Two Steps Ahead

The squad took a detour to the gun range and collected a few weapons.

"Get the impulse rounds! As many as you can hold!" [Bryan]

They equipped themselves with non-lethal projectiles that were meant for immobilization.

"Arms check!" [Bryan]

"Check!" [Howard]

"Check!" [Leo]

"Good! Let's move!" [Bryan]

Following Bryan's lead, they returned to their camp. Brawls were still going on, and somehow Adam ended up fighting multiple squads on his own.

"Come and get some!" [Adam]

He may have had his clothing torn to shreds, but his condition was near peak.

("What a monster…") [Leo]

"Do we help him?" [Howard]

"No. Just follow our objective." [Bryan]

Considering all factors, Bryan believed Adam to come out on top.

"First, locate our target." [Bryan]

Acknowledging the plan, they hunted for squad 2.

("They're nowhere to be seen!") [Leo]

("Where could they have gone?") [Howard]

As they moved around, the squad decided on splitting up.

"Use your radio when you find them." [Bryan]

"Understood." [Leo] [Howard]

As soon as they went their separate ways Howard's feet sank into the ground.

"Eh?" [Howard]

Then came a soldier from squad 2.

"You're from the same squad as that behemoth of a guy, aren't you?" [Soldier]

Howard quickly grasped his situation.

("Us splitting up was a trap, huh.") [Howard]

He quickly whipped out a handgun, but it was kicked out of Howard's hand before he could even aim.

"Too slow. You can wait here until the event is over." [Soldier]

Howard grinned.

"You can't think that's the only thing I had on me." [Howard]

"...What?" [Soldier]

Howard reached for his radio, in which the soldier responded by stomping it as Howard's hand touched it.

"Ack!" [Howard]

The radio was crushed under the soldier's heel. Though it was unfavorable for Howard, he continued to smile.

"Gotcha." [Howard]

He grabbed the soldier's leg and punched the calf.

"Agh!" [Soldier]

A sharp pain shot up his leg as Howard continued to strike several other points. By the end of it, the soldier fainted from shock.

"Don't underestimate my level 6 Combat Rating." [Howard]

Though his ability was able to grasp his opponent's weakness', it wasn't going to help him get out of the muddy pit he was in.

"...Damn." [Howard]

On the other side…

"Woah! Two against one?!" [Leo]

Leo was fending off two soldiers, one with the ability to manipulate lightning and the other capable of creating some sort of transparent veil.

"Stay still!" [Lightning Soldier]

"I'll pass!" [Leo]

He ducked under a punch and fired two impulse rounds straight into the soldier's chest.

"Hah! It's too easy!" [Leo]

Is what he said until he realized the soldier was still standing.

"Uh… How?" [Leo]

The soldier brushed off the spot he was shot.

"Impulse rounds are lightning based. They don't have any effect on me, you dolt." [Lightning Soldier]

"Oh." [Leo]

He then fired two rounds at the veiled soldier. Unexpectedly, they also came out unscathed.

"Explain that." [Leo]

"My ability acts as an armor and insulator. Projectiles in general don't really work on me." [Veiled Soldier]

"Oh. Oh shit." [Leo]

Looking down at his gun, he holstered it.

"Huh. That puts things into perspective. At least I've got this thing." [Leo]

Grabbing his radio, Leo spoke into it.

"Guys! I found some squad 2 members!" [Leo]

There was no reply.

"Um… Just wait a sec guys." [Leo]

He attempted the radio a few more times.

"Hm. I wonder why it isn't working?" [Leo]

"...I fried it a few minutes ago." [Lightning Soldier]

Leo made a sour expression.

"You couldn't have told me that earlier?" [Leo]

The soldier shrugged.

"Okay, thanks for telling me anyway." [Leo]

He then chuckled at his situation.

"Ohoho… I'm so fucked." [Leo]
