Goblin Hunter

Calamity is all he could think of.

In the distance a giant collective made of storms, lava, and monsters approached Leon, he started to run in the opposite direction. He kept running as fast he could, but for some reason, he couldn't dash. The huge collective's speed kept increasing and increasing. It was only a matter of time until Leon was caught.

As the first sign of the storm was only Leon's back with a whip of wind, he saw in the distance twelve people the size of skyscrapers running towards Leon.

Their eyes were full of determination and rage. The armor they were wearing glimmered even without the sun, which had been blocked by the storm clouds covering the sky like a blanket. Various weapons in hands: Sword, spear, shield, potions.

The ones without weapons still kept running and as they were within a football field's distance. They started summoning various magics and elements. One of the ladies started to use a strange form of magic and a strange aura started to emit from her hands.

A man carrying a hammer draped on his back put his palms and out a torrent of fire spewed as if a dragon had been angered.

The biggest and oldest-looking man started to summon lightning himself, which he directed into the storm. This looked ironic to Leon, however, the lightning did evaporate a huge crowd of monsters surging along with the storm and lava.

Leon knew there was no point in running, as he had nowhere to run to, in the middle of these two forces clashing.

He accepted his fate and hoped to die a painless death, as he started sweating profusely.

A surge of lava erupted just behind him and as this happened a similar surge of water erupted as the man with the trident slammed his weapon into the ground.

Pinned between the wave of lava and the other wave of water, Leon braced for worse.

Just as both waves reached him, Leon woke up with his eyes fluttering open.

He looked around and saw the vague familiarity of the room he rented yesterday. As he got up from the bed, Leon noticed the damp bed sheets from all the beads of sweat he had produced over the night.

Leon went to the bathroom and cleaned himself of the sweat.

'Was that really a dream? But it felt so real...."

Trying to ignore his weird hallucination or dream, Leon decided to use the meals he paid for and went down to the restaurant part of the inn.

By the time he sat down to a table, barely anyone was left in the once-packed inn. Leon looked outside to find the sun already shining well over the city and realized he overslept.

'Damn my dream. If I could've woken up earlier, I may have been able to have more time to hunt, at this rate I might not even be able to afford anything but a room and food.'

A huge and muscular Lady wearing an apron full of stains of all colors walked up to Leon.

"Greeting valued customer, I will be your cook and waitress, what would you like from the kitchen today? Since it is a bit late, the options are limited, however, my quality of food is still top-notch. What we have left: Set 1 - a loaf of bread, a bowl of our famous potato stew, and an Adventurer sandwich. Set 2- three eggs cooked to your choosing, some famous Verin wild boar meat strips, and some fruit. The drinks for both sets can be anything from our wine or beer collection.

Although it was quite normal in this world for young people to drink and even more common for people to drink in the morning, Leon's parents had always taught him to wait till his 16th birthday to drink and never drink unless the sun has set with, the moon watching over him.

So Leon pondered his options and finally came to a conclusion.

"I will take the first set and just water is fine."

The chef looked surprised as someone as young and naive looking as Leon didn't decide to drink. She walked off back into the kitchen and the sounds of flame and cutting emitted from the kitchen in the back.

Only a handful of minutes later, she came back out with a huge steaming bowl of soup and a big loaf of bread with butter cut and slapped onto the side of the soup for the bread. She set the food in front of Leon and returned back to the kitchen.

Leon's mouth watered as he got ready to devour the meal.

At first, Leon ate the bread and soup together by having the bread absorb the soup, however, Leon eventually came around to the realization that the bread tasted better with the butter, despite the flavor of the delicious potato stew.

He grabbed a knife and spread a mini slab of butter across a chunk of bread and ate it with a happy grin to the point he asked for extra loaves.

As soon as his meal came to an end, Leon made his way back into the forest, passing through the three gates once again. Leon entered the forest and stealthed himself, getting ready for a full day of hard work to raise his power and levels.

While Leon was quite confident after the previous day's incident in his ability to face a group of Goblins, he decided that sneaking up on a group posed less of a risk and was more efficient than facing them head-on.

The rest of the day, Leon spent hunting groups of goblins roaming the forest. He never ran into any direct trouble or anomalies, except one time almost leading a huge group of goblins into a group of mid-tier E-ranked Adventurers.

As the sun was starting to cross the horizon and the darkness started to creep in, Leon had already hunted dozens of goblins and both his dagger and sword had already been covered in the blood of his enemies.

To save himself the trip of going back to the inn, Leon had already packed the belonging he had in his room into a small statue.

Leon hid the satchel under a patch of grass near a tree he had marked as he hunted through the day.

As the night approached, Leon dug the satchel up and climbed himself on the tall branch of a tree. He took out some of the bread he had saved from the Inn and decided to rest in the forest so he could continue his grind.

After a week of the same routine of killing groups of goblins over and over again, then resting and living off his bread. Leon decided to finally go back home, satisfied with the cores he collected and the progress he made.

Leon had leveled up faster than he had expected, to the point where the low-strength goblins were no longer very efficient in leveling due to the gap in strength.

While Leon was sad to learn he hadn't gained any new skills, the skills he already had when he started his grind had leveled up. Everything besides Dash, which he had used much more compared to any other skill in his week thus leveling to 3, and Monster Language, which was still level 1 since the goblins he faced were already dead by the time they could face him, had increased to level 2. Although his level was only 13, his stats were already well beyond his level thanks to his odd blessing.

As Leon recovered his HP and Mana, the sun had risen to its apex, while Leon had napped in his favorite spot on a branch of a tree. He dropped down and started his way back to Verin with an empty full supply and a hefty satchel full of monster cores. As he entered a clearing, Leon saw a group of 7 Adventurer's currently sat relaxing in the middle of the open space, with one of them wearing an official Adventurer iron necklace that read 'D' who seemed to be the leader. Leon had never owned one because there was no reason to want to let passerby or enemies know of his shabby F Tier Rank, which is why only high-ranked adventurers wore one. However Leon was a bit surprised, while D Tier adventurers were miles stronger than F Tier's, they were still considered the average, which is why many do not carry one.

Leon walked up to the group, who was chatting with a serious face.

"Sorry to bother you guys, but I am just curious about something. What's a group of well-equipped D Tier Adventurers like yourselves doing out here in this beginner's forest?"
