You wake up in a dark alleyway with no memory how you got there. As you stand up and brush your clothes off, you feel that there's a weight on you. Before you can investigate the weight you feel, Your phone rings. Answering the phone the man on the other line tells you that he's placed a bomb on you. You look under your jacket and see what seems to be c4 strapped to your chest. He instructs you to go to the bank and transfer all of your power stones to the account number he gives you. Chop chop the man doesn't have all day to wait. Oh, and enjoy the chapter!)
The next morning, I slept in and enjoyed the comfort of my bed. When I finally got up and left the room, Rem was patiently waiting outside my door.
"Morning, Rem." I mutter tiredly.
"Good morning, Master. Your breakfast has been prepared in the dining hall." She says.
"Thanks. Have our guests eaten yet?" I ask.
"No, they only awoke moments before you. Both of them are in the dining hall awaiting your arrival." She says.
"Oh? Let's not keep them waiting then." Rem escorts me to the dining hall, and I'm met with a blushing couple. They are sitting directly next to each other, but they won't even look in each other's direction. "Hahaha, did our resident couple have a good night's sleep?" I laugh and take a seat at the head of the table. Rem leaves towards the kitchen, presumably to get our breakfast. Their faces are getting redder and redder by the second. Seeing a big muscular lion man blush is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
"Your Highness, I'd like to thank you for saving me." The lion-man talks formally and stands from his seat to bow to me.
"Don't worry about it. I was going to free the slaves there anyway." I wave my hand dismissively.
"Either way, thank you." He says.
"No problem. Why don't you introduce yourself?" I ask as I still don't know his name.
"My apologies, Your Highness. My name is Leo Bradfield, I'm an adventurer from the Bestia Kingdom." He introduces himself.
"It's nice to meet you, Leo. While we wait for our food, why don't you tell me a little about yourself?" I ask.
"I'm the third son of a noble family, and as such, I would never inherit anything, so I left my family to become an adventurer." He explains.
"It's good that you left. Matters of succession can be very bloody depending on the family. Mine lead our country into a civil war, as you probably already know." I say and he nods with a sad expression on his face. I guess our families are similar. Rem brings out our food, and the rest of our breakfast is a quiet affair. After eating our fill, I had to deal with the mess from last night.
"I want to speak to the slaves before they leave, so would you like to join me?" I ask Leo and Lily.
"Yes, If you wouldn't mind." Lily answers and Leo simply nods.
"Of course not. Come along." I say and we make our way out of the manor. A carriage awaits us and takes us to a nice inn. Rem tags along as well, as she's my personal maid. The ex-slaves were given rooms here for the night. It's the least I could do, as they aren't from Sena, so they have nowhere to go. Entering the Inn, the owners saw me and kneeled instantly.
"It's an honor to have yah in our inn, Your Majesty!" A gruff looking man said.
"It's Your Highness, you idiot! Your Majesty is used for the King and Queen." His wife next to him berates him and slaps him on the head.
"Haha, thank you for allowing us to use your inn, and don't worry about the mix-up. You can stand at ease, this is your inn, after all." I laugh and they stand.
"Hehe, your a good kid, Your Highness" the gruff man says only to be slapped in the head again by his angry wife.
"Don't test the princes' kindness with your stupidity!" She admonishes him again. She then turns to me with a motherly smile. "Your Highness, would you like something to eat? We serve food here as well." She offers. God, this woman's personality just turned 180 degrees. I feel bad for her husband.
"Some tea would be nice." I say and she zooms off towards the kitchen.
"Hehe, she's a fiery one ain't she?" He laughs while watching his wife's retreating back. "Those guests you got staying here are eaten in the other room. Yah want me to take yah to em?" He asks.
"Yes. I need to speak to them." I say and he shows us to the inns dining hall. As I enter the hall, I can hear the chatter of everyone sitting around. There's more than the thirty that were freed from the auction, so the guards must have found more during the cleansing. When they notice my arrival, the chatter dies down to complete silence.
"Your Highness." Someone says and one by one they all kneel on the ground.
"I hope you've all had a good night's rest?" I ask. They all seem too nervous to answer except one.
"It was alright, for an inn that is. I miss my bed though." The woman from the auction that was chained and drugged similar to Leo says. She didn't kneel, but she did give me a quick bow. At first, I thought she was a human, but now that I can see her up close, her ears are pointed. An elf, huh. That's pretty rare. They almost never leave the Great Jura forest, so where did they capture her? She has blonde hair, green eyes, and looks to be in her early twenties.
"Well, you all can get back to your beds soon enough. Before that, I would like to make each of you an offer." I say and take a seat at one of the open tables. The Matron returns with a tray in her hands and places it on my table. "Ah, my tea. Thank you." I say and before I can once again take her job from her, Rem swiftly moves the tray out of my reach. She pours me a cup with sugar and milk and places it in front of me. I could swear I saw a smug smile on her face.
"What's this offer of yours?" The elven woman asks.
"A job offer. You all have certain skills that I can make use of, so if you're interested, I'm hiring." I offer.
"What if we don't have any skills?" A woman asks. She was most likely enslaved for her looks, and not for her skills.
"I just so happen to need staff for my manor, so if you have no skills I would take you in as a maid or a butler." I explain. The room descends into silence as everyone contemplates my offer.
"We could also just leave if we don't accept, correct?" The elven woman speaks up.
"Yes, you may have been slaves, but you're free now. This is only a job offer, and if you're not interested, that's fine." I reiterate. That got the ball rolling, as people started declining left and right. "Those of you that decline can go outside, and speak to my Guard Captain. He will help you return to your homes and families." The room slowly emptied and only a handful of people remained. The elven woman, dwarven blacksmith, and eight women stayed behind.
"You would think more people would jump at the chance to work for the future king of the Fortis Kingdom." I mutter under my breath, but the elven woman seemed to have heard me.
"Haha, don't be so sullen, Your Highness. It's unbecoming." She laughs. *sigh* Maybe I shouldn't hire her. At least I got the blacksmith.
