubic meters of different alcoholic beverages, but you don't drink?" Asked the snowy, Aki's newly nicknamed master, who was playing a game she'd recently invented, turn over a shot everytime her apprentice said something absurd. She called it 'Breaking realities'.
"I'm so getting a barista job when i get back, yes, this is all my wife's stock and i carry it for her." He rolled his eyes, filling her cup with more gim and scotch. No, he had no idea why there was an alcoholic beverage with that name in a world that did not have a country named scotcland or whatever, nor did he know if those two things mixed well together, the woman just drank even more than Xera, and she'd never even drank anything but wine before this either.
"HAHAHAHAHAH!" She bellowed, definetly drunk. No matter what she did, Aki wasn't going to offer healing for her hangover, she deserved at least that much. "You're her husband, why would you be the one serving her like a servant?" She questioned while laughing, obviously not having any one practical example of mutual and respecting love through her milenia long existence.
"Because i love her, i think she looks cute when she's not being as uptight as possible, she opens up a lot more about her own worries and because she says she likes talking to this barman here." He quiped, being the corniest possible.
The frowning woman was about to respond to point that out, but then their mount shrieked before decapitating a eastern stile dragon that'd been attacking them for ten minutes now, the giant gryphon easily overwhelming the normal sized woman's cries before it started eating the carcass even though it clearly didn't need meat to survive seeing as the gouge in it's side revealed there was no digestive system inside it's body.
"Fuck you too." She said, turning to the bird, before slowly turning her cobalt blue eyes to Aki again, her cheeks blushing, though it was impossible to say if she was embarased or just over her limit. "You really love your wife, don't you?"
"I do my best with what i have, yes." He shrugged, seeing where the line of thought might lead.
"Would it be bad if i asked to be your wife too?" Snowy asked, blushing a bit harder.
"I mean, that's a fucking terrible idea." He pointed out. "And before i even go into my preferences on a partner, i simply don't see how i'd be able to just live knowing i am married to someone that saw and enjoyed the company of my more sadistic self. Not that you will backstab me or something, just if it is the right choice, if you will ever be afraid of me, if i will one day just get fed up and lash out against my more normal lovers, so on so forth." He explained, taking out a tankard and drinking whatever his wife had left on her reserve tankard.
There was silence for a bit as they both just looked at nowhere in special, the sounds of one demonic sect being raided by a undead horde completly surrounding it all that reached their ears, which was actually very quiet.
"You're also a lot more messed up than you let on, aren't you?" She more said than asked, Tianyi's face on the table.
"Worst part is that i cannot blame it on anything else but myself. I'd have gotten an above average life if i just stayed home. Loving family, advanced education, hobbies, it was a healthy enough life. What i have with my new family? It's perfect. All i ever wanted." *FWUN* He pontuated by launching a siege grade light spell of his making towards the people flying this way, he didn't care if they were reinforcements or just bystander. "Even now i can feel myself slipping by whatever bondaries and anchors i set for myself. Feeling less from everything but the suffering of others. Gods, that's so edgy it could kill me." He complained. "On a different note, i think you would do great with Mark, he's the kind of man you could just settle down with, have a normal family life, your own kids, some adventure here and there..."
"I'm sad and drunk, not whorring around." She complained, putting her shin against the wodden table affixed to the gryphin saddle and looking at him with upturned eyes.
"He's just as gentlemanly as me, you know? First wife died while he was in the field and he got retired, second wife was trying to use him and he didn't do anything to her besides get her out of his life. He's tall, cute, a good listener, his influenced was built by himself and his work, abs for days, big all around." He numbered, the woman a bit interested after his praise. And because she'd been alone for half a milenia. Sighing, she got up again and stredched, noting how her conversational partner actually didn't ogle her.
"Well, after all this carnage and heart to heart, i need to get laid." She declared, Aki nodding. "And if you're not doing it than we have to go to a big city." He nodded again, not mentioning how he could summon a whole orgy of sex demons with the energy and souls in the air.
*****
Walking around the chinese stiled market, Aki found himself with too heavy a coin purse and very little to do, his only friend on the realm curently fucking every male prostitute on the richer side of town. He was quite proud of the last part, but still.
So he decided to look for a black market. There probably was one auction happening right now around here, he just nedded to survey the shadier parts of town and looks for strangely dressed people that didn't properly fit.
The amount of young masters going to the same place quickly drew his attention, so he quickly became the plus one of a now mind controled lordling, reading the mind of the man who'd accompanied him and sending the guy off after enslaving him.
Some more acting and putting a fox mask on, Aki waited for the auction to begin by listening in on the people of the auction theorizing on how the young whateves had been sent over with a venerable unity realm elder. While not his favorite, it was always fun seeing people make fools of themselves while over theory crafting.
By the time the event actually began, he'd heard over six versions on how he was actually the guy's biological father, grandfather, secret teacher, brother in arms, a new guest elder and more that made less sense.
