My mother breaks into your homes late at night. She weaves through your windows and slides through your halls. As she creeps through your home, she appears at your piggie bank. She smashes it into a million pieces and takes all of your spirit stones. Enjoy the chapter.)
"Decaying... Decaying... Decaying... DECAYING!??" Both of the elderly women scream in unison with livid expressions on their faces.
"Uhh Ohh. Even I wouldn't say that to both of them at the same time. Rest In Peace doggo. I'm sure you were a good pup." I say and bow my head to pay respects to the dead. The people next to me once again looked at me funny.
"The rest of you deal with the wolf pack." Grandma tells the other elders. "Delilah and I will handle the mutt." She glares at the lightning wolf alongside her longtime rival.
The elders don't question their orders and get to work. The fighters engage the wolves and the mages rain magic on them from behind the fighters. When the pack leader saw that his wolves started getting slaughtered again, he gave a deep growl and jumps forward. Before he could get anywhere near his pack to protect them, a giant hammer of fire hit him and sent him flying further away from his pack.
"Aww, did that burn the poor puppy? Let me soothe it for you." Delilah says and a sea of spears made of water clouded the sky. The wolf looked up at its impending doom with determination. It produced more lightning that crisscrossed through its fur and readied itself to dodge for its life. "Haha, let's see how long you can stay alive for. Ready... 3 2 1 go." Delilah says and waves her hand.
It starts raining, literally. The spears of water come falling down, and every single one is aimed at the giant lightning wolf. Before anything can hit it, the pack leader dashes from place to place dodging every oncoming projectile. The ground becomes wet and soft with water. This doesn't help the wolf at all, as the muddy ground interrupts its movement. Slipping, sliding, and dashing the wolf is grazed by a spear on its hind leg, but still manages to keep dodging, and doesn't slow down for a single second.
"It seems this is to easy for you. Allow me to up the difficulty." Grandmother says and calls forth a sea of fire spears matching her rivals. "Good luck, you mangy mutt!"
The sky is filled with a mix of water and fire, and the close proximity to the fire caused the water to boil. Spears of fire and boiling water came crashing down on the wolf. Small cuts start to appear on the wolf, as spear after spear graze its skin. The sky becomes foggy with steam from the boiling water spears.
"IM GOING TO SLAUGHTER YOU WEAK HUMANS!" The wolf screams as it dashes around the wet ground.
"You better keep moving, mutt. We wouldn't want your precious fur to be ruined more than it already has." Delilah says casually while cleaning her nails.
"Huh? The stupid thing is still breathing?" Grandmother comments as she files her nails and blows in them.
Haha, taunting your enemy is my favorite part of a battle. Neither granny nor Delilah is even paying attention to the wolf's plights anymore. The wolf is starting to slow, as the small cuts are adding up and he's losing a good amount of blood. The sea of spears in nowhere near being depleted, so the wolf has his work cut out for him.
POV Cavalry
The cavalry has almost made it to the exit of the pass. They've lost a good chunk of the backline, but that number pales in comparison to the kill count of the beasts following them. The thin mountain pass has a small stream of blood flowing through it from the many beasts that have died. The smell of iron permeates the air and pushes the beasts further and further into their frenzied state. Some unlucky soldier's horses slipped on the blood-soaked ground. These soldiers were eaten alive, screaming in agony and terror until their dying breath.
As the cavalry spotted the exit in front of them, their hopes rose and they pushed forward. They all knew that everything would be alright as long as they made it out of the pass. The soldiers prodded their steeds forward with renewed vigor. Hope is what pushed them forward. Hope that they would make it out alive and see their family's and loved ones again. They knew that the job as bait they were given was risky, but when they are given orders they have to follow them.
At the very end of the pass are the opened gates of a fort. The fort itself was built here in case of invasion, and the mountain pass acts as a good defensive position. If they can make it into the gates in time they're home free. Soldiers line the walls of the fort awaiting the arrival of the cavalry. They all have their bows and magic ready for when the flood of beasts are in range.
POV Floyd
We made it to the first town on our long list of syndicate infested settlements. When we arrived in seeing distance of the town walls, the guards were immediately wary of our presence. A bell was rung, and the gates were closed and locked tightly in place. The town guard appeared on the wall with weapons out and bows drawn. I sent a lone messenger to the gates with the decree of the prince. The solitary soldier rode to the gate, and the town guard trained their bows on him.
When he got to the gate, he took out the decree of our Lord and read it out loud to the town guard. He then showed the seal of the prince on the decree and ordered the gates to be opened. After who I believe to be the town guard captain said something to my soldier, he started riding back to us with an annoyed look on his face.
"Sir, they said that they need to speak to the town mayor before opening the gates. The captain said to wait a moment and he'll be as quick as possible." The soldier said upon his return.
"That's odd, but they could just be very thorough when it comes to situations like this." I reply and wait patiently.
After about ten minutes, some town guards on horseback exited the gates. They seemed to be escorting a middle-aged man. He was dressed in fine garbs, so he's probably the town mayor. They approached us with caution and the mayor looked afraid of our mere presence.
"I apologize for the wait, but would you let me see the decree of his highness. I just need to be sure that you're all not some well-dressed bandits." The mayor said as he rode to a stop in front of us. He didn't know just how spot on his assumption was though.
"Sure." I hand him the decree. "His highness dispatched us to deal with some criminals in his territory." When I said that the mayor seemed to flinch slightly. Hmm, is he involved with the syndicate? I'll have to check the files Souei has given us to make sure, but for now, it's best to get into the town without any resistance. If we were to siege the town, it would prolong our mission and the Lord wanted this done swiftly.
"Well, everything seems in order, so please follow us into the city." The lord says with a complicated look on his face.
"Yes, please lead the way."
