Chapter Ten

Reina was home the next week, and waited for Jess to come. She had bought a cup of coffee, for both herself and Jess. But Jess didn't show. Reina was a bit saddened by this, but her phone began to rang. Noticing that it was Jess, she picked up the phone.

     "Um... Hey. It's me, Jess."

"I know. I have you added as a contact."

Jess put her hand to her chest, holding back a really big cry. "Um... I had to do something with Jeff... So I can't come."

Reina looked down at her feet. "I guess I'll see you next week then."

     Jess sniffled. "I love you."

     "..."

"You don't have to say anything."

Reina straightened herself, and said, "You know you're my best friend, right Jess?"

Jess, emotionally unstable, was a dam waiting to explode. "I... Really?"

Reina smiled. "I'll see you next week. We can suffer till then, and everything will be back to normal."

Jess smiled, and shed a tear. "I'll see you later."

Reina let Jess hang up. Then, she put down her phone. As her phone touched the table, a knock sounded at the door.

"...That can't be Jess..." Jess had sounded so sincere, she couldn't possibly be there... Or could she?

Reina went to the door and answered it, opening it slowly. "Yes?"

As soon as she saw him, her heart sank. There was only one person who had any control over her life, and that was the previous greatest magician. Until further notice, Reina had to do everything that she was told by him. Of course, the guy was a giant dick on a foot-long bun.

"I've come to inspect your recent successes and such, I won't be long. How has your day been?"

     Reina shrugged. "Alright, I guess."

"You guess?" he said, one eyebrow raised.

He was Roy McRay, the greatest hyper-strength user to ever grace the face of the world. Reina had beaten him using her magic, which allowed her to increase the air-pressure around something, preventing movement, or even crushing a normal body-type.

"Eh. My friend challenges me to a match every week, and she didn't make it this time."

Roy nodded. "Very good. Is it good practice?"

Reina shrugged. "I mean, she claims that she goes easy on me every time, but she has yet to actually win."

Roy nodded once more. "Have you talked to Jeff recently? He's been doing quite a few jobs that might be great for you to go on, for experience."

Sounded like a pain in the ass. "I've been thinking about it, actually. Maybe I should go on some..."

"You're in love, aren't you?" Roy asked, his question hitting Reina like a bunny tied to a railroad track.

     "W-what? No, I-"

"Well, I'm not allowing you to go on dates or anything. Being in love makes you susceptible to giving away confidential info about your training and such, so no having boyfriends."

Reina nodded. Roy turned away and looked at her living space, the throne-room, specifically. It was very well-kempt, and Roy nodded approval.

"Very nice. I was expecting a bit less of a sixteen-year-old, but you surprised me."

     Reina nodded. "Of course."

As Roy left, Reina couldn't stop thinking about what he had said. No dating. Hmm... For some reason, Reina felt a bit sad.
