Time Is Key

After provoking Askyros, Aleph found himself sprinting like he's never before.

("Oh shit oh shit oh shit!") [Aleph]

Behind him was Askyros bulldozing through their ranks. Soldiers were sent flying, and any form of weaponry was deflected off him.

("How about this?!") [Aleph]

He turned and fired off three arrows, each brimming with magical power.

"Enough with the tricks." [Askyros]

Stopping for a moment, Askyros pulled a large chunk of cobblestone from the fort to block the arrows. He then proceeded to chuck it at Aleph without regard to anyone in the way.

"You can't be serious!" [Aleph]

Eyes wide with awe, Aleph dived to the side as the rock flew overhead.

"You're insane!" [Aleph]

"All is fair in love and war." [Askyros]

"Wait, how do you even know that phrase?!" [Aleph]

Though he was full of questions, Aleph suppressed them and continued to run.

("I need to trap him somehow!") [Aleph]

He peeked over his shoulder to check distance, causing him to quickly change his mind as he saw Askyros making a beeline towards him.

("Nope! No way! I value my life!") [Aleph]

Aleph ran along the fort's walls, eventually cornering himself against one of the fort's towers.

"Why have you stopped?" [Askyros]

Aleph sighed.

"The inside of the tower is rundown. The staircase is practically gone. I have nowhere to go." [Aleph]

"Then are you prepared?" [Askyros]

Aleph glanced at Askyros' sword and smiled.

"Nah." [Aleph]

Firing an arrow upwards, it struck the top of the tower.

"Vis!" [Aleph]

He suddenly vanished, reappearing at the arrow he just let loose.

("He teleported?!") [Adam]

Aleph looked down from atop the tower, feeling a bit more than just safe from the distance.

"Try getting me from up here!" [Aleph]

Askyros craned his neck upwards, staring at Aleph who made a mocking expression.

"You've trapped yourself." [Askyros]

With that said, Askyros took a stance. He raised his sword and ensured that it was perfectly leveled as he wound it back sideways.

"Uh… Is he going to cut the tower? No way, right?" [Aleph]

Taking a deep breath, Askyros swung at the tower horizontally.

"No way!" [Aleph]

He froze atop the tower, but nothing happened.

"Ha… Haha… Of course that wouldn't be possible." [Aleph]

Askyros then placed a hand on the tower. With just the slightest push, the tower started to tilt.

"Huh?!" [Aleph]

He saw the tower beginning to fall, along with him on it.

"There's no fucking way this is happening!" [Aleph]

Panicking at the strange circumstances he was in, Aleph ran along the side of the tower as it fell.

"Shit shit shit shit!" [Aleph]

Sprinting with all his might, he barely managed to jump to the fort's wall as the tower crashed into the ground.

"Urgh!" [Aleph]

He hit the ground rolling, coincidentally ending up at Askyros' feet.

"Uh… Hi?" [Aleph]

"..." [Askyros]

"Not a talkative fella are you?" [Aleph]

Askyros stabbed his sword in the ground next to Aleph.

"Woah! Watch it!" [Aleph]

"You will speak." [Askyros]

Aleph let out an anxious chuckle.

"I've been talking though?" [Aleph]

Askyros did not find that very amusing.

"Who commands this fort?" [Askyros]

Aleph raised his hands.

"Before I answer that, how about you take a look around you?" [Aleph]

Askyros didn't even take a look around. He knew most soldiers in the fort had him surrounded.

"I am aware." [Askyros]

"Really now? So you knew I was buying time?" [Aleph]

Askyros shook his head.

"You were not buying time." [Askyros]

Aleph put on a confused look.

"...I am somewhat terrified by that statement." [Aleph]

"As you should be." [Askyros]

The moment those words parted from his lips, Aleph heard a collective battle cry within the fort.

"Huh?!" [Aleph]

Looking down, he saw all of Askyros' allies rushing inside.

"It was I who was buying time." [Askyros]