The first item was a naked cow woman, big muscles and at least g-cup despite that. Needless to say, he bought her. And her two children. He didn't look into buying the next few brigands, but everytime an unfortunate sod, craftsman, family or mercenary were sold, he bought them.
By the end of the first part, he'd obtained over seventy percent of the merchandise. The staff even came to bootlick them, sending cute twins over to serve their steemed guests. Who Aki directly bought. They'd actually be quite good as personal servants for Clair, and he was quite sure his daughter could melt the broken idiots.
Something he noticed, however, was that despite some people having stranger hair or eye color, everyone was chinese. Tall or short, fat or thin, burly or slender, they were still distinctively chinese and proud, it was like literally no other gene had survived some kind of apocalypse.
He though about that while waiting for the second part, even pointing out to the twins in the room his own features after taking off his mask, and they found it really weird.
The boy seemed to think him really handsome though.
Yes, turns out they sent twins who both preferred man. Even though they looked to be in their early teens.
While Aki was technically only 18, he'd always looked older, and with his prowess, no one really questioned his age. Nevermind the way he'd started using his body as a resource left that quite irrelevant.
"Master, the second section is about to begin. Since we were part of the auction, we can tell you right now that there are a lot of exotic substances and powerful poison here, but the star of the night is a collection of herbs that can help forge pills to break through till the later stages of nascent soul." Explained the female twin, both having already noticed the young master he'd come with was literally just a puppet.
"I see." He nodded. "They sound quite useless, but maybe someone with interesting items will come to attack me for them? No, there's only one other person at venerable level, so maybe they'd just gang up on me? Not really in the mood for getting junk, but I guess I should research those at the very least. What's the strongest poison that's going to be on sale again?" He asked, saying most of everything out loud just to hear his own voice.
"I'm sorry master, little red doesn't know." She bowed a perfect ninety degrees, the small tremble on her voice not unnoticed.
"You use little red as a name? That's so fucking dumb." He frowned, holding his temples and sighing a moment later. "From now on you are Fran and from now on you are Miles." He said, turning respectively to the girl and the boy, who looked happy and confused at the same time. Neither even understood their names. "No need to think too much on it. I will think of a family name later. For now just win all the bids for me, I have the money. Seriously, I do. Call me if there is something you are unsure of or want to ask." He said, taking out a scroll and forcing himself to read through the flowery language of the martial manual that described a spell he was interested at, which was somehow worse than the difficult explanation from the world he'd previously been at.
What he'd not give for boring instructions and formulas now...
"Master!" Called Miles.
"Already? How long did I even read this for..." He groaned and got up, looking through the one way glass of his cabin. "Unidentifiable but mysterious plant? Some surprise item?" He tried asking, leisurely walking while trying to keep reading.
"Master, the auction is being attacked!" He pronounced, which brought Aki to attention.
"Damn does the plot move fast around here. Let's go loot the whole place kids, no questions asked." He said, storing the manual he'd been reading and teleporting towards the slave pens, where several people fought and some slaves fell to the ground as they tried to go against their orders.
The leader of the attackers was one very big bull guy, so Aki imediatly knocked him out, and started piling up all the slaves around and sending them to the mansion of that guy who'd imprisoned snowy.
They'd basically taken over the place as a base of operations since It had the most facilities out of all the places they raided.
He caught some more attackers that caught his eyes, but Aki, his glowing portal and the people he knocked unconscious were mostly ignored, only bothered by easily blocked stray spells. As the twins stared at all this happening in front of them, 'Miles' turned to his sister.
"I may have a crush." He commented, the girl with his face looking weirdly at him, who could only shrug. "The heart wants what the heart wants."
"Dick for brains." She muttered and turned back to the action just in time to see them teleported inside the auction's vault.
She'd never been there, but after five seconds of catching her bearings it was painfully obvious they could be nowhere else given the items around.
"books, pills, poisons, venoms, plants, damn does this place not know how to make equipment, weird glowing thing, screaming ghost, fluff, oh, Mari is going to like this dagger." Cataloged Aki as he opened another portal and passed the beasts in cages to the same place while storing everything else including what was a plot item for someone, except for a very scary obsidian dagger with intrinsic drawings, which he started to play with.
It was clearly a cursed item, but it'd actually have problems with influencing his servants, nevermind his wife, who'd recently started collecting memorable daggers. Here the thing was enough to put unity realm expert on their knees, but any B rank adventurer with a high enough intelligence score would only see a good cutting, stabbing and parrying apparatus that was mildly annoying while offering a good tool.
Apparently, the job system had much in similar to the cultivation system, it's just that the former was more focused on the soul and body while the later generally relied on the cultivator themselves to upgrade them.
Each had their own advantages, but one was clearly safer and faster for Aki, though people with lesser meta gaming abilities or without cheating knowledge would generally consider both quite equal in the benefit/reward scale when their respective geographies were taken into scale.
